    Mafia 2 Graphics comparison

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8-Py...feature=search

The screen tearing looks pretty bad on the consoles, but the PC looks pretty great. My 360 demo doesn't have nearly that amount of screen tearing though. Even my PS3 demo doesn't have that much tearing, but it's pretty close.

PS3 during the MG42 has some pretty bad tearing.

Debris on the PC is awesome.

Commenting before thread gets closed :P

The only difference I can see is the lack of grass on the PS3 (but only because of all the media attention it has received).... I probably wouldnt have noticed it otherwise

Apart from that, theres nothing wrong with all 3 versions

There is a giant difference between the PC and consoles versions, especially the resolution. Then when the game comes out the PC will also have AA that actually works.

That man speaks the truth! Why can't people stop bashing a game that's so long in production and just take off their hate-glasses and admire the view? This game looks stunning, PC, PS3, 360.

Yeah, but you really don't need AA at high res like 1080P. Saying there is not difference is just crazy. The PC is head and shoulders about the console. I can understand not seeing anything with the 360 and PS3.

It is really hard to see in the video, the best example of it is when he is in the car, you will notice a big difference between the consoles and PC.

    I saw that too.
I'll look at my comparison videos for anything. It's also seen on Youtube, you know . Maybe the quality is taken away?

Anyway, please post a link for the video you're watching because I see no difference...

It is the same video as posted in the op. It's really weird though that you guys notice no change between the resolutions. It is actually a pretty huge difference.

Alright, I'm moving this to the Technical support forum since I know its going to end up dealing with problems people are having with the different versions. However, this is the only thread that deals with comparisons instead of each platform exclusively, so I'll leave it open. Just don't make anymore or turn this into a sounding board for "PS3 needs patches bawwwww."

    Thanks.

It is probably because you play on the consoles, before you say anything no that is not me making fun of you, I'm just saying when I used to be a console player I never noticed those kinds of things. But ever since I have been playing games on high and benchmarking and doing all that kind of stuff, different resolutions and graphics are very easy to notice.

So believe me, I know how the PS3 version is bad but when a PC player sees it, it is even worse then how most of you guys see it.

Looks good on PC. You can already force AA with nhancer for nvidia cards. Bit performance sapping but it does work just fine, and with a driver update im sure it will be perfectly workable for those with better systems

Does anyone think the early screenshots were doctored ? Example below:

    http://img824.imageshack.us/img824/7...303mafia25.jpg

I mean, I have cranked the settings to max (PC version) and I cant get anywhere near that kind of visual quality. There are heaps of other screenshots (released around the same time) that look similar

If anyone can show me a clip/shot of the demo looking anywhere near that, i'll eat my shorts !

Low textures resolution, they are very blurry textures including on PC

I think the demo looks b..better than that, but that pic was probably taken at a very high resolution.
Notice the sky scrappers have a very low level of d..detail, wall textures dont look that great and the trees look worse too.

    Edit:

Its the blur filter that makes the demo look... blurry.

I havent experienced any screen tear on my PS3 but ive had framerate problems but you rarely notice it so its all good in the hood lol.

I dont understand why console games have s..so much tearing, on the PC screen tearing happens when the frame rate goes higher than the monitor's refresh rate (and vsync isnt enabled), like when the max refresh rate is 60Hz and the g..game runs above that, if you have 50 fps and your screen in at a 60Hz refresh rate you dont n..notice any tearing.

But the fps on the consoles are way bellow the refresh rate on a modern hdtv, no? Maybe it has something to do with upscaling the picture.. .

PS3 looks sharper while the Xbox has the more defined grass between the consoles. I'd say Jack was pretty spot on when he said the games would be almost identical.

I still wish people would wait for the full game before drawing comparisons.

These games are double buffered, that is, the 'FRONT' buffer is the frame on screen, and the 'BACK' buffer is the next frame held on memory. Screentearing is where the back buffered frame is scanned onto the screen on top of the displayed front buffer frame out of sync with one of the screen's refresh passes so the image is torn, where its torn on the screen depends on how far out of sync and behind the swap between the buffers is.

When you have Vsync ON then this is where the output WAITS for the refresh from the display to scan in the next frame. Course waiting to scan in the frame means that will typically slow down the overall framerate refresh.....

Well good. I would like to add that a lot console games often have a sort of dynamic vsync mode which disengages vsync when the performance of the game drops off to try and preserve playable framerate. Mafia 2 appears to have something similar on 360 but as performance is decidedly weaker on PS3 it will disengage and tear considerably more.

In the analysis i have seen, 360 tears about 25 percent and PS3 40 percent of displayed frames. Thats a lot....
