Aren't we ruining the game?

I have taken a few days off these forums, but I have to say ever since I joined these forums a couple of weeks ago, I have encountered SO many spoilers. Once I learned that I have seen roughly 23% of the games story I nearly kicked my computer.

All these "Ooo look chapter 11,12,14 gameplay videos WOOOO!!!" threads are stupid. I know we are all eager to see Mafia 2, but whats the point of seeing a chunks of the game and when we play were like "Oh yea I remember this from that spoiler"

Its kind of dumb. I'm really hyped for this game too, but all these threads and info from all these sites that people find are killing the game.

One would be lying if they denied that the game isn't being ruined for them.

So people lets suck it up and wait till this damned demo.

You are absolutely right. Mafia for example i knew nothing about it nor did i know anyone who had it so it was a plesant experience

Spoilers are a tricky subject generally speaking the information released isn't supposed to be enough to ruin the game. On the flip side you cannot come to the Official Game Forum and not expect to see a ton of information. Just be careful what threads you read if you are wanting a pure experience of the game. Because some people don't mind seeing a lot of information and it will continue to be talkded about on the forums.

this is getting ridiculous. everyone should just chill out and wait 9 days for the demo to be released and then play that to death. i wonder if you will be able to fill up a car with gas in the demo? i sure hope so...don't see why you shouldn't be able to

That's something that shouldn't be happening. However, like FtRapture said, as long as people warn others about spoilers and use spoiler tags, then its allowed on the forum. After all, alot of people obviously don't mind watching spoilers. I'm kind of on the fence; I really like to see new information and gameplay because I've been waiting since I first heard rumours about Mafia 2 back in 2003 when they said they were working on it, but the producer quit, etc. etc. Then when I see the new videos with even minor spoilers, I start to feel guilty lol.

But yeah, no one should be putting spoiler information that isn't tagged in unrelated threads.

I havent spoiled nething because the entire game mainly revolves around the story so no i have not looked at any gameplay footage and am absolutely clueless when it comes to the story itself.

Im mainly just looking foward to the freeroam in this game.

Not rocket science to stop watching videos and reading threads that contain spoilers. It's your own fault. Some people like to know a little about the game before playing it. We have been waiting for years to play this game and finally get a few things to give us a taste for the game to keep us waiting. If you don't like whats going on not hard to click the Log Out button.

Whoa buddy, I've read 80% of spoilers on threads unrelated/questionaire threads. I'm a Mafia 2 fan so I'm on the Mafia forums, because I like Mafia. It has gotten past "a little about" people are spoiling a whole bunch of things. Thats just my two cents on this whole spoiling thing. 9 or 10 so days aint long.

The more spoilers I've seen the more I want this game, I guess it's a matter of preference, as I mentioned somewhere else, the only spoiler I would not want to see is the ending, and since I live in the UK I will not be getting the game until the 27th, so from the 24th it would be nice if some people could contain their ethusiasm by not giving it away on the forum.

I agree with the OP, and it not only goes for this game, but for any game or movie, I just can't understand the people that continually watch footage with lots of spoilers, what's the point of playing a game or watching a movie if you already know what's going to happen?

I agree with OP which is why i am a little hesitant to read any more articles (besides professional reviews as you can guarantee they won't spoil anything).

because the other day i was reading something 'Vito Scaletta' (the forum member) posted and i started to read something in a article he linked to that was a spoiler so i sent him a PM to post SPOILER near that article and then he did. (don't worry he did not do it on purpose. it was just a mistake )

so basically i am going to completely avoid any more gameplay videos (unless it's Demo related) and avoid any non-professional articles/reviews from here on out til the games release because i don't mind knowing a little about the game (i.e. stuff related to the Demo level etc) but i don't want to know to much about the story either.

so the bottom line to everyone...

don't watch any more gameplay videos (unless it's Demo related since those are safe) or non-professional articles/reviews if you want to not risk spoiling to much as you can guarantee if you read damn near everything post in these forums you WILL run into stuff that you would rather not know about.

Well if it's a higher quality movie (or game) that you can watch again and again it won't matter to much if you know what happens because you can watch quality movies again and again and still like them even know you know what happens...

...BUT as far as initial experience that i will completely agree with you there as that can be ruined which is ultimately why i am going to avoid as much non-professional articles and non-demo gameplay footage as possible from here on out since it seems more and more stuff about the game is coming out and spoiler stuff is starting to become much more common now over this last week or so.

so from the 24th it would be nice if some people could contain their ethusiasm by not giving it away on the forum.

i can guarantee you i won't ruin anything. but i am SURE you will get some people who WILL ruin it for you. so my advice is to avoid these forums pretty much completely until you have completely played the game this way no matter what anyone says you have nothing to worry about.

in fact, even though the game is out the 24th here i am pretty much going to avoid these forums until i beat the game most likely.

yea i understand you guys.. i also know too much about the game..
i think i know 5 chapters now.. ( and many details about the story from reviews etc ) ..its all my fault but what to do.. i wish i could clear my mind before i start the game..

I completely agree. I know next to nothing about the game (and i loved the first game) as i havent watched any videos. I watched the first official trailer that was released and thats all i've seen. I've looked through alot of threads here but not seen that much, no real spoilers at all. I dont see the point in seeing in advance who is going to die, whats going to happen etc before you even play it it just ruins it knowing that. Im going to preorder the game, play the demo to see how it plays and thats it. I'll find out the rest when i get the game

If you want no spoilers what so ever then definately avoid the forums around release date as trolls like to post major spoilers in thread titles (eg for Bioshock there was a thread titled Atlas is Fontaine (spoiler tag just in case )) Some people like to see all the videos that are released in advance while others prefer to see nothing at all. If you dont want to be spoiled, dont watch vids or read obvious spoiler threads. Its fine if people have the decency to at least mark things as spoilers but theres always trolls who dont..

Bethesda did it right on their forums by creating a section for spoilers, cheats, hints and so on, members could only post spoilers in that section.

this way it would make less clutter and stuff for regular people who have not played the game and can stick to a certain section of the forums.

then the other one WITH spoilers can be for the people who have played the game and basically anything is free to talk about in there

lol yeah, I don't get these people who say that there are too much spoilers. But hey nobody forced them to register to this forum or read those kind of threads. I mean very often you can see, by the thread's title, if it's spoiler-free or not. But then when they see the material, they will wine and ***** like they were being possessed and forced to read the thread in question

Just be careful what you read. Posting spoilers in the thread title is totally out of line though, and there have been at least one of those if memory serves. As time goes on, its gonna get harder and harder to do so, just use your best judgment.
