    out of range

Everytime I try to start the demo, my screen turns black and blue square appears in the right upper corner with message "Attention out of range". The problem is that default resolution is too high for my 15" monitor. Is there any .ini file with settings? That's not the only game with such problem, but usually I manage to fix this through .ini or .cfg file with settings. Aaand no, launching through steam with -width and -height parameters didn't work. Why it doesn't have normal launcher wich allows to go to settings menu without launching the game? Yeah, I know my monitor is waaay old, but I don't want to change it.

Try the controll panel option of your gpu
and then somewere in that panel you can
ad programs to the controll panel were you
after you have ad them you can force the game to run with lower resolution
and you can change other graphics stuff there too.

This will not work. I've tried it. We need a command line to make it open in window mode or in 1024x768 forced resolution.

right click on the game exe properties and then compability check run in 640x480. Then change the resolution in game. Go back and Uncheck the box.

You should be golden. I sure these's some preference ini in the game folder you could prob edit but this is likeiest the easiest way.

I'm having the exact same error. I've tried everything I can think of short of throwing the Kitchen Sink at it. My monitor is a Gateway FPD1730 LCD VGA Monitor. My Computer is a AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ @ 3GHz, 2 GB of DDR2 800MHz RAM, an ATi Radeon HD 4650 with 512MB GDDR3 and a 1TB HDD with W7 Ultimate x64.

Because I felt bad for you. I did some digging and found the configfile.

if you type within the explorer bar: %USERNAME%\AppData\Local\2K Games\Mafia II\Saves

it will direct you to the save games folder. Within that folder is a file called videoconfig.cfg. Open it with notepad.

Within that file will be something like:
    0 0 1680 1050 1 0 0 1

    if you change it to:
    0 0 640 480 0 0 0 0

Save the file. Exit notepad. Attempt to run the game from steam.

Let me know if this solves your problems.

EDIT: if the file/folder doesn't exist create it.

Dude i don't have the " %USERNAME%\AppData\Local\2K Games\Mafia II\Saves " even if i go on search or top of the line of folder 2K Games... i've got Windows 2000... Can you manage me and help me, i really wanna play this game... Thanks in furter!
