Game crashes when loading Neptune's bounty

    Hi,

Bioshock is the first game I buy in many year, I have been waiting for it with high expectations.

However, when going to Neptune's bounty, my game always crashes straight to the desktop.

I have looked at other threads in this forum, but could not find a solution similar to mine, at least not that has helped me.

The crash happens when the game is loading the Neptune's bounty inside a teleporter (the first one I have seen in the game), right after me killing the first big daddy. So basically this happens the game loads the 2nd level in the game.

I am therefore totally stuck and I can't get any further than the first level.

PS: The changes I make in the game options (graphic detail, resolution, audio, etc) do not persist between play sessions.

    My specs are as follows:
    Core 2 Duo E6400
    Gigabyte 965P-DS3
    BFG NVIDIA GeForce 8800GTS
    Kingston 2GB DDR2 800MHz
    X-FI XtremeMusic
    Windows XP SP 2

    Game was installed via Steam

I have tried both the new NVidia beta drivers (163.44) and 162.18
I have also tried lowering all the graphics in the menu.
I have tried to disable all non-windows services via sysconf utility

    What could be the problem?

    Regards,

Sadly, you're probably not going to get any help around here.

I wish I could lend a hand, since my game crashes trying to load the first level, but unfortunately I'm still trying to fix my own, similar problem.

crap, so what can I do?

There should be someone at 2K, a customer service or something which should be able to help me?

You could try sending an email, or calling one of the customer help lines.

I am in Europe, what is the email?

I only found USA@Take2Support.com and canada@take2support.com, where should I send my email?

Calling them is out of the question.

    I found the following works:

when loading anything ( save game, new level etc ),

    1. turn off ALL graphics features
    2. load the game
    3. turn the features back on

Oh, and after any crash, you must reboot your computer before attempting to resume play, as I guess there is some 'debris' left around in the system which confuses bioshock.exe from correctly loading again.

Thanks, but that did not work for me

Crap, this is really getting frustrating.

Wow , turning off graphics options before loading the game does allow the game to start this level !

I'm experiencing this same issue, except that I have the retail version of BioShock, so reinstalling Steam won't have any effect for me.

I've tried various combinations of all the different settings in the game, disabling virus scanners, firewalls etc. I even went as far as removing my saved games and starting a new game. Nothing has worked. Every time I reach the Bathysphere, use the lever to activate the level change, & select Neptune's bounty, a loading screen shows up for about 30 seconds then I get a crash to the desktop. I beginning to think that I'm yet another victim of 2K's over-zealous copy protection system.

    My specs are as follows:
    AMD X2 4400+ (2.2Ghz)
    DFI Lanparty UT NF4 SLI-D
MSI NVIDIA GeForce 7900GTO (running 163.44 beta drivers)
    Corsair 1GB DDR
    X-FI Fatal1ty
Windows XP Pro SP 2 (August 2007 DirectX 9 release)
All other drivers are up to date.

Oh, and that constantly resetting to default settings upon a crash is exceedingly annoying.
