I just played my first game w/ the new patch, and I discovered several bugs, most of which are graphical.

It seems that defensive pacts are not actually canceled when one player goes to war, however you can reform them. This leads to possessing two simultaneous d. pacts w/ the same person.

The terrain on the main display is not correct; it displays marshes and grasslands and whatnot as mountains. They display correctly in the strategic view.

It displays tile yields incorrectly, such as over desert that don't have any yields at all.

On some terrain, no yield icons at all are displayed (see top right).

It would occasionally show two different sets of icons on the same tile.

Despite mutual denunciation and being friends with his enemies, Alex is still friendly with me.

I found two more bugs while I was in the later stages of my game. No pics this time, but they're not graphical bugs, so...

The first was that whenever I bombed a unit or city with any air unit, it took one to three damage. The guy I was fighting only had a mix of infantry, rifles, and xbows, and I didn't see any planes or anti-air. I'm not sure if this is a game bug or not, but it sure sounds like one to me.

The second was that one of his cities managed to bombard one of my nuclear submarines out of existence, even though he had no subs of his own or destroyers in the area. I spent the three turns that he was bombarding me hunting for a sub and couldn't find anything, so I assumed there were none.

I can't install the game (and it is on the DVD Bay).
I get stuck while in the screen appears "Steam - updating - 26% complete".

I have my DxDag file available if someone thinks it can help.

Luxury trade bug 1.141 no mods

I wanted open borders with Bismark but he is at "Guarded" with me and will not offer a good deal. I have tons of gold and some extra resources so I don't care and I offer him a crazy deal.

    His Open Borders
    for
    My OB
    1500gold
    Silver (I have 2)
    Whales(I have 3)
    Silk (I have 4)

He takes the trade and I start to go about my business when I notice that my happiness is now in the red. Confused I mouse over the happiness only to see that I no longer have silver, whales or silk listed. I go into trade screens with other civs and no longer have the extra copies listed to trade with them. I check the deal history and have no other active deals, only the deal with Bismark is active.

It's as though the trade took ALL of my copies of the luxuries. Or perhaps it is Expired trades that are still using those luxuries copies, leaving me none.

Is it possible that you can trade more then 1 luxury resource to him like the strategic?

These posts are entirely too long to see if these are repeats but:

    1) It is impossible for workers to build routes to city-states, they build up to it and "cancel" at the last tile before the city tile even though it shows a road connecting

    2) Aluminum is ridiculously scarce compared to all other resources and in any combat game the player with it wins

    3) Upgrading past some ranged units makes them non-ranged and you lose a defense against a ship if you are on an island

Refers to game crashing before it even starts (using direct x 9 option). Seems benn, Slybruce and DirtySock7 have had the same problem. No solution/suggestion yet posted.

UPDATE: Did a complete uninstall/re-install. Direct x 9 option still crashes, bit this time the Direct x 10/11 option was available (and recommended). Unfortnately, that crashes out too :-(

This is a real shame. I've been a fan of Civ since the very first days (remember the weird settler icons that looked a bit like googly-eyed Martians and the blocky horsemen). Looks like I'll have to revert to Civ 4 and regard that as the last in a distinguished series that's brought me a huge amount of enjoyment. Unless anyone has any suggestions?

Never mind. All things come to an end. Looks like I'll have a gap in my schedule for some strategy gaming. Can anyone recommend an alternative game with similar complexity of decisions but ease of game-play (but better engineered!)!?

    Tks

I have noticed that with the new patch AI civilisations tend to establish new cities within two or three hex grids of each other. This tends to make their empires quite small and must mean that their gold generation and production are affected. In a couple of games I have lobbed up on a second continent to find that the civs there have as many cities as I do but only occupy a small area, leaving half of the continent unclaimed.

