Why the reversion to CIV III, getting rid of one of the best updates in CIV IV, namely allowing cavalry upgrade to helicopter units? Cavalry existing in the modern and future eras is just absurd.
Agreed.
No.
Had the same issue, yet only once. I believe it was in trading my gold for a resource the other civ only had one of. I had another resource added to the list to give, but it seems after accepting, the computer automatically changed the gold value from 1 to 3. ::shrug:: this is an obscure bug.
There are a couple of buffoons floating around here with the title of "Tech Support" but in my limited attention to the forum I haven't seen them produce anything of consequence.
First off I know I just squeak through the gate with system requirements to play the game, but I have put everything on minimal settings and the game starts up and I can play but at a certain point it just freezes. I checked my CPU usages and when it freezes my CPU usage is at 50% which is what it normally uses when the game runs anyway. Ram usage is at 90%
My Hardware configuration is:
Processor: Athlon X2 4400+ 64 bit
Motherboard: Asus A8N SLI premium
Memory: 2 gigs Kingston PC3200
VideoCard: GeForce 7800GT @ 256mb Gddr3
Again my video card is below spec but not by much. The funny thing is I can run the game for a random interval of time sometimes hours on end sometimes 30 minutes and then nothing it freezes and thats it.
I know its not a tempurature issue because my probes read 34C for my CPU 44 for my GPU...
I am stumped on this, is there a process that the game starts to run at random that might cause a crash?
Has anyone found a workaround for the eternal peace-treaty yet? I'm really sick of it ruining every game.
So I was playing an didn't have many problems until I reached around 300 - 400 turns.
Artillery - I noticed that sometimes these units when you select them to range attack, without the range showing, they will move 2 spaces directly next to the city.
Diplomacy - I asked another rules to create a peace treaty with a city state I had a peace treaty with. After 30 turns I still cannot attack the ruler because the computer thinks I am still under an peace agreement? It doesn't even show any agreements under the diplomacy screen.
Overheating - I know my laptop runs pretty hot as it is but my heat goes up to as high as 88c degrees. This is shouldn't happen from playing a game. I turned off V-Sync an noticed a decrease to 80c, but its still to high for my liking.
Carrier's - I landed a plane on a carrier and it had a number 1 at the top. When I flew the plane into a city the number 1 remains on the carrier. So now it looks like I have two planes?
I can keep adding to this list too. So to say a few things positive....
I think the graphics are nicely done. I like how detailed the rulers look and at the early stages of the game its very smooth. The City States are definitely a cool concept along with not allowing people to stack. I know I will get bashed for that last comment, but I think it adds a new element to the game. The game definately has a lot of potential but....
YOU NEED TO FIX THIS GAME QUICK!! I DONT WANT TO WAIT FOR A GAME THAT I PAID FOR!!! How did you not catch these problem in QA!!! Did you even test?

More bugs and oversights for the list.
Revisiting one bug with more detail a previous member had mentioned. Trading horses with other civs at any amount other than the default 5 will change the amount of turns on your side from "x" to "y", values different depending on game speed, i think x is 225% larger than y each mode? Here's the example: Call up montezuma on his cell and say "Yo, want some horses you'll never use?" I place the horses into the trade but then I change the value to anything that I have, but low enough that he'll be able to afford it. Currently below the horse image in trade it will say "45 turns" I'll change it to 10 horsies and ask what he will give me for it. Once I press the button "What will you give me for this?" the "45 turns" changes to "20 turns." This is on epic speed, appears to be different values but same general idea on different speeds. After 20 turns, the next 15 turns provides a message saying the deal has ended and each turn will provide me 10 more delicious horses. This then can be used as an exploitation since every civ gets moist at the thought of horse meat (double entendre!) and will give you anything for the right amount of equidae. My current game: 18 iron, 31 coal, 5728 horses.
Here's a strange occurrence I spotted: I checked the diplomatic overview and spotted that Oda Nobunaga has a pact of secrecy with al-Rashid... against Oda Nobunaga. Maybe Oda had dissociative identity disorder.
Oversight - not a bug, just something retarded.
Here's thebes, my capital city. It has 3 luxury resources worked generating a decent amount of gold. I have a market, bank, and stock exchange. I'm running low on funds? I'll just change production to wealth- wait, what? I get 1? ONE more gold per turn? ::looks at the tooltip:: 10% production converted into gold. Really? That's just, well that's just retarded. I have 3 options here now.
1) I can build something and make full use of my production which will inevitably bankrupt me since I'm already losing gpt
2) I can switch to research which at least gives a 25% payout but is completely useless once future tech becomes available (because future tech doesn't do ****) or
3) Basically just turn off production and reap the handsome rewards of that one extra gpt. With that return, in 310 turns I can purchase a worker! :D Oh wait, the game will be over by then...
My posts totally are.
I have seen this as well. When you select the "1" above the carrier now, even though the plane is in a different city, it will allow you to select it and the plane does in fact show that it is in the city and has the correct movement radius. It's just a lingering shortcut to the plane. I had this moving from a city to another city, both cities had the "1" above it.

