    Hi guys,

I've noticed alot of confusion on this forum regarding the PS3 version of Mafia II So I thought we (Massive Bear Studios) owe it to ourseves to come on here & to let you guys know that the Full PS3 version of Mafia II will have many drastic improvements over it's demo counterpart.

Yes, That means that it will indeed have the grass, motion blur, & blood pools like the PC & Xbox 360 versions do.. And also there will be no framerate issues like seen in the PS3 demo.

In other words, The Demo is an old build & the Full PS3 Version has no issues at all.

Thank you, & again We're really sorry for any inconvenience this might have caused for you guys as we know how passionate you are about the Mafia game series.

No problems, Enjoy the PS3 version of Mafia II when it's out!

it was deleted already, so I apologize for drifting off topic

I was actually in the process of editing my post, since I missed Xardas' post on page 8

Again my apologies, still I did have a question in regards to the clothing stores In the demo there are 2 completely identical stores that offer a tiny bit of variety when it comes to colors, will there actually be some other brand of clothing stores or tiny details like that?

I would be fine with all stores being the same, but I can imagine the store in the demo to be a "Gap" equivalent and there being some high end tailor silk suits type of stores aswell and if its been answered before i apologize again

Is the vibration on ps3 suppose to be like that because it feels a bit weird and vibrates randomly. Especially when driving.
Also will there be sixaxis support that would be cool

so is he lying or did he get paid to lie? Or was he honestly truthful because someone in here said what we see in the demo is generally what we're going to see in the retail version.
I have another question is the lighting going to get fixed for the PS3 version? It's all dull its good during day time outside but dark warehouse insides can get annoying to look at.

Are there any mandatory install for the PS3 version? If yes, how much space will it require?

    Hey guys!

I have another batch of answers for you from yesterday. Here goes:

What happens if you kill someone and there are no witnesses?
If you kill someone and no one is around to see, likely you won't be "wanted" by the police. Empire Bay is a very busy city, though, so getting that opportunity won't be easy, and if you kill a couple people, chances are someone is going to notice and you won't get away with it.

Will there be SDK release or modding support?
We won't be releasing any official modding tools.

    Can we use public transportation?
The team has talked about this in the past, but public transportation won't be something Vito uses. He has an entire garage of sweet cars, anyway. Why would he take the bus?!

How many sets of clothing are in the game?
There are a bunch of different sets - and you can change aspects of the clothing (like the color of your shirt) which will make the wardrobe even more varied.

How many stores are in the game?
There are over 100 indoor locations in the game, some of which are mission-specific and others that are shops. Shops vary depending on neighborhood and sometimes are neighborhood specific (there is a really posh clothing store in the nice area of town, and you won't find anything like that in other, more rough neighborhoods.)

Can you take your hat off?
Vito wears clothing either with or without a hat - he can't take his hat off if he's chosen an outfit with one. However, Vito does take off his hat during important interactions (you won't see him wearing his hat when it's not polite to do so.)

Can you sit down on chairs and benches?
No, you can't sit down - we focused on the most important aspects of gameplay and made sure those were fun. Being able to sit on chairs didn't rank as high as great driving or gunplay.

Will pre-order cars take up garage slots?
You get an extra garage slot if you have these cars - so yes, they do take up a spot, but you get extras to stash them so it won't impact your overall total.

Will Mafia II have Steam Cloud support?
We don't support this at this time - but it's an awesome feature and I'll let you know if we ever add it in.

Will the PS3 have screen tearing/jaggies? Will there be frame rate problems? Will there be anti-aliasing problems?
For all versions of the game, the demo is largely representative of the final build of the game. There may be slight improvements that you notice for all these issues, but overall, you should judge the demo as you would the final game.

    How will difficulty change gameplay?
When you play Mafia II on hard, things will be more realistic. Your health regeneration, for example, will feel much more lifelike. We don't have more enemies because that didn't make sense within the fiction of the game, but you will find them more challenging on pretty much every level and overall, you will find the combat experience to be much more real than the lower difficulties.

Are there going to be different seasons beyond winter and summer?
The game takes place during a relatively short period of time during winter and summer, so the seasons don't change beyond that. It wouldn't make sense, given how much time elapses.

    When can we expect reviews?
Soon! I'll post them as soon as I see them - although I bet you guys will get to them faster than I can type up a post.

    Are there any load times?
We have minimal loading. When you drive around the city, you won't experience loading, for example.