    Several issues:

    1) game crashing. not quite as random as it seems. Later in game with lots of tiles/units, cycling units/cities does cause crashes.
saving also seems to do it sometimes. (if I've been doihg lots of quicksaves, then try a full save, that sometimes clobbers it)

I have been able to work somewhat around this, by swapping to strategic view for cycling cities, but it's a real pain for units.

    2) graphic glitches. I do get graphic overlay glitches. eg: the improvent/worker/unit on tile (or tiles) will seem to get *stuck* on the screen. Scroll around the screen and the unit overlay stays onscreen, like a sticker on the monitor)

    3) city states and roads to capitals. This is really annoying. SOMETIMES IT WORKS! Sometimes not. grrrr.

    4) obscene amounts of on screen messages from I love theking. when over 30 cities ALL want cotton, and they get it...
weill, that has crashed the game. (reload and it works, so memory issue) They show up as OCD text and graphic icons on the side. Scrap the OCD stuff and just plonk the icons in.

    5) ranged units and hills/forest. I can't always shoot at the city from range, but they can at me. er?
Had one last night (city now captured) where my arty was shooting across water. If I had a destroyer in posn
to clearly see the city, the arty could shoot. If not, it couldn't. I'm on the coast tile, and the city is on the other side of the water on the coast tile. In range. If I'm LOSd to the city, then it should be LOS to me.

    6) Diplomacy: yep, it's a mystery with civs all right. Not a real problem so far, as I'll be nice to them early, then just ignore them
and slaughter them later. City states though... it does get tricky when one wants to take out another, if you do, then still others start to get antsy. Had one on the huge map (that I can't play anymore due to crashing) that is now permanently at war with me because I wiped out too many citystates for others. I can't negotiate peace with them. (and one of the wipeouts was at *their* request!) Not sure if this is a good thing, or a bad thing.

The crashes really do look like memory issues, as it ONLY happens once you have lots of tiles showing as well as lots of units/workers. The way the game bounces back and forth *scrolling* from unit to unit or city to city, that's a lot of stuff to be dumping into the vid card etc. 1gig on the card (nv 460) and 8 gig in the system. (win7x64)

I'm not sure, but it also seems like the game is trying to do the sounds for all the units as it scrolls about.
When I swapped to strategic view, swapping all over the map was no problem. So it IS related to drawing all the nifty stuff.

I ust registered and are now reading in on the well known crashes of civ 5. I'm am also really stuck from the beginning of playing the game. Always somewhere in later stages of a game it crashes. On older versions it was really frequent. Now it happens at certain turns, again and again. It is somewhat frustrating when you are in the winning stage of a marathon game, to be unable to any further than a certain turn. Since the game crashed at a specific point, it is very unlikely to be caused by over-clocking, overheating etc.. Because that would cause random crashes, not crashes at a very specific point in a game. So in effect i can't play civ5, because I will never be able to finish a game.

My system should be fast enough for civ 5:
phenom II 955 @3.10Ghz(overclocked buses in combo with memory-dimm capability's better than 3.2ghz)
    8gbyte memory
    ati 5870
    chipset: amd 780
OS: windows 7 64-bit ultimate edition
all drivers updated to latest versions all other games are running fine(actually civ 5 is the first game to crash ever on this system since late 2009)

So i can be added to to the long list of gamers waiting for the a patch which solves the crash-problems.

    Harbor issues
I'm having an issue with harbors not enabling trade routes between the city with a harbor and the capital. I've checked for enemy naval units interfering with the trade route and even made a harbor in the capital as well. Is there something I'm doing wrong here, or is this a bug?

I also have a turn end crash, but on a small map in turn 230. File is here: http://users.telenor.dk/~dsl498455/R...-1600.Civ5Save

It seems to be related to autosaves, since it has shown up in other turns, but always on a turn where the game would autosave. Originally it happened on turn 240. Then I increased the time between autosaves and made it to turn 244 and saved. When I try to load that save, the game crashes. The file linked above was played from turn 228 (the latest one that still worked), and now it crashes without exception when I choose next turn. I've tried it on my desktop PC and netbook, and it behaves identically, so I doubt it's the hardware.

