No No NO I would never join the Itailian Mob. Even thought Im 70%Itailian I still never would.why would you even want to join the moderen mob it is just like joining anyother gang execpet it is more orginized.

I have seen people in the real modern mafia and they look tired. The boss gets to contorl how long you work and when you get to see your family. Like iI said above the boss controls you just lke in a real job, but if the boss is overworking you. You just cant quite. They will shoot you and put you in a water fall.

I know you want a wife one day right. When you get that special lady that ring. Then join the mob you will no see her alot. She will ask you "why do you all ways leave for work?" and you cant say anything because Your family cant know about your other family. Also do you want to shoot someone, sell drugs, or steal cars? That is how they make there money doing Highly illeagal activies.

So my advice is to never join a gang even thoughit is an orginized one.

    All mobster stories are:

Rags, Riches, Prison, Snitching, Witness Protection

The Mafia isn't the ones you see in the movies. If anything, It's closest to the Sopranos.

its all in the thrill though. after all; There is no point living if you can't feel alive (James Bond ).
    So yes. maybe. depends...

That's exactly the point. Besides, some people are just born trouble makers.

Some guys obviously have no idea about what maffia actually means. Might want to watch Discovery channel or read some litterature, instead of the romantized stuff you see in the movies. Imagine your parents being killed, and any other relationship you may value.

Same story for these people joining the army whom saw Saving Private Ryan, The Longest day or another heroic movie. Talk to some of the old people whom were actually around at that time, and you'll change your mind quite soon. Believe me, there is more knowledge available about war than ever to the normal civillian, but only few know what real war means.

Look, tbh i would probably join the Mafia... The Italian that is... (i'm 0% italian) in another life, because i could never do that to my family, i've been raised by people who despise crime in every sense of the word. Plus my mother was a judge, retired now, my father is a bookstore owner, i'm in college, so... The only close family member with a record is my uncle who did five years in Italy for selling stolen rolexes (Apparently, in Italy you get a longer sentence for selling stolen stuff rather than stealing it, because you encourage crime)... Also, killing people is not as easy as it seems... I saw a documentary where people talked about war and said that they joined to kill for the country only to find out that killing isn't that easy (a study also said that only 10% of soldiers in Vietnam shot to kill, the other 90 missed on purpose... It's just not in our genes to kill each other)... However, i have cousins with long criminal records, murderers but they aren't so organized... My uncle's wife's brother (LOOOOOL) was a stripclub owner and a heroin trafficker who's doing 15 years because he shot his partner in broad daylight in a full restaurant... Like i said, not so organized...

To anybody that actually would join:

You do realize that all it is is muder, torture, betrayal, and deception. When you aren't in jail, killing your friends, killing innocent people, torturing innocent people, stealing, extorting or dealing drugs, you are probably dead. And even when you do make money off scores, you still have to give 50% to your bosses, so unless you're caporegime, you wouldn't even make as much money as you'd think.

That's all it is.. As it's portrayed in the movies. As I've said before I'm sure life in the real Italian mafia was a great deal more boring than anything we've seen in fiction.

I don't think it's the kind of thing a person would consider in these terms. I think it's more a case of a person being born into it, 'gravitating' to it or being trapped by it...

...I'd imagine it would be more of a question of whether a person would consciously choose and work towards a different path at the point where induction were becoming likely (due to their personality type taking them in that direction, or if they could see it closing in on them).

Not sure if the people born into it and some of those trapped by it really have a choice. I think it would make an interesting social science study.

Personally I'd always opt for what I believe to be true to my nature. If that meant joining I'd say yes, but as it's not my nature I'd absolutely take a different path.

    -----------------------------------------------------

Edit: this might seem too formal but subsequent to the UNICO statement I feel like I need to clarify my point, since there are probably all kinds of people reading this forum and not all of them might understand what I mean...

...basically by "nature" I do not mean ethnicity or nationality. What I mean is the nature of a person's character/personality regardless of nationality, ethnicity, age, sex or gender.

My opinion is that even if you don't join the mafia you'll end in a box...

I guess for some people that's still not a point of diminished returns :-/

This reminds me of my visit to Sicily back in 2007. On the first day of arriving in Trapani, believe it or not I could swear I witnessed some mafia activity. I was in my taxi travelling through a pretty quiet/old area of the town, happened to look out the window, and saw a man outside a small shop (possibly the shop owner) looking pretty shaken up and distraught as this clean shaven man in a dark suit and sun glasses seemed to be giving him a pretty stern talking to.

I also visited the famous town of Corleone. It was literally in the middle of nowhere through lots of hilly countryside away from Palermo. And upon arriving I couldn't help but feel my presence was not very welcome. Creepy atmosphere there.

Some infamous mafia boss was actually only just arrested after some 40 years in hiding in the area of Corleone shortly before I arrived as well!

As for the topic no way in hell would I join the mafia. Couldn't even if I wanted to though I suppose as I'm Irish.

But Italian doesn't just = mafia. Surely you have to have a better reason than that.

    Would I join?

    I'm German/American.

But if I was offered the postion to join the Mob would I?
The answer is yes,yes I would.

The times back them were so much better than they are now!People respected you back then, they knew not to cross the line,or else they...yeah.

If you were poor(Like Vito) it would offer you a chance to escape the poor life you would certainly have back then.

I really hope you're kidding. You're would create a 50's group in these modern times? You'd use tommy guns and m1911's against m16's and ak47's? Good job there.

Why would people want to join a bunch of brainless people

I love the games, movies about the mafia etc. But in real life, they are nothing but brainless people who confront innocent people...just to make some money

    Not like that.

Modern weapons, just with 50's style clothing, etc.

    Yeah...

And yes, I was mostly kidding.
