    (360)Minerva's Den Texture Problems

I have only finished the first area of the new DLC on my xbox 360, but about halfway through it I started to notice textures not fully loading. When I am wandering around, unless I look at anything for a few seconds without moving, the textures do not fully load and just appear blurry. Really ruins the experience since Bioshock excels in design. Is this happening to anyone else? The problem is on everything from the architecture, vending machines, corpses; I thought might just be on its way out, but I loaded up normal single player and multiplayer (haven't check the protector trials) and the problem is only in Minervas Den.

"Texture pop-in" as it's called, happens in Minerva's Den, the main single player campaign, as well as multiplayer. It's nothing new.

I never noticed it in the others this badly. I know i've seen it in multiplayer before but only every once in awhile. But every last thing in Minerva's Den suffers from it. So I'm walking around in a blurry world and will only get to see things clearly if I stand still and decide to look at something specific.

Hmmm, that's much worst than the texture pop-in I experienced. So...an entire room would be completely blurry? Does it become clear after a few seconds or does it stay like that until you look in a specific direction?

entire rooms are like that and only fill in temporarily when I look at something specific for a few seconds. If I turn away and come back to it, I'll have to wait for the texture to reload again. I'm just now starting the second area, so I'll post again in a bit if the problems continue.

    Are you surprised?

2K hasn't fixed anything in the original game... People on all platforms have been reporting bugs for 6 months, but they focus on making DLC's.
You can't expand a broken game. Most companys know this...

I've got PC and we don't have any SP DLC's, but I expected a lot of bugs in Minerva for the consoles since it was stressed to release, just as BioShock 2 was.....

That's funny, because I haven't encountered any bugs in Minerva's Den (except achievement issue, which is MS fault) There are even improvements, such as vending machines sounds.

Haha ouch. I do agree with you though. I personally never had an real issues with BS1 or BS2, and texture pop-in happened to me a small degree, I just wasn't bothered with it, Minerva's Den seems to work but BARELY. I don't understand how for some people it can be working fine and others just going kaput, it makes no sense, unless every different copy is maybe coded differently? And as some sort of joke they send out the ☺☺☺☺ed up ones so they can giggle when they get money for broken games. Yay. I've now spent about £100 on the Bio franchise, I would at least expect a DLC that works...

But tell me - what is actually wrong with Minerva's Den? I'm during my second playthrough right now, and I REALLY haven't encountered any major bugs so far. I know it's easy to complain, but..

I had the EXACT same problem with Minerva's Den. I never noticed problems like that in the campaign or multiplayer, but this DLC for some reason often has blurry textures (such as posters) which only become clear after you walk up and look at them closely for a few seconds.

    Issues on PS3

I've had a few problems with this DLC on PS3. First, after I installed the DLC I couldn't load my original campaign save. Uninstalling the DLC allowed me to load the save and I could repeat the issue by re-installing the DLC.

Now, many of the helmet effect are just black. Things like the drops of water are just black dots rather than clear and the blur effect when getting covered by falling water causes the screen to go black. This may be related to issues loading the texture.

I had to put the Minerva's Den gameplay experience aside due to major problems. I know they appeared in some other topics as well, but here's the small summary of what I got:

    1. damaged sound - some of the actions are either very low volume or you can't hear them at all
    2. textures popup - never noticed this in the main game. Here it's necessary to wait for 5-6 seconds for the level textures to load fully
    3. can't start the single player campaign

I decided not to play further not to ruin the experience, as the plot and overall setting is, as usual, incredible. I just look forward for 2K to fix all the mentioned issues (please, fix the sound because it's terrible to hear myself screaming of pain and not to hear someone's shooting at me and causing this pain!) so I could finish this DLC and come back to the incredible main game, which I can't do now;/

I can atest to the sound issue and the texture pop-in. I didn't notice it in the main game but for Minerva it does load up after some seconds. I even installed the game to the hard drive to see if that helps, it didn't.