One of the most annoying 'features' is not being able to demand that another civ move their units. How can a civ that you have no active 'open borders' treaty with have units in YOUR territory that just sit there blocking you and you can do NOTHING but declare all out war!
I also have a City-state that says it wants a road to my capital and is blocking the last tile with a worker that WON'T move must be 20-30 turns now and it just sits there!
Also pretty sure that discovering a wonder did NOTHING for my happiness. Need to test/watch this one further.
Why can't we HURRY production. Even if a long production has 2-3 turns to go it still costs the same to buy it!
Should also be a way, other than war or 'culture-bomb' to 'Capture' tiles that are within two tiles of your city. Is there even a mechanism for a cities culture altering existing tile ownership? I've never seen one change regardless of a high a cities culture is.
Anyway that's my rant for the day. Why am I still playing/beta testing this 'bugged to hell' game anyway? Are there any 2K people out there? Do you think if we all banded together a lawsuit might work?
ok...since my last 2 bug threads were virtually ignored i'll post them here where it says bugs
1.map huge, playing the arabs, marathon, highland, prince, large lakes... i have 3 coastal cities in wich the only unit that apears in the list for use on water is the workboat, but the AI bulids frigates and all the rest...
2.city states are not supposed to expand city-wise...if they go to war they are supposed to capture an enemy city and raze it...on the same map it puppeted the city....
somebody has any ideas?...anybody?
Too many crashes- pretty much every game no matter what the settings (small map, standard, large, low and minimal graphics, etc.). This game will be shelved and I'll return to some other civ-style games until patched. What a major disappointment.
The Arabians Baazar isn't working as it should, It's supposed to give an extra copy of a luxury, and it shows that it does in the trade screen, but when I trade my extra it gives me 0 copys of said luxury.
Also extra copys of luxuries from city-states don't show up on the trade screen.
I used the fixes here to take care of crashing, etc. It also told me how to remove the intro video - which is cool at first - but I like loading the game faster =)
Civilization V(5) Crashes, Black Screen, Anti Alias (AA) Fix, Freezes, 0x8000ffff, Wont Save Fixes, Skip Intro
Also eagerly awaiting a fix. Contemplating starting another game and putting my current marathon on hold until a patch allows me to finish my domination... This game is like crack, even with it's bugs... I know 2K is hard at work on it, only a matter of time. They didn't ever disappoint with Civ IV, and I'm sure they don't plan on starting to now.
TWO SECTIONS! FIRST: ANSWERS!
since only the community has the balls to answer them
Verified on my side yet resolved by manually moving worker to adjacent tile, connecting to both tile w/ road in place and tile that holds city (!Thank you new tiles!). So in conclusion, 'route to' ai needs work and ALL automated worker ai needs heavy, heavy work (in this instance pertaining to city-state-specific ai). *note* unresolved if the city-state is positioned in a bottleneck of land where there are no land tiles that navigate around it. There is where it causes the big problem, probably the situation DarthLuca explained.
Check it again, never experienced it myself nor seen it from others.
Different game, different mechanics. I've come to terms with this and it does makes sense in the general scheme of things. Personally i like not being able to "buy" courthouses and to speed up wonders. It adds a different element of strategy that you are not used to and is a bit more... well, real i guess. the machu picchu was not built from gold or from services purchased, it was built from labor. it makes sense, and in a utopian civ5 this is an excellent modification.
Again, different game, different mechanics. I can't stress enough what another player had demonstrated to me before, this is not Civ4. While i was surprised and a bit disappointed at first that culture didnt force influence on other civs territory/cities, i quickly realized the beauty of the mechanic. An entire city's defection is so incredibly unlikely it seems pointless to put it into a game that focuses quite a lot on realism. What you can do is place your settler's new cities in key locations and purchase key tiles when necessary, but be careful of both aforementioned actions as there may be diplomatic repercussions. Yes, i'm selling it and i'm ignoring my associated grievances.
For the... expeditious... reaction to this, i implore you to elaborate. this is something i have not myself explored, so please, tell us the details. what does it show on the trade? what happens before/after? in what situation *exactly* are you left with 0 of that luxury resource? This is a good bug i have not found myself, so i say do it do it do it. help us out, give as much information as possible even if you think it has nothing to do with your subject.
Understand that if a city-state or even if another civ has access to let's say 1 whale resource and they trade it out to another civ whether it be by alliance (city-state) or trade (another civ) it will NOT be available to any other civ including yourself. I have not found any problems here, ofcourse i my be wrong so check your savegames.
I'd put that game behind you, a lot of times patches don't apply to the mechanics of games already started! you're better off forgetting about it or, if you want finality, get that uranium and a couple of death robots and finish it off.
I'm done drinkin for tonight. good luck!

