    City Feels Alive to Me

    (PC Version - HIGH SETTINGS)

I dunno what all these reviews are talking about. The city feeling empty and not alive. That's bull. I've played a good bit already and the city feels very much alive to me. There's much more going on than in the GTA games. In GTA people walk up and down the streets, and that's it.

People walk the streets, they go eat, the scripted stuff that's going on with the random stuff really help the FEELING of the city in MAFIA II. I love it.. it really immerses me. You guys that changed your mind about buying are missing out on an awesome game. The cinematics combined with playing are AMAZING.

Also.. I know the game lacks side activities, but honestly.. in this type of game, (think of MAFIA 1), you don't NEED it. It's not necessary. Once you get started with the story, you don't really feel like doing anything else. Think of it as Unchartered 2 in a sandbox. The sandbox is just BONUS because the immense amount of detail.

It's different.. and honestly.. some people might have a hard time understanding that. But it truly is something different. It's a linear experience set in a sandbox world.. what's so wrong with that?

Once you start playing and you start to understand, then you'd be more accepting of it.. it truly is amazing.

MAFIA 2 is cramped with a bunch of LITTLE details during the missions that I won't spoil, but these little things that happen are what will make the game memorable, so much immersion it's ridiculous!

Also, you guys that complain about Free Roam after the game... it's just not that type of game, it's not GTAIV. There was no free roam after MAFIA 1, it's story driven. Like I said, it's not a typical sandbox. It's a linear epic story set in a sandbox world. It's like taking a linear game, and putting it in a GO ANYWHERE environment. For MAFIA II being what it is, it's just different! It doesn't lose quality because of this, it just makes everything around you seem bigger and perfectly detailed like it should be. When Metal Gear Solid ends, why would you want to free roam? It's just not that type of game.

If anything.. just free roam DURING the game like you are supposed to. :P Why must it be so diehard important that you do it at the end?

Yes, there was a free roam in Mafia I. I can't say that Mafia II is 100% of
what I expected, but it is 98%

I agree with you that city feels alive, it's freaking amazing!!!!!
This is THE BEST GAME I HAVE EVER PLAYED!

And one more thing... Mafia 1 is 1000 times better than ANY GTA games, mafia 2 is much more GTA is the game without soul, it's interesting to drive around in GTA, but the campaign is awful, there is no story, missions are soooo boring, and the characters are not so interesting. This are the things that GTA will never have!!!!!

    Mafia RULES!!!

Awesome... I get mine today after work... cant wait. Im sure as we go there will be DLC's for this.. I just know that the developers will keep us busy for some time to come.... thanks for the post, Im very much excited to play.

Something about the 40's and 50' I love.... call me oldschool, but the times were more about family and allthough money was important.... the times really did teach the young about respect, honor, and the meaning of keeping a family together no matter how hard the times.... through bad or good.

    Thumbs up

Can it be? Some positive feedback on Mafia 2?
Thanks for that, Laphin. I was almost getting worried with all the complaining and bad reviews.

I think the game itself is going to be great.... Everything has been so meticuliously well prepared.

Im sure in the months to come there will be even more content.... more story and more Equipment etc.

The 40-50's is a great time period.. the music is outsanding... everything I have read so far is 90% approval..

For all the haters..... "Forget about it" play your game.. and get immersed...

This game rocks! I've played and love Mafia I and Mafia II is better IMO. Everything you have said OP is spot on. I 100% agree with him. This game may not be free roam, but once you start the story you won't want to stop. This game is very immersive and cinematic, kinda reminds me of the cinematic of Mass Effect I and II. I really love this game so far.

All of you who are on the fence, you are free to jump right onto the side of getting the game now. Its a winner.

Yeah it was free ride, and I know what I'm talking about .. I own the game. What was there to do in free ride in MAFIA 1, drive.. that's it. What's the point?? Why not just do it during the game?? There was no side missions or mission objectives.

The whole point of free roam is to finish up side missions and stuff you missed during the game. There's no point in it for MAFIA at all. You can collect everything you need during the game, since there ARE no side missions to finish after the story is over. get my drift? :P

You can free roam... the Devs even said you can cruise around inbetween missions, so not sure why everyone posts you cannot free roam.

No there is no free ride.. but you can free ride during the game.. there's really no need for it outside of the story.

Yeah that's what I don't get.. everyone's being so stupid about free roaming AFTER the game is over.. when you can just do it during the game.

Again the ONLY reason GTAIV offers free roam after the game is over is to finish Side Stories. People aren't getting it through their fat heads that there is no more story in MAFIA II after you finish the last chapter, so there is NO point to free roaming after the credits roll.

If you come back and argue that you need to free roam after the game to collect the rest of the collectibles, that's lazy talk.. DO IT DURING THE GAME, like everyone else. You can free roam DURING the game. :P

You are clearly retarded or high, one of two. I finished Mafia 1 for like 10-11 times by now, trust me I know that I'm saying. There were LOTS of side-missions, subquests in MAFIA 1, for example the one where you earn the Crazy Horse with that crazy speed effects or the one where you have to drive four racing cars. Maybe you need to just stop posting because you're making a fool of yourself.

    peace out

Hello all, I'm, on Chapter 4 and this game is really amazing. I am playing the PS3 version and its no where near as bad as everyone says it is. The city detail is truly a sight to behold. In missions it adds so much to the experience its not even funny. GTA and RDR can't compare with their stories which are kind of flat and boring to me. I don't know or care about the free roam at the end as I do that during the game itself. Since I have the PS3 version after I finish the game I'll be hanging out in the "Betrayal of Jimmy" DLC. They did us PS3 owners sweet justice by adding these to the game with online leaderboards to keep you playing to make your way up..Some bad in the game...No grass, no blood, no clothing physics, and some frame rate drops but not bad and some tearing inside but I don't even care about that cause it in no way takes away from the great story it is...Graphics are not up to pc standards but then this is a console with its limitations...Even the pc is having its problems from what I gather. This is a game that must be experienced for what it is. A game with great story telling and some really good action all in a city that make you feel like you are really there....No game is perfect but its not like they have not tried to get there---8 Years in dev...Crazyy..Enjoy-enjoy!!!

So you're not the only one who thinks like me! I don't understand these reviews either, seriously, what were they smoking?! I was standing for example on one street just staring at all things happening around me and I was just in awe, never seen anything like that in GTA IV. It all depends where you are in the city. I think those reviewers assume that there should have been more cars and pedestrians, but then again, that killed frame rate in GTA IV and obviously the developers for this game where more focused on performance than Rockstar was, because a 2 1/2 year old game like GTA IV, doesn't even run with half the frame rate what I run this game at.

LOL I agree with you.. I spent some time just walking around.. There are plenty of cars and pedestrians... the Weather effects on Xbox360 is awesome.. you can see the snow drifting along in the night sky from the wind.. Also between the street lights... the minute details inside and outside.. I am happy with this game.. maybe I just love the 40's and 50's but I could just drive around listening to the radio.. and periodically take the car to get gas and for a car wash.. LOL Im enjoying the hell out of this game.

Sounds like alot of whiners on here.. just rampaged thru the game without enjoying what it really was they created.. their loss.
