Player spawns under the ground and falls through open space

Hello there 2K gamers.

I have been playing Mafia II for a while now, really an awesome game. However, I am at chapter 12 (I think, not sure though) where this annoying bug appears and I can't continue the game.

When I start the mission I am spawning under the ground, and if I move - I fall under the town and I'm just keep falling...

For those who played Mafia this far:
It's the mission where Joe are captured, and after you have escaped the building.

Please let me know if someone else encountred this problem or know a solution.

yeah im on the same mission different bug when i have to open the door of the mona lisa it never opens it keeps asking me to open again

Mufffin, I'm glad that you created this thread - I have a similar bug but on the other chapter. It looks like there are textures but map is not complete. I recorded short movie showing what is this about. I uploaded it on YouTube:

I also want to say that I was reinstalling a game few times, graphic card drivers, directX. I have:

Windows 7, 32bit
C2D E8400 3,0Ghz
4GB RAM
GTX 260

This same exact bug has happened to me twice now and it's incredibly annoying. Chapter 14 is so long, difficult and tedious - you have to go kill that informant, have that cheap fight with Derek, drive back and forth looking for Joe, survive the construction site shootout - and doing that twice, on hard, and then hitting a gamekilling bug has pretty much sapped any enthusiasm I had for finishing the game.

Right now, my last saved checkpoint starts right outside the construction site with Vito underneath the map floating endlessly through space. I hope 2K can patch the game from this point because there's no way I'm going to suffer through that awful boss fight at the docks again.

Yepp, that describes what I did too. I played the chapter twice but with same result. They really need to release an update...

I Hope they make you able to still play the game after finnished it, because i really want to drive all the cars i upgraded and rob shops ;P i dont care if its gonna cost money to buy a game pack, all i want is free roam.

Yeah, when the 'fall to oblivion' happened to me I was in a car at the entrance to the upscale clothes store, playing Chapter 14. On the up side, because I was stuck there I decided to hold the accelerator and see what would happen and it gave me the "Pedal to the Metal" trophy.

2K, the game rocks! A perfect meld between a movie and a game. However, you have got to fix these "bug-s". It sucks not being able to finish the game.

I get stuck just as you leave the construction site.

PC. But it seems that this bug is pretty common - even on PS3 and XBOX.

i have the same problem at chaptor 2 so it realy sucks for me


i updated all my drivers and stuff....


so its not that your 3D card can`t run the game ( as in GTA IV happend a lot)
but its a game error and maffia 2 shoulld fix this so soon as possible and if they don`t it really sucks :S i want to play the ☺☺☺☺ing game :S

heyy im happy that i have found this as i was worred i was the only one. i look on you tube and i'v see people play chapter 13 part 1 (this is were im screwed) and they do it with out falling. when / if they do update it do you need x-box live? becuse i havent got it at the moment :/ and thats a was of £40 but all in all this is a really good game is any one else stuck on chapter 13 part 1 as well? :/

1. when you get to the point where you fall out the map dose anyone else notice there xbox 360 get quieter?

2. if they do an update i'm guessing you need xbox live to update it what if you don't have it?

I'm on PC but I supposed your xbox gets quieter because it doesn't have to render the 3d scene.

Had the same problem on PC. Started that chapter again and when i was leaving the building, that time i took THE LEFT turndoor (instead of the right).

It worked. Hope i could help a few here.

Hey Horiyoshi, thanks for the idea. I tried on PC now aswell, I took the left one as you said.... but I'm still falling down

same here on chapter 14, when i leave the building with joe, played the level again, removed the patch, reinstalled it, no effect at all. I contacted 2k yesterday, but untill now, no response, hope they are going to fix this very soon, great game so far, its all acceptable if you can continue your game, if a glitch apears, but keeping you from finishing it should be a sin I have the ps3 version of the game

I had the falling trough the ground happen to me in the Demo on the PS3. I was driving around a corner and hit a lamp post and poofff like magic i was falling down.. Only happened once tho.

Have somebody found a solution for this ?? In my case, I'm stuck in the chapter 5 and I cannot play the game further I sent a email to the support, they asked me to send them my dxdiag files which I did but since I get no answer

So I reainstalled the game and this solved the problem !! I made a baclup of my savegame before.

Yup. I just ran Into this glitch today right on chapter 14 like everyone else. Are there any updates From 2K on this? I really don't want to start the chapter over unless I absolutely have to. It's such a tedious mission on hard. I am so frustrated. Btw, I'm playing on the 360.

So I was playing through M2 today again and I have the chapter 14 bug.And injector seems to have stopped working for some reason.
I tried replaying this chapter multiple times but no luck.

Oh god i have this problem aswell, on chapter 8, now there is sometimes a way out of it, but cant be fixed unless 2K update it.
There are many roads to go on your way there, so try all different ones. It might work.
It has for me, but on chapter 9, I've no idea whats going on.
I was so ticked off, doing all that and not being able to do anything else.
