    Fix I`ve found

Right after trying everything whats been posted on these forums and failing to get the game working, which i`m not saying any of you who posted fixes where wrong, this is how I`ve got the game running.
So far I only know that this stopped the "Bioshock needs to close" so I don`t know if it solves anything else. The only thing i can`t seem to solve is the sound, although I only get a bit of stutter on cut scenes so its not to bad.

    Go to your steam folder:

    Open steamapps:

In that folder you should see 5(five) BIOSHOCK blah blah. Ncf files.:

Delete them and close the folders:

Now launch steam and you should see that it`s saying Bioshock in not installed. (DONT PANIC):

Click to launch Bioshock and the box to download it again will appear:

Click next and all that crap in the download box:

Steam will now show that it is downloading but doesn`t. (again DON`T PANIC):

    Bioshock should now boot up.

Now I do need to tell you that this is only a quick fix and you may have to repeat this process if your game won`t load but don`t worry all your save games, keybindings and settings are not lost by deleting these files.

    I`m running it on.
    Windows Vista Ultimate 64
    AMD 64 3800+
    asus an8 sli deluxe
    Evga 8800gtx
    2 gig ram
    X-fi extrememusic sound card

All drivers upto date. And it runs as smooth as skill with everything on high settings.

    hope this helps for now.

No idea why it has done that mate but all i can say is sorry.
It worked for me, so all I have done is shared with you and hundreds more looking for an answer.
Are you sure you only deleted those 5 files and nothing else.
It does say that you have to download it all again but it doesn`t. Try and click launch and see if it runs.
If it doesn`t then once again I`m sorry.

    Hang on a minute here.
I`ve tried to get this game running since friday without any luck whatsoever.I`ve tried everthing thats been posted on here and on the steam website and nothing has worked.I`ve re-download it 5 times and installed it the same and nothing.

Now I tried what is posted above and it worked so I thought hey I`ll share my find with the other unfortunate people out there who still can`t get their game to run after trying everthing else on here.

So if you have any ideas on how to get the game to run then lets here it, if not less of the numbnuts and sort it out for your f**king self.

In all fairness he is trying to help. This game seems to have so many different bugs its hard to know what will work and what wont.

The weird thing is after about 20 minutes of it claiming it was downloading it all again it stopped and let me launch the game.

And I actually got to play some ... that was until I went to save the game and then it crashed again with the same bioshock.exe has stopped working error...

But when I was playing it , it did look pretty impressive in all of its DX10's glory.

    Thanks again

just need to save frequently now

Try the other executable other than Bioshock.exe, it's called testapp.exe.

    Can't guarantee it'll work but it's possible.

I myself can only launch the game on average once out of 20 or 30 tries, I always get a crash on startup due to steam.dll_unloaded. Some days I can't launch the game at all, some days I can launch the game just fine. Today testapp.exe worked when Bioshock.exe didn't work--but I can't guarantee a permanent solution.

Hey one thing worth trying would be creating a new partition on the harddrive, and then putting steam onto the new partition. Dont know if itll fix it but Im running all my games on a seperate partition and every game wrks fine. Because I see no reason why a system with the same GPU and the same amount of memory would not work str8 away.