Basically exactly as the title says, permanent war and peace currently do not function correctly.
For example, I made a little mod/scenario for the Greco-Persian Wars.. It has 3 city states, and 3 civilizations. All of them are supposed to be at either permanent war or peace, but after about 10 turns the AI will offer me peace, even though I can't offer them peace. And then the AI's make peace with each other too, even though if I play as any of them, I cannot offer it, but I can receive peace offers from the AI's.
Seriously this is getting old finding bugs that should have been squashed in the alpha phase.
I'm on my second new card GeForce GTS 250 1gb GDDR3 brand new super clean system, CIV V causes artifacting at 61 degrees.
I'm having issues with Civ V as well I cant seem to find the error or problem, I'm on my second video card. First one was the Geforce GTX+ 9800, Civ V fried it!!! it went all artifact on me. yes it was clean with an additional cooling fan on it!
I bought a quick replacement GeForce GTS 250 1gb
this card after about 10-20 mins of hard play on low with a few medium settings would start to artifact a QUICK hit of windows button would take me out and I could click back in, the image would refresh and a could play a few more turns then same thing if I was quick it would never hard lock. I did this for 1 day and downloaded EVGA PRECISION this allows you to quickly modify your fan speed. I focred the fan speed to 85% and was able to run the game for about 1-2 hrs prior to another initial artifact. seems the game causes artifacting at low temps about 61 degrees for me I have to keep it at this temp or lower to play without errors.
so in a nutshell, try EVGA PRECISION, its a free download that controls fan and GPU speeds/levels easy to use... seeif you get more game time if so it may be a heat issue
HOWEVER, I think its a heat, memory leak, and device driver issue rolled into one with CIV V
Isn't it sad when you sign up for a forum because of numerous game errors?![]()
I have well over the required specs to run the game, but I still have A LOT of lagging and crashing. I've updated my drivers, but that didn't really help. Are lots of people having memory leak issues? It seems like the longer I play, the slower the game gets. I sometimes wait a couple of minutes for a turn to process on a large map. Also, after I create a new city, the screen will freeze for a couple of minutes. My first game was on a huge map, but somehow the large map seems even slower.
According to dxdiag, I have DirectX 11 on my computer, but the game crashes if I try to run the DirectX 10/11 version. I can get past the video, but the game crashes as soon as I click on "Click to Continue". Should I just keep running the DirectX 9 version? Could this be causing the slowness?

when people say there musn't be widespread problems because not many people post here, they're just wrong.
i'm no longer getting to the crash stage because now i have artifacts.
maybe 300 turns. we're not all computer experts, just people who enjoy games. i didn't even know what artifacts was until i looked it up. but that's what i have. are there some visual settings in the game that i could change to help that? is this something that will be/can be fixed by a patch?
does the company even acknowledge that there is a problem and that the problem is not on my end? i tried lowering the resolution. should that help?
i'm playing on dx10/11. should i try dx9 again?
reading these threads i'm now afraid to ruin my video card, albeit obsolete.