Here's by the way the file that always crashes on load, on both my systems: http://users.telenor.dk/~dsl498455/R...-1670.Civ5Save

Both systems are Win7 64-bit, and the desktop pc has 8 GB ram.

Problem With Meritocracy Bonus With Pre-Patched Saved Games

I am having this problem, after I did the update that changes de Meritocracy Happiness bonus to 0.5, when I loaded a saved game, and went to the next turn, I had lost all the happiness bonus from Meritocracy (when I but my cursor in the happiness icon, it doesn`t show the conectet cities happines). So, just to make it clear, I KNOW i should suffer a loss in happines due the patch, but I have lost ALL the happines from Meritocracy. When I started a new game the problem doesn`t seems to hapen, so this must be an incompatibility with older versions saved games with the new Civ 5 version. I did a google search and there is some other folks complaining about it, but no one knows a solution... so i hope this could be fixed in the next patch....

I can not understand the language its showing

Hey i just bought the game and absolutely cant understand the languagen its showing. It says its in english and some of the words are in english, and all spoken parts are in english but for the most part it looks more or less like broken english. I have no clue how to fix this or what the problem could be. Could it be im not running a powerful enough computer? I have all the recommended requirements. The whole main menu is messed up except when i go to options. The parts you can click on that shows which option you want to view is in english but the rest is all messed up. Could someone please help me? Thanks alot

Just thought I'd put my two cents worth in. Civ 5 is the worst. I've been playing Civ since it started (I played the old board game before that) - each game version built upon the last - BtS - fantastic, all that was needed was some of the functionality of Civ 3, added to the Civ4 updates and perfection was reached. Then - out came Civ4 Colonization, obviously setting the tone for Civ 5 - I groaned and hoped it was only a fad. Yes yes the graphics are very nice - but its a very very poor substitute for good game play, improved AI, really cool and in-depth Tech trees and alike. *** Did you get a load of the latest Patch released ****- even it worked it showed a half-baked product was released - no wonder the head honcho was walked.... Civ 5 - you are the Vista of excellent turn based strategy games - please dump this, and go to Civ6 asap - don't try and compete with 'Halo stratgey type-games' - try to build doing something that 'stands the test of time...' - now where did I hear that

There is a huge problem with road building.

    1.)
    Stupid worker.

The AI does not always build the shortest road when using the route to mode.

    2.)
The worker runs away when using route to mode.

This may be connected with problem #1. Sometimes, i am not sure what triggers it, the worker will run amok and start re-building roads that are already built when you ask him to build using the route to mode. For example you want to connect a new city and you use route to mode, something happens and the worker start running back along the existing road and starts to dig. Wierd.

    3.)
    Connecting a city-state.

Even though there is a road all the way to the city-state you want to connect, according to the game the city isn't connected and the city-state still asks you for a road and you loose the influence. The worker also acts wierd when asked to build to the city-state hex.

Yes I have noticed the same bug when trying to connect city states by road; also later in the game with all roads intact and no one blocking them sometimes the game reports that a route between city A and capital has broken.

But today near the end of the game I have stumbled upon a much bigger issue. I have never had the Civ game crash before, but tonight it happened, and just a few turns apart from victory. I have adopted 5 full social policy paths (tradition, honor, piety, patronage, freedom) and started building the Utopia project in my capital. I am Songhai, allied with Gandhi (and yes, sometimes still the defensive pacts end abruptly for no obvious reason) and Nebuchadnezzar declared war to us. The turn was handed to me and then no matter what I do in this turn after I click "next turn" the game freezes.
Is this another case where you "forgot" us who have the deluxe edition when fixing bugs as there is Babylon in question?
What can I do now? I really want this cultural victory as it would be my first one and many hours have been spent (without any problems regarding the game stability) to get to this point
Is there a new patch on the way?

this was my first solo - ish game I ever bought and probably my last. When you buy an MMO game then feedback from unhappy customers usually affects the way the game develops; future subs obviously depend on a happy customer database. I bought this game partly because the board game was very good but frankly I am very disappointed; I expected the game to improve with patches rather than degenerate and now the game crashing, things not working including roads to allied cities doesn't inspire me to play the game.
I doubt I will ever buy any game with the Sid Meirs/2K label again

    Right on.

