    ''Is any of this...familiar?''

My apologies if this has been discussed before...if it has, moderators feel free to close this thread buuuut....

After quite some numerous playthroughs of my Bioshock 2 since it came out...and after some more recent playthroughs....everytime when I get to the plasmid showroom part of Fontaine Futuristics, and Alex the Great asks Delta ''Does any of this look familiar'' or whatever....I can't help but think it would have been cool to see some flashbacks ''Johnny Topside's'' early days as Delta...I think it would be kind of like the encounter with Ryan in Bioshock 1 when Ryan said ''familiar phrase?'' then Jack/you had flashbacks of all the times ''Atlas'' said ''Would you kindly''

Does anyone agree?? Or just what does anyone else think???

The main difference is that we actually played through all the instances when Atlas asks "Would You Kindly?" we don't do that as Johnny Topside, so no, in my opinion I don't think it should have worked like that.

that's true...but I'm talking about seeing flashbacks of Topside's EARLY DAYS AS SUBJECT DELTA,and NOT as himself, firing off plasmids for an audience

Again though, we never experienced that ourselves, I could be wrong but I'm sure one of the themes of these games is that you are Jack or you are Delta, showing you a flashback of something you have never really experienced would not fit.

I guess....but....after doing a search...I found a link to what SEEMS to be a legit Bioshock 2 script that someone else had posted somewhere on the forum...and it seems that we were indeed suppose to be see a flashback of Johnny Topside ''performing'' at Fontaine Futuristics

Honestly, in my opinion, a ghost scene would have been perfect for what you are suggesting, if only they were in the game.

I think a flashback would make more sense thana ghost scene though, because a ghost scene would have to happen BEFORE Alex the Great asks Delta ''is this familiar to you? '', and not after, while a flashback could happen right after he asks Delta that question...besides it wouldn't make sense for Alex the Great to ask Delta that, and then BOOM,Delta sees a ghost sequence out of nowhere

Actually I agree with Adam Addict L to some extent. It would have been interesting to know more about Sub D. Now that I think about it, it would have made the story a lot more powerful if we did know more about him and maybe had some flashbacks.
    I miss the ghosts too.

I don't think it would have worked, personally. We already go ahead and actually do the plasmid demonstration, we don't really need to see some photos of the exact same thing before we even start, lol!

With the first game's flashbacks and the one's whilst Lamb talks to you, they're reflecting on stuff you've done to bring it up for some sort of point.. either WYK the revelation in the first game, or Sofia reflecting on your "acts of gospel" and how they've influenced Eleanor.

The point of reflecting on something you're already about to do anyway, though? Not really anything in specific there.

By contrast, I do agree a ghost scene could have worked wonders. It would have really made the atmosphere to see a bustling crowd gathered around some windows to see someone shooting flames for the first time down in Rapture... or seeing Fontaine present company welcome speech or something... so many awesome images they could have stuck in there but decided to leave it up to our own imaginations instead.

But I may be somewhat bias: I loved the ghost scenes and was really disappointed to not see any in game.

except in our ''demonstration'' as Delta,we get to do whatever we want...but in the flashback from the script that I read from,we would have seen "Johnny Topside" being pumped full of ADAM/Plasmids and basically being forced to put on a demonstration, shooting fire and electricity from his hands and mouth and what-not...so I think it could have worked

I don't think that could look profoundly different besides the fact that we might start off tied down a bit.

Anyway, I realise how it is looking for these scripts... digging up the old threads is a bit tedious, but if you have it on hand I would love to see.

hhere you go: http://www.scribd.com/doc/27580404/Bioshock-2 the flashback of Johnny Topside putting on a demonstration actually happens at the part where Delta meets Tenenbaum in the script...but I still think it would have been cool to see it at the point in the game I mentioned before

That would've been a great cutscene... they don't say anything like that in the game, really. They sorta... depended on you to just know these things based on what the devs said...

Yes, I do agree with you, although the flashbacks would have to be uber brief and to the point, in order to pique our curiosity and create a sense of mystery, unlike Eleanor's annoying telepathic messages.

I also agree with this, but I also think that's why a ghost scene would have worked better. They were always brief glimpses just to pique curiosity, add some mystery... and far less cringe-worthy than some random interference from Eleanor's talking telepathic eyes who tell the story rather than just showing us how it unfolds for ourselves to piece together.

I didn't like those moments where we were frozen listening to Eleanor, Ghost Scenes are more suitable.

I do not believe it would fit in to the game very well, for the reasons others have stated.

well technically you are shown a flash back to when you were turned into an Alpha series after you kill Meltzer in Gill Alexander's lair. So seeing a flash back in Fauntain Futuristics doesn't seem too out of the question. You already get a moment like the one described in Bioshock as Eleanor explains how she brought you back. If done correctly those types of sequences are very powerful, that's what made me love Biohsock the first time I played it and got to that point where Ryan says "would you kindly...A powerful phrase..familiar phrase?" and you flash to all the times Atlas says would you kindly at that point everything was clicking in my mind.
But anyway more on to topic, I don't think it would be necessary to do nor was it necessary it would have been cool if done correctly but other than that I wouldn't really see any practical use other than to tell the player who they are which can be helpful but in the end that's not really Bioshock 2's style. I think what they wanted with the sequel was to tell the player as little about themselves as possible so they could relate to the character more. Or it could have been bad writing.
