Mafia 2 has the same saving system than Mafia 1. It's good enough.
What did you expect ? Saving at anytime, pressing a button ? This makes things too easy.
Saving all chapter is fine. You can reload them at anytime.

Seriously, Where in the year 2010, the year we make contact with alien beings and we still cant save the game at any point? Come on now, at least give us a specific place to save the game like i dont know maybe the safehouse. That would be smart.

But what if i dont wish to do the missions and just want to explore Empire bay? I dont want to be forced to do a mission in order to save the game.

Why? What would you want to save that checkpoints don't save. Its not like you can really do much outside of the main story

It doesnt matter, That feature should still be available. I just finished robbing a bunch of stores and made thousands of dollars crushing cars. Now i want to put down the game and play again tomorrow. I shouldnt have to start a mission to save a game

No point to save a game anytime... or you're really bad and you need to save after every killing... lol...

Checkpoints saves is enough. It saves, right ? It's a saving system like any other. You don't like it, ok, we understand, but it's your opinion.

Jdwarfer basically summed it up for me.

EDIT: but this is not a free roam game, even though there is an open world that teases you. It is a LINEAR game, and thus doesn't need a saving system.

No its not a saving system like any other. Every game i have in my library allows me to save at any point or provides me a specific point to save at. Major difference

Well this game allows you to play it like a free roam game. Its extremely limited, but i played it as if it was a free roam game. Its possible

So what ? I don't see the problem with checkpoint saves in this game.
It's well done. You don't have to retry at the begining of a chapter.
You're just frustrated because you don't have the control, is that it ? You want to decide when to save. I understand that but for a game like Mafia 2 it's not needed.

    LOL

So I think you just got wrong and Mafia 2 is not a game for you
It's linear, that's the way it is, and has been decided by the devs.
A story based, cinematographic game. Again, it's not a GTA episode.

I went into this game not expecting it to be like GTA. I played the first one. I was just hoping after almost a decade later that they would atleast change something so basic

Face it, you expected something more like GTA.

    Mafia 2 is a good Mafia 1-like.

"Regular saving points" are only in free roam games, and this is not one. Therefore, he expected it to be a free-roaming game, like GTA.

They could have made it so you did have a choice to just save or save and start new chapter when you go to bed, but you should not be able to save during a mission.

In this way every one is satisfied, the players who just run trough the game and we who love to explore the game to its fullest.

No i expected it to have a save point. A save point is a location where you can save a game so you can continue the game at another time. Many games have this simple feature, NOT ONLY GTA

I used GTA as an example because it is the most popular free roaming game. Name a linear game like Mafia 2 that uses save points that you want.
