    the great level editor poll

This is something we are looking into – Irrational has enjoyed great relationships with the mod community on previous titles like FF and SWAT. At this time, we don’t have a definitive answer.
so... if there is going to be an editor, would you do some levels on your own/with some friends? and if yes, what would you like to do... (plz specify )?

Yes, yes I would do some levels. And I can't really say till the game is out and I've played through it.
I currently build for NWN2 (Never Winter Nights 2) So, I'm used to doing things on a gigantic scale, but very detailed. I like building things.

    Later,

Well, I've never used the Unreal Editor... But I HOPE I can get the hang of it pretty quick. I think I do have an old copy of the original Unreal someplace, does that have an editor with it? Something I could practice on maybe?

I would pick up either UnrealTournament2003 or 2004 for few bucks (~10$/10€). These games use the Unreal Engine 2 (Bioshock uses a modified UE3).

I don't care about the editor. The only game I loved and love to do maps for is DOOM. All those 'full' 3D engines take too much time as for me.

I would be it for my own project or part of a bigger mod. love making maps for SP games, avp2, nolf2, Deus ex, half life2 , Fear, Far-Cry well you get the idea.

Hopefully it can't be any more awkward to use than Dromed so I'd be all over it

As to what exactly I'd do...who knows. "something" ;p

Nah - I first got into custom mapping with the original Doom game, and quit before it took over my life.

    Modding / Community / Development / SDK?

    Hey there all,

First up lots of compliments! I've been pleasantly surprised (and a bit shocked) about the scope of the project and everything that I've seen so far about the game. Everything leads up to me being pretty excited about it.

Currently working on our Total Conversion for Doom 3 and always keeping an eye out for alternative engines we are also closely looking at Bioshock. In that regard, I'm pretty excited to hear about possible modding capabilities in the engine and how 'modding' comes into the development of Bioshock. Will there eventually be an SDK and perhaps a dedicated modding site?

I can imagine lots of huge changes in this engine that could be very interesting for modders such as me. And Bioshock is definately one to look out for us, depending on how 'mod' friendly it is.

    Cheers,

    Bastian

Most important ones I'ld have right now:

Will there be an SDK and will there be a special modding section or site?
Is the team already implementing certain features for modders to use, like easy to use (not crash proned) editors?

Some things in the current incarnation of the engine are a pain in the a$. A great example of this is the AF editor for editing ragdolls (articulated figures). How important is the development of the game v.s. the development of the developer tools?

From what I've gathered. UE3 will be highly moddable (like UE2 was). General UE3 modding tools (when they're released) might work fine with Bioshock as its built on UE3. I'm neither a modder nor a developer, so someone more knowladgeable in those fields can clarify my assumptions.

the mapping tools should work if they're similar to the (gld)/source engine mp builder in which you have a data file for each type of game that the editor reads and uses the info to make a map compatible with the game.

bioshock is on a heavily modified Unreal 3 engine, so for basic mapping it will work, but for all the modded stuff i dunno.

im kinda under the impression that the devs want the game to be easily modded as good mods usually help with getting a game sold (word of mouth eg: "hey, have you got perfect dark source? its really good. u need hl2 to play though"!)

and welcome to the forums Rayne
