    Having problems playing Civ V. Tried both DirectX 9 and 11 and both crash while playing during first 10 minutes of gameplay.

    my first & last game of Civ 5 was just before the 1.0.0.20 patch
    since then impossible for me to succesfully load a game, always crash on loading map
    latest ATI driver / VCRedist 10.3 / reinstalled DX

    skipping intro & windowed mode don't help

    also can't seem to get an email to 2ksupport i get a permanent fatal error to the canadian email

    Success! I was having the same problem with being unable to play Civ V because it would crash to desktop after partially playing the intro video. I flashed the motherboard bios, updated the video card drivers to the current ATI 10.10(e) hotfix, reinstalled direct x as per suggestions on this forum, and reinstalled C++redist.     Still the game wouldn't start. The last thing I did was to delete the game from Steam and re load it. It now works. I've played it for over an hour and made several saves without incident.

    Small bug with mods

    Mods don't work (can download but all not visible in "Browse Mods" menu). Windows username - non-English (Cyrillics).
    If change to user account with name on english - all ok.

    HOWTO fix:
    In Civ5ModsDatabase.db
    TABLE ScannedFiles
    Field "Path" MUST contain text in Utf-8.
    BUT now - for me (Russia) - in cp1251.

    I agree as well. Since I got this game I have had nothing but endless problems. Form modding to to normal gaming. Now the problem I have is, I have no Mongol or Babylonian civilisations. I even put the money up for the second mod hoping to get another civ into the game and now I can't play with either. All my games started after the latest update 1.0621 are not working because there was a Mongolian civ in each of them! WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON????????????

    I'm even spending extra money and now I'm getting a weaker product! SORT THIS OUT! WE ARE ALL PAYING GOOD MONEY FOR WHAT HAS SO FAR BEEN AN ABSOLUTE ARCHAIC EXECUTION OF PROGRAMMING IN MY OPINION!!!!!!!!!!!!:mad

    I did exactly that and still the game crashes. I even reinstalled Steam but nothing works. I was up until 4 a.m. last night trying to get my game to play correctly and it still crashes after first 5-10 minutes of gameplay.

    I bought Civ 5 first day it came out and I'm still unable to play it.

    I am sure others have had this issue, but here it goes.

    Sometimes when I play a game it runs very slowly and other times it runs very smoothly and quickly.

    This is independent of map size, map type, number of units on the screen, area explored, and can happen when first starting a game. In some cases this can be over come by deleting old save files. In fact, for a while I thought it was a work around until today where it doesn't seem to have the same effect in improving game performance. Hopefully restarting my computer might work.

    As I stated, I am sure others have had this strange issue.

    Do Not Force Users To Waste Their Time For Unnecessary Clicks

    Users can bring up the in-game menu pressing ESC while playing a game. I think this menu needs some improvements.

    1. When invoked from MOD mode, there should be "Exit to MOD Menu" entry instead of "Exit to Main Menu". Without this entry, we have to go to Main Menu, MOD menu, EULA Screen, and then finally MOD Menu. There are three unnecessary clicks which take quite long time due to slow response of the game. The coding should be extremely simple.

    2. "Regenerate Map" entry needs to be added to replace the long click sequence of '"Exit to Main Menu", "Single Player", "Play Now" or "Set Up Game". The coding should be quite simple. Also make user selected advanced option remembered as many users have requested.

    Let me repeat the title. Please let us avoid wasting our precious time merely for unnecessary and meaningless clicks.

    Too Little Luxury Resources in Maps by World Builder?

    Not sure if this is a bug. I generated a pangaea map with standard size and resources with World Builder. Afterward, I cleared all the resources and applied "Scatter Resources" button. Then, I counted how many luxury resources are available in the entire map just to find 10 or so, 1.25 for each civ. The number of bonus and strategic resources looked normal though I didn't count them. I tried to generate a few more and found the same results. I even tried Abundant Resource option but the result was still very sparse luxury resources.

    bug with chichen izta/reformation

    Dont know if this has been posted but the 5 turn GA you get from reformation + chichen izta should theoretically give you a 7 turn GA, but it repeatedly gives a 4 turn. Just a heads up.

    Minor annoyance:

    When saving a game, once you've clicked save, the item highlighted on the screen under it after it disappears is "Exit to Window", and it's all too easy to click it.

    Recommend you rearrange those menu items so that "Return to Game" is the highlighted choice. Put "Exit to Windows" at the bottom.

    Mod browser mostly broken

    Mod browser is almost completely broken for uploading. I've now confirmed that a very large amount of modders, possibly most, cannot upload mods as of about 11/26.