I think this whole thread is rather silly, especially it being sticky.

The title of this thread is pretty much what the whole Support forum is about

Rather than post in this huge grab bag of everything, where it might or might not get seen, you'd do better to post in the forum itself and isolate your topic with the thread name.

Many of the issues raised in this thread have been thrashed out many times before. There is a search function. A bit of scanning will often find prior discussion.

Second that motion. A work round to drop Steam for those who have no use for it is an excellent idea. I suppose one could always uninstall Steam. Have to be careful about updates to the Game . . .

    1) Although I max food production and it shows much food being worked on the screen that shows where your workers are working, my city stays at zero extra food being produced.

    2) The science timer on the top left says I have three turns to complete the research, then the tech is discovered on next turn. This has happened numerous times and is definately not research agreements or growth related.

My ModBrowser can't see instaled mods.
I have got Civilization instaled on two computers - one with Vista 32bit and other with W7Pro 64bit. And when I try to play mod on ths with W7, I can't.
    I:
    1. Go to mod browser and download mod (any mod) or i manually download mod from site and put file in MODS folder in My Documents/My Games/etc.
    2. I can see mod in download section
    3. I can click Instal buttoin in browser/unzip file with 7zip
    4. There is a folder with a mod in My Documents
    5. I can't see a mod on Instaled Mods list in Mod Browser in the game (exept DLC mods).

Again - I do not have such a problem on my other computer with 32bit Vista.
My game is in actual version and I usually play in online Steam mode.

Got a similar problem. Downloaded a mod (third party download, did it a number of times before without trouble) placed the file in "mods' folder strated the game and installed the mod. It doesn't show up anywhere (not in the list ingame, not in the mod folder). I found that it seems to install to a temp folder (Documents and Settings\(username)\Local Settings\temp\Civ5ModInstaller) Anyone who has a solution? cheers
*edit* should look a bit better in the future, found a solution.

I have been playing with the iroquis for the last month or so, and have found a bug (or a huge AI fail at least). It is regarding puppet states and their governours (or whoever decides what they build). I have experienced several times that these puppet states have decided to construct the Iroquis unique building Longhouse that gives one extra production in all worked forest tiles. The problem is that they construct them even when there isn't a SINGLE forest tile in the city radius, so that the building has NO EFFECT whatsoever (except of course costing 2 gold in maintenance). I know that the governours are not supposed to be perfect (as you can see by their ridiculous decisions of building barracks when even though they never build units), so that there is some incentive to annex the cities, BUT building buildings that have no effect at all seems too silly - even for stupid governours. I guess the problem is that they can't tell the difference between a longhouse and a forge that it replaces. Please make it so.
(Also if you could stop them from building barracks and the likes it would be nice).

Whoa, Q6600 at 3.6GHz. That's impressive! Can't get mine much past 3.2GHz with the standard cooler. Usually set it to 3.0GHz to make sure it's stable.

    DirectX 9 Bug

Whenever I play DirectX 9 on my computer, I get a weird graphical glitch so that certain pieces of artwork for wonders on build cues and the artwork for completed wonders, social policies, Leader splashes when it loads the game, and civilian assignment in cities, are all shrunk, off-center, in some cases displaying part of another piece of similar artwork (A wonder build cue showing parts of the build-cue artwork for other wonders), and in some cases missing altogether. Running this in DirectX 10/11 fixes the problem... Until the game randomly crashes on me for no discernible reason.

Is there anything I can do to fix this?
