Thread: Upgraded to Quad core.

    Upgraded to Quad core.

Hello hey I got a question to Devs or whomever can answer.

I had an Athlon X2 245 dual core CPU running at 2.9ghz. I upgraded today to a quad core Athlon II 635 also running at 2.9ghz.

I got no increase in performance whatsoever in the demo.Windows shows all 4 cores are active and it seem to have boosted BF2 and GTA4.

    Now to my question.
Do I need to reinstall the demo or is it just not utilizing all 4 cores. DO I need to reinstall windows entirely for the quad to take full effect?

So what im actually wonder is, should I try and solve it or is it just a waste of my time, and I should just wait for the final game. Im kind of a newbie when it comes to computers and stuff(bought a gaming computer ONLY because of maFia2 release date coming closer and closer

Have a good one and hope for an answer!

You should upgraded your GPU instead of CPU ... Mafia II uses GPU more than CPU

well it says its recommended to have a quad core. I will however exchange my ATI HD4850 512mb card for an GeForce GTX460 768MB this week.

BUT I lower my graphic settings and resolution to 1024x768 when I did my CPU comparision. Even with physX on the fps is exactly the same. which I tought was wierd.

    Nevermind I am an retard.

1x core active for the game = 20fps
2x core active for the game = 37-41fps
And this was what it was running at when I typed it.

and with 4x core active for the game = 52 fps.

This test was done standing still at a place with alot of cars and npcs passing the screen. facing a road with a long view down to other block.

Edit: (The fps didnt go down when I started to drive around either)
    50fps+ ingame FPS goal reached.

    hardware: ATI HD4580 512mb, 2GB 1066mhz DDR2, Athlon II 635@2.9ghz.

    1920x1080, no antialiasing,

false, all the fiziks falls on CPU (at least now).

sunspot78, u won't get any better with current game release.

People, are u mad? Upgrade from ATI HD4850 is a waste of money. U will get +25% at best.

Dude, in what era do you live? They released the update that uses GPU instead of CPU for PhysX...

and for many of us it never defaulted to the cpu in the first place. I got 24 fps running it on gpu and 16 fps running on cpu right after the demo was released.

um no he didn't. By the specs he listed he would have been much better off upgrading his ram.

Windows 7 also shares RAM with your graphics card and lets fsce it 512mb of video memory is paltry and not capable of keeping alot of the hi-res games textures in memory.

My advice would be as follows:

Upgrade your ram to at least 4GB (if you have two 1gb sticks then buy a another set for like 60 bucks) everything will go faster as the game will use your RAM instead of your pagefile and your graphics card will have access to more RAM for loading textures.

Upgrade your graphics card. clock (core, memory and shader) is important but whats more important now adays is the amount of memory the graphic card has. Try to find one with at least 1gb of memory.