    Auto Save Wrong

    Autosave uses the wrong year in the save name. It will use 660AD but when you load the game you actually are in year 661AD or whatever the next turn would be. IF its saving on the end of turn 660 and thats why it does this then the save game name should be the next turn. Minor gripe but annoying none the less when you make a mistake and want to reload and you just end up in the same turn you just loaded from.

    All, I need some advice. I am looking at buying a new laptop, and I want to make sure that it can run Civ 5. Right now it looks like my choices for a graphics card are the 512 (MB) NVIDIA 310M GeForce on a machine with a Core i5 Processor or the Integrated Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator on a macine with the Core i3 Processor. Any recommendations?

    okay, so i installed civ v.
    the intro vid plays fine.
    afterward, the main menu comes up
    problem starts here...
    there was sound during intro vid, but there is no sound in main menu.
    its not frozen because the mouse cursor moves around just fine, and the buttons (like single player) light up.
    However, if i try to click, it does not work... none of the buttons seem to work.
    when i do alt + F4, the screen verifying if i want to end the game comes up, and i can click on yes or no on that one...
    I searched everywhere to find the solution for this problem, but no luck...

    any fixes? ive already checked the system reqs and my spec is okay.

    I still cannot cancel any deals I make with AI and I'm on version 1.0.0.621. If someone can tell me how to cancel please do but this game grows more and more disappointing. Diplomacy should be a very interactive part of the game, but in civ V diplomacy is a joke. In civ 4 and 3 there are alot more options and there diplomatic screen where FAR more helpful. I feel lost on the diplomatic screens, i cant tell if a nation likes me or not. I cant really see our current deals i have with the AI. This all just needs a quick fix of interface. That's my opinion anyway. Please help on original problem.

    DirectX 9 Problems?

    I'm having an issue that is similar to others in this thread and other places, but so far none of the fixes recommended for them are working for me.

    Last night I installed some more RAM in my computer for the sole purpose of playing Civ V on it. Before this it did not meet the minimum requirements for RAM. The RAM is working perfectly, and is definitely not the issue.

    Shortly after that I installed Civ V. Then I tried to play it. This is where the problem comes in.

    Each and every time I hit play, Steam tells me it is launching the game, then a window opens. The window is completely black and the description says "Sid Meier's Civilization V (DX9)". This window only appears for about half a second (literally, so briefly I had to try this several times to get the window text written down correctly) and then it's gone. The game does not start.

    One of the first things I tried was to go into Steam and use the "Verify Integrity of Game Cache" option. It found one file that needed fixing, fixed it, and now comes up clean. 100% verified. But the problem remains.

    I searched for other solutions to this problem, without success. From what I understand, the game can only be played in DirectX 9 on my computer because it runs Windows XP, and DirectX 10 or 11 are both unsupported. (Or at least, that is what I'm told.)

    Computer Specs:
    Windows XP SP3
    Dell Dimension E510 <-- That links directly to the online service manual, the rest of the specs can be found in the "Specifications" section in far more detail than I can provide.
    3 Gigs of RAM (This is the only modified part of the specs on this computer.)

    If it matters, my copy is the Civ V Special Edition from Amazon. It has not been previously used.

    I would greatly appreciate any help. (I will be away from home over the weekend, so no rush.)

    Autosave for the Previous Turn

    I suggest to add an entry to autosave files for the immediately previous turn for two purposes:

    a. Moderators normally ask for the save file for a bug reporting and there should be an easy way to do this.
    b. Many gamers waste their time repeating many turns from some fixed autosaved turn in order to change just one mistake. TIME IS GOLD!

    I haven't sifted through all 17 pages of bug reports, so forgive me if these issues have already been brought up. There are two issues I've noticed since playing Civ 5 on my mac that are strictly gameplay-related; while the game runs quite badly on my band-new iMac, the game has only crashed once so far.

    1. The tool you have to manage your civilian workforce seems broken. The little green dots that represent workforce allocations will always reduce in number if I leave the concentration on default, and then upon switching to another concentration (most often food) suddenly four or five more green dots become available. Shouldn't the number of green dots be fixed based upon my population? Is this flux based on civilian happiness? If so, why does it change so radically within a single turn, where happiness has not gone up or down? Also, sometimes the computer changes workforce allocations arbitrarily from one turn to another, so that I have to check on each city to ensure that the production schedule of whatever I'm building hasn't changed because of this.

    2. The combat bonuses are often-times incorrect. I was prompted to register and post on this forum because I just lost a ~10 hour game based on the game giving the invading army a 50% combat bonus for fighting on friendly territory, when they were in fact on my territory. At least that explains why my bombers and jet fighters have been getting obliterated by cavalry.


