    REspawns

hmm I noticed recently, that even if you cleared a level, there will still be alot of respawns. Right atm of stuck at front of fountaine's office(with the elevator)

Problem is that I can't reach the third floor to get the keycode for the elevator from a diary meh.... thats why I wander and noticed this fact.
Anyhow, do you like it? + can somebody help me out please

Stupid question from me? Did you hit " H " for a hint. I am way past that point and am not sure @ elevator.

Its a carry-over from SS2, but still a good thing.

It keeps you on your toes, makes the game more tense and forces you to manage your ammunition better.

However, the game doesn't kick the arse out of respawning enemies like SS2 did.

I love respawns, good way to build up cash and ammo.

I personally hope there comes a mod to turn the respawning off. Why?

    a) the respawning happens in the silliest places sometimes
    b) it breaks immersion when splicers appear in places of which you know its not possible for them to get there
    c) it can get annoying when you got stuck and are looking around to get slowed down by respawn enemies
    d) it stops me from properly exploring and admiring the surroundings because I always have to look around to see if they respawned

and most of all for me personally:

    e) it doesn't give me a feeling of accomplishment since the splicers keep reappearing. There's no sense of having "cleaned up" an area.

red_avatar speaks the truth - I'm also hoping that there's a mod to eliminate respawn or at least reduce it (Make it only happen from corpses, and then, only one per corpse would be best in my opinion) . For those that like the constant killing/arcade style splicer dropping, let it be an option; but a mod to eliminate respawn would be great as an option.

I love respawning enemies. As long as it does not get over done. It gets a bit boring if there are no enemies because the game starts to feel like it has no life in it. This sometimes happens in games where enemies do not respawn but not Bioshock because they do respawn.

A function where you can adjust enemy respawn would be great as it pleases everyone, SS2 had one I remember.

Yes the respawning could bre reduced after installing the last patch. Irrational should have remembered why they made this possible: System Shock 2 had a lot of people asking for the same thing. People complained that if they got stuck, the respawning meant that they would run out of ammo.

While Bioshock is better in this respect (they hold money, ammo and health), the respawning feels like a bit of a nuisance. It's not done in a realistic manner so it doesn't actually make the game more immersive, and I found the surroundings to be very alive due to the sounds and animations so a lack of respawning splicers wouldn't make the game feel dead.

Besides, the spawning is far too random - I killed a splicer, and 2 secs later I got attacked by the exact same one that respawned, except he came from a sideroom that had no way in or out so how did he get there? It really felt so artificial.

Respawn is like Levelscaling or Random Loot. Good vor Gamedesigner/programmer and bad for immersive Gameplay.

No freedom while you are exploring Rapture, ACTION-ACTION-ACTION and ACTION. Respawn is more action and NOT more Gameplay!

Nail hit on head. Agree 100%. I like to have time to explore the areas in peace once I've cleaned them up.

Bioshock needs MORE difficulty, not less. It's already immensely easy on hard :/

I wouldn't mind the respawning being buffed considerably.

I ADORE the respawns. Adds quite a bit more realism. I love the fact that even the developers don't know which full game each player will have.

More difficulty yes but not by using the same enemies over and over again, this isn't the 80's.

Their should be more inherent difficulty, no vita chambers and less health packs not just layers of dumb enemies spawning in cupboards... immersion counts for ☺☺☺☺ when that happens.

Then punish yourself? Play it on hard, and if you die, waste all your eve and health packs or something.

Wow.. I can't wait till all games make us do the job the game designer and playtesters get paid (by us) to do, yeah sure sounds like a 10/10 game to me

Hey people have been thinking of challenge modes for a long time. You should see the ones for Final Fantasy VII

i like the big daddy respawns cause the game makes it ook like they are just wondering around. But when in arcadia in place you have to defend the place was empty, then a big daddy suddenly walked past out of nowere

btw - I'm kinda purposely being down on this generally great game in a lot of areas at the moment. I'm attepting to 'de-hype' myself (I've only played up to the Bar part after neptunes bounty)... the small problems (which add up) i'm hoping will be fixed in the patch.

I will then go back and start the game from scratch with LOW expectations and hopefully enjoy it all the more.

I'm not reading any reviews for a game i've anticipated so much (before playing it myself) in the future. they made it sound like the second coming in almost all the reviews I read and no one mentioned the rough around the edges feel and lack of polish.

So please don't take me seriously i'm just burned out on this whole Bioshock thing right now (as a PC gamer, maybe not if i'd bought it for my 360) and I'm a bit pissed if such a high profile title is a sign of things to come for PC gaming.

I'm sure the game itself is pretty cool if I could just play it without mouse, sound, animation and other issues.

That's the problem I have with the game. You got a magnificent design of a game, yet you constantly feel rushed because the splicers are pretty silent so you have to constantly look back to see if there wasn't some respawn. I want action, but I want to also have a chance to get a breather, enjoy the immersion, look around, look for details. I just can't enjoy that when I get hammered with weak as piss splicers. They don't even pose a real challenge, so what's the point besides annoying you?

Yes I agree the game is too easy - but how does respawning splicers which carry ammo make it harder? Make the bastards tougher, and drop the respawning. Then you'll need to scavenge more for ammo and money instead of just hanging around and whacking splicers around the head for free money and ammo. If you ask me, the respawning makes it easier, not harder.