Don't worry about damaging your video card. The only way the game could do that is if there was already a pre-existing hardware problem. As for the artifacts, could you post a screenshot?
My earlier post seems to have disappeared. Not sure if it will re-appear. It was about the game 'freezes' now occuring on 'Large' world game.
Aha - Found it on a different thread - my bad. (Copied here)
****
The first 'major' patch cannot come too soon!
I am 350 turns into a Pangaea, Warlord game on a Large world. There are two main factions left, Me and the Romans and the final war to end all wars has already kicked off. . . Not sure exactly when it started to get really noticable but I am experiencing major 'lockups' / 'freezes'. Ending my turn now now means waits of over 1 minute while the computer does whatever it does, but during this time the whole thing is completely frozen (apart from the mouse cursor) not even a 'Please wait', it just freezes. So far at least it comes back -Eventually. This Also happens when I take cities and at other odd times. Of ALL the bugs / problems / issues I have found so far THIS is the back-breaker. I do hope this is fixed or at least majorly improved with this patch because otherwise this game is broken beyond redemption and I will move on to something else until it IS fixed.
To put this into perspective, I have a newish I5-750 quad core processor running at 2.67Mhz. I have to ask 'What the hell is this program doing that it can bring an I5 to it's knees?'.
Also! - Once an enemy city is captured and it's lands are MINE the computer is incorrectly still showing enemy troops as getting a bonus for being in THEIR territory! It would appear that if you capture a city the computer still views the land around it as belonging to the previous owner. So it is getting bonuses for being in it's territory even when it isn't! (Talk about an unfair advantage).
****
Anyway latest problem is Tanks not using Railroads properly - Seriously, not sure what move rate Railroads are supposed to give but they suck at twice the price of roads and Tanks don't seem to get any move bonus from using them! Seems to be to do with where you click on the railroad to move the unit. Definitely variable depending upon where unit is going, what the unit is and where you click!

In game, hit the Print Screen button on your keyboard to take a screenshot. You'll find it in My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\ScreenShots. Then you'll want to convert it to a JPG (I think you can do this with Paint if you don't have another program), upload it to an image site like imgur.com and post a link to it here.
Further to my earlier post it doesn't just seem to be tanks not getting any movement bonus with Railroads, nothing seems to get much benefit. Units maybe get an extra square of movement but that's it!? Now I've noticed this I will keep an eye on it to see if I can work out exactly what's going on. Can confirm that my Mech Infantry will move maximum of 12 tiles along a railroad - Same as road I think!?
I also have to say something about generals. They are rubbish! Apart from the +25% bonus (which is useful), they struggle to keep up with other units and apart from 'sleep' or 'do nothing' what else can you do with them? Citidel is right up there with chocolate teapot in terms of usefullness. I would suggest that they should be: Move 3; Ignore terrain as scouts do and have some better commands like 'Rally troops' (+5% bonus for 1 turn) or 'Motivate' (+1 move for unit in hex) or whatever. An option to build 'Barracks', 'Armory' or other city improvement would also make them more useful.
I just had a situation where a city state (Edinburgh) was asking for help against a Civ (France) as being attacked. Ok I thought I get on with the French, so I negotiated a Peace treaty against the City-state in exchange for some spare luxuries. Great I thought - A diplomatic solution. What do I get - NOTHING! Just 'City state no longer needs your help'! Not even a thankyou! But what did I expect from this program?

What really absurd is americans watched too much of "Apocalypse Now" and call helicopter units "cavalry".
If cavalry should be upgraded into anything it's mechanized infantry.
But ability to build cavalry should be even in future era. Never heard of a mounted police? And it's nice to be able to gift these low-tech units to poor underdeveloped allies.
Apperently, the perma peace is not limited to peace only. I am currently in a game where my research agreement with France has not only passed without any notification as to a recieved tech (and no I did not recieve the tech and double checked my log), but I can not enter a new research agreement with him as it still thinks we are entered into one. 200 turns later and I might as well wipe him off the face of the earth since he stole my money. Yay for beta testing something I paid for :/
BUG: after a trade for oil resources expired, every 3rd turn I get the same notification. It also continues to deduct 3 oil resources from my total every time the notification comes back, so I'm now running at -16 oil when I'm only actually using 1 resource. When I mouse over the strategic resource display at the top, it says "-15 total, 1 used." I've manually counted my own oil resources and I should have about 8 within my empire borders. I've also noticed in other games I get continued notifications of the same peace treaty expiring and some other random notifications that should only display once.
I don't know if anyone else has had this problem, but the game runs completely fine on my computer except for in diplomacy. I'm pretty sure there's supposed to be video for them, but there's not. It's just a static image of the leader. Any ideas?

Not sure if this has been brought up but I'm playing as Wu Zetian and have a city that has zero food, 3 production and 1 gold in the city center. I thought cities had 2 food as a standard? I want to upload a photo but I do not see a way to do that. Is there?
Have restarted my pc....it makes a strange noise when the cd is in....works to hard or something...and it can not detect the cd.
anyone able to help me?