    Edit: Here are some more bugs I've noticed.
    1. Every time I capture an enemy settler it turns into a worker.
    2. The scout upgrade which allows it to heal one point per turn when outside enemy territory never works.
    3. I've encountered enemy spearmen within the first 3-4 turns of the game which shouldn't be possible on the 'Prince' difficulty.

    I really want to play this game, but every time I do some glaring game-play bug ruins the experience for me. Far from what I expected when I shelled out 50 bucks. Now 2k wants more money for maps for a broken game. : /

    Question Unit bugs

    The nuclear submarine can get shot down by a cruise missiles from the shore. I suppose it was not the intention that submerged vessels could become targets for surface-to-surface missiles.

    The stealth bombers can be based and operate from aircraft carriers. The help file says they cannot.

    XP is not accumulated for stealth bombers and they don't get upgrades - is that intended?

    I hope you haven't purchased it yet. I can say with 100% certainty you do NOT want an Intel integrated video chip-set. Those are terrible, and though they're not as bad as they were a few years ago - there is no comparison between that and an NVidia or ATI based laptop video chip-set. If you plan on doing any gaming outside of Civ V, the Intel video will cause you a lot of grief. Don't be fooled by marketing or it's wide acceptance. Intel video chip-sets are cheap and most laptops are sold with it. Market penetration does not equal good.

    I just bought Civ V for my mac. I like the game very much but every time when I'm playing the single player and the diplomacy screens comes up then the game freezes and I have to reset my mac! Somebody has a solution for this? It makes the game unplayable. I can play all tutorials fine without any problem.

    I'll try and help thoug I don't have the MAC version.. Aspyr has mentioned there's a known compatability bug with Civ V, Mac, and video playback. Especially the intro movie. So it could be tied to this as the diplomacy screens have animated video not unlike the intro. The regular bla bla bla is to make sure you really do have the latest video card drivers, and also make sure you MAC video'audio codecs are up-to-date along with quicktime.     1)Mongolian scenario, "prince": when destroy 4 civilizations no recorded in the Hall of Fame! (only time victory, no scenario victory) Why? Have you the same?
    2)Steam achievements do not work for mongolian schenario!
    3)Also years in mongolian scenario change very fast. Historical start 1206 but after 100 turns arrive to 2000!
    The scenario must start 1209(Gengis) stop 1294(Koublai death) or 1300 with 100 turns.

    I did not buy a "subscription" I bought a DVD in a fancy case from a retail store. It does not work for my graphics display (see DX-11 thread). The Steam interface is awful, obtrusive, and obviously not necessary to run a game like this (see Civ-4). Steam sux (counter intuitive I know). The one benefit to me of the Steam interface was suppose to be the “download fixes automatically”, anybody seen one? Just BS.

    I want my money back. How do I get a refund?

    If you read what you buy then you would have known that it uses steam.
    With that reason they can deny your refund. So it's up to them if they want to be "nice".

    You did something wrong cause it worked with the disc here. It's somewhere on the forums what you did wrong. I can't remember what it was.

    Found what i am assuming is a bug when dealing with "national wonders". As we all know, if you drop a new city while a national wonder is being built, you lose the production of that wonder. Though, lame, it seems to be purposeful. When you make a puppet city, your national wonder seems to be fine. When you take full control of that city, you then lose production capability of that wonder. This also seems purposeful. However, if you raise a city you just conquered, the city has you take control for those few turns, thus killing the production of your national wonder. I do not believe this was purposeful, since you are very much NOT taking control of that city's production and management. So basically, if you can produce a national wonder with puppet cities, you certainly can produce that wonder while burning an enemy city to the ground. Hence, a bug. Thank you for your time.

    It would probably make more sense in general (to my messed up mind at any rate) if a razing city was a puppet rather than annexed for a few turns. Would also not increase the culture cost of social policy threshold. An amount of unhappiness could still be added if that is a desired effect.

    The new patch added several new bugs that really suck.
    1) Connecting a road from your capital to a city state as requested by the city state does not complete the quest.
    2) Chopping forests does not give the bonus hammers as expected. A friend told me about this one.
    3) The Wat now has 2 specialist slots, but the university still only has 1. Since this UB already had lower maintenance and added culture over the university, both should have the same number of specialist slots.

    Loaded an MP game last night after downloading the new December patch. Game was already in 300 BC (on marathon length, Large map). There was a glitch where the game allowed players to build The Great Library, Great Lighthouse, and Oracle, despite the fact that all those wonders had already been built. Don't know if this glitch also occurs in single player or in new games started post-patch.