As for single player campaign, do you mean start a new game?
I loaded up one of my saves and it works, cant say I started a new game yet though.

For me, natural camo doesn't work either. It works in Minerva but in the next level, it doesn't. I'll stand still for 5 minutes, no one around, nothing happens. I un-equippped/re-equipped it to no avail.

Jakkaru - I mean I can't load the main game. After selecting Load, the loading screen appears, the music plays, but it never ends. Eventually, everything freezes and after pressing the PS button, the console reboots.

I downloaded the Protector Trials yesterday - it's like a razor! Sharp textures, great sound, fast loading! Completely opposite to Minerva's Den!

2K - please, fix it - I really want to check Minerva's further and get back to the main game to get my last two trophies

Can't load the main game? Wow that stinks. I have mine for the 360, but for the PS3 there is an initial install right? Delete the install and DLC.
Reinstall, try it, then exit. Install the DLC, try it then exit, and so on eventually Minerva will be your last DLC install.

If something is not loading, just like a PC game, something messed up.

Jakkaru - yeah, I know it sux. I don't want to try to remove and reinstall all the main game & DLC files as some people on this forum tried this already and it didn't work. The only way out I see now is to get some fix from 2K, but no one knows anything about this one... Well, the only thing I can do now is to focus on Protector Trials (which is great, by the way) and wait until someone let me play the main game again...

I was concerned that I was the only one noticing the issues with the Minerva's Den DLC.

Bioshock 2 has some texture pop-in issues and I noticed reviews and tweets regarding it but assumed the technical issues couldn't have been worse then what was in the main release. Sadly I was wrong.

Loved Bioshock 2 and I like what I've been seeing as a properly priced last romp for a long time into Rapture but the performance issues make the game almost not enjoyable at all. Played up to the first big daddy fight and decided to see if others were having the same problems I were.

There was a point where I had the player character looking at a desk for more then five seconds waiting for the textures to load.

    Please fix this.

I also noticed irritating texture pop-in issue, especially on posters, boxes, etc (PS3 version).

For me it looks like nothing will be done about this problem. It's a little disgraceful and unexpected - with buying the Minerva's Den DLC I expected something more or less stable with the potential possibility to fix something which may not work correctly.

So many people here complaint over the texture, sound and main game loading problem and so far we're left with nothing. I bought the DLC and now I can't play it, waiting for the proper moment to be able to enjoy it 100%...

Shame on you, 2K - at least let us know if you actually do ANYTHING towards fixing this issue...

This is definitely not something we're seeing a lot of - If you guys are seeing this happen, can you uninstall and reinstall in case something went awry?

    Hi, Elizabeth.

Thank you very much for your reply - I really appreciate this!

I decided to uninstall Minerva's Den and Protector Trials DLC week ago to finish the main game. I completed it today and this is what I did:

I removed all the DLC data file, downloaded the update, loaded the save from the main game, played it, saved it and downloaded the DLC again. Now I can load/save main game, Minerva's Den and Protector Trials - I think the save has to be converted to some new format after the update, for both main game and DLC. I'm so glad it's working now as I really enjoy playing all the game's features!

Minerva's Den looks like working a little bit better - at least the textures won't pop out of nowhere. The sound is still a little bit messy - especially when someone is shooting/talking/walking behind the wall. I know there's this sound suppression effect in the game - but here it removes the sound almost completely. I found a solution though - I've move the volume up and decreased the speech sound level - now I can hear everything without my ears being blown off with the dialogues and recordings.

I think this solves the problem - I don't know why it happened now, even when I reinstalled the whole game&DLC files some time ago and it didn't work then. I feel a little bit stupid now making my previous comment yesterday and claiming that everything is working today. I hope the experience I described above will help the other user to overcome this problem, if occurs.

Thanks again for your interest in this problem, Elizabeth - it's highly appreciated when someone cares about someone else's problem. Thank you!

    Kind Regards!

Hearing all these problems with Minerva's Den really has me second guessing on whether to pick it up or not.