Will there be snow on the tops of cars in the PS3 version?
    There most certainly will!

    Will guns have recoil?
Guns do have recoil. The demo is a good way to judge how much they have. Having the guns be fun was very important for us, and I think we achieved a good balance - including the amount of recoil.

Will pedestrians react when you point a gun at them?
Some will, some won't. Some might even pull a gun on you.

    3) Motorbikes: Are they included in the game at all?

    5) Vehicle Mods: Is what is in the demo everything you can do to a vehicle? Will window tinting, or even the change of the engine visually ever be added?

    8) Online and Local Multiplayer: Do do these exist and will they ever exist? Some modes are TDM, DM, Racing, Cops vs Mafia, Or general exploring for both online and local.

Make sure that all your posts are in the form of questions and not statements. All repeat questions were removed. - Xardas

Hmmm, does not sound too good. The ps3 version already has some major frame rate and screen tear issues and if taking out grass, blood and clothes movement does not make the fps much better and lowers screen tear then 2k you have SERIOUSLY messed up.

Also, i noticed that when i drive shadows seem to be loading up/ become proper shadows when i'm right next to them, will this be fixed? very noticeable and annoying!

If your post has been deleted its because of one of two things:

    1. Its a loaded question that shouldn't be here.

    2. Its a technical support question that belongs in the Tech forum.

    3.ITS ALREADY BEEN ASKED.

I've already banned several people for not following the rules in this forum. DO NOT POST ANYTHING BUT NEW QUESTIONS HERE. If you have a discussion here, you WILL GET BANNED. I will have the next summary post up in a bit and the previous ones will be updated. Thanks.

How will the snow work? If I leave the garage will there be snow on the roof as soon as I leave the garage or will it slowly fall on the roof?

The question of whether snow will be on the roof of cars was already answered and the answer was yes. Please try to make your questions as general as possible without making a bunch of incredibly specific ones. Liz and the devs have other work to do besides answering these questions so keep the questions as general as you can. Thanks. - Xardas

  22. With regards to stealth kills:

    1) What are the circumstances needed, in order to perform a stealth kill?

    2) If i were to stealth kill a cop, with nobody in particular around, would i be wanted or would be similar to robbing a shop and just attract police backup etc?

  23. #103
We don't know whether they'll fall off slowly, but its a very specific question. The game is coming out in less than 6 days for the NA and 9 days for the UK. You'll see then. - Xardas

Here's the next batch of questions guys:

    44. Will bullets affect dead bodies?
    No, they won’t.
    45. How long do you have to wait before you can go back to a store that you've already robbed without being noticed?
This is something that will vary depending on how you rob the store, what your wanted status is, what you do to the shop owner… But it can be a short or much longer time period.
    46. Can something be fixed about the camera being too close to the player in houses/small shops?
This was a design decision on the part of the team and won’t be changed.
    47. Could an optional first person point of view be added?
This is also a design decision for the team – Mafia II is a third person game, and that’s all it’s intended to be.
    48. In the PS3 version, will bodies become charred when exposed to fire?
Yes, in certain situations there will be charred bodies.
    49. Will Jimmy meet Vito in jail?
    No, he won’t.
    50. Can Jimmy change his clothes?
    Of course!
    51. Will Jimmy be more of a badass than Vito?
They’re both badass in their own ways. One’s a mercenary, and one is rising up the ladder.
    52. Will '40s car be available in the '50s?
Some will be. Any 40s cars that are in your garage will also be available in the 50s.
    53. If you commit a crime in one area, leave, and go back, will the people there recognize you?
If you are still wanted, the police will. You’ll have to get rid of that wanted status first.
    54. Will there be any entertainment like theaters/movie theaters/shows/etc.?
No, there won’t be entertainment-specific locations like movie theaters.
    55. Will there be a Freeride mode outside of the game?
No – Mafia II is a story-based game and that was what we focused on and the experience we really wanted to immerse players in.
    56. Will we have multiple garages?
You have 10 slots in your garage (more if you have the preorder cars so that you can fit those cars!) but you can access this garage in different areas throughout the city.
    57. Can we choose the control layouts for the PC or console versions by binding certain keys/buttons to controls?
Yes – you can customize your PC controls. There may be a couple set ups that don’t work (depending on how differently you like to configure your controls – I’ve seen some interesting ones in my time here.) You can test out the bindings in the demo, and if you can’t do something you want to, let me know in a PM or email – I’ll tell the team.
    58. How many buildings can we enter in the game?
    There are over 100 locations.
    59. Can we turn off dynamic perspective for a high speed in simulation mode in the future?
No – Again, this is a design question, and not something we were aiming for.
    60. Will the game support force feedback steering wheels? (It doesn't in the demo)
Not at this time – good idea though, I’ll tell the team!
    61. Will there be cheats in the console or PC versions of Mafia 2?
    No, there won’t.
    62. Do any of the Playboy centerfolds have full frontals?
These are authentic centerfolds – and Playboy is a pretty classy magazine! You won’t see full frontals.
    63. Does this person actually work for Massive Bear or is it an imposter:

    Hey guys,

MassiveBearDev1 is not a member of the Massive Bear team. His IP confirmed his is an already existing member of our forums who is now permanently banned.

Trolling is not okay on these forums. And slandering the good names of people who worked hard on this game is going to make me very angry and get you banned.

Needless to say, this statement is false.

    64. Will there be different models for clothing store interiors, or will they be replicas?
There are several different kinds - you may see "chains" of sorts in different areas, but there are definitely distinct stores with different looks.
    65. Will there be sixaxis support?
    No, there won’t.
    66. Will lighting be fixed for the PS3 version?
The lighting in the demo is how it will be in the full game – if you think there’s a problem with your lighting, please send me an email or PM and I’ll have the team take a look.
    67. Can you swim?
Quote Originally Posted by 2K Denby View Post

    70. Are any voice actors in Mafia 2 from Mafia 1?
    Yes, there are. ;-)
    71. Can you smoke?
Not at any point while you are playing the game, but Vito does smoke in some key points.
    72. Is there a mandatory install for the PS3 version. If so, how much space will it require?
It’s a very small install – less than 100 megs.
    73. Will motorbikes be in the game?

    74. Will there be any multiplayer features in the future?
Mafia II is a story-based experience and we focused on the single player, story-based gameplay. However, we will have leaderboard support in upcoming DLC.
    75. Will there be a stats list in the menu?
    Yes, there will.
    76. Is there a way to reclaim a vehicle that was in your garage after it has been destroyed?
Yes- vehicles that are stored in your garage are insured, so you will get them back.
    77. When I drive, the shadows don't spawn until I'm right next to them. Will this be fixed?
The shadows in the demo for all versions are the same as in the game. If there’s a problem you are having, PM or email me and I’ll talk to the team about it.
    78. What are the circumstances needed to perform a stealth kill? If I stealth kill a cop, will I immediately become wanted like if I shot them?
If you stealth kill a police officer, you won’t become wanted – but that’s difficult to do. You have to make sure no one sees you, and Empire Bay is a busy city.

Don't worry bud, I personally go through this entire thread and copy down every single answer in a separate document. I then make absolutely sure that Liz answers every single question you guys ask as long as they aren't loaded or repeats. That's why I moderate this thread so intensely, I don't want to have to look through spam and add a question to my document that's already been asked. So please, no discussions/comments/reposts in this thread because I'm VERY thorough and your question WILL be asked sooner or later. Thanks for your consideration. - Xardas

I looked around a bit, but could not find an answer to this...
Is there a way to remove the nudie magazines? I have a 14 year old nephew that wants to play, but his parents are giving me grief because of the playboy centerfolds.

If there isn't a specific way to remove them, is it possible to hack them out (I plan on buying the steam version) by replacing those particular art assets?

I'll leave the question in, but considering this is an official forum, Liz will just tell you that a 14 year old isn't supposed to be playing a Mature game anyway. - Xardas

Hi Liz! I think it's great you're doing this. I was playing the demo and noticed that at some places in the mission I died a few times. So my question is: what difficulty setting was used on the demo? Thanks!

  39. Any news as to when these questions will get answered? Its just i have stuff i need to do. But my question is: I noticed that in the demo, weapons could hold only a certain amount of ammo (as you'd expect). But for the Thompson i found this ammo stock to be very limited, is there a way in which the player could extend that ammo amount? (Obviously not limiting this question to the Thompson)

Liz already answered this and I'm sure you've read it at least once. The demo is representative of the final version of the game. She said that the grass isn't as prominent in the PS3 version as in other versions, but she hasn't explicitly commented on the other features. I'm sure that there is a reason for this, so you'll just have to wait until she elaborates or until the game comes out on the 24th/27th of next week. I know what you're going through because I'm getting the PS3 version as well, so you'll just have to wait like everyone else. Thanks. - Xardas
