Where does she say that exactly? I just finished a few days ago, but don't remember. Possibly either because Delta used to be "Johnny Topside" who found Rapture or because he was pretty much the only adult she knew outside of her mother's influence.
It was around when you free her and I think she is in the big sister gear hmm yes I found. Very interesting
Do you mean this?
"Mother says that my condition is a blessing in disguise; she constantly reminds me that I was born for the express purpose of promoting her ideals. And now she's trying to convince me to begin splicing with the same cocktail that drove Dr. Alexander mad! She thinks that my condition makes me immune to the damage... The surface is my only chance at freedom. But mother took the one person I knew from above and murdered him in front of my eyes... Father. If I could only find a way to bring him back..."
Delta= Johnny topside
Johnny topside = from the surface
Yeah that’s about it *shrug*

Maybe that's it lol I'm so confused now can't recall what part I heard thanks tho
I agree with Manic. Maybe he was the closest she'd ever been to being on the outside.

I don't agree with that.
I took it more as a "You kill my father from the surface in front of me" thing.
You have to remember that in the original story, Delta actually was her father, hence this phrase, but I think it still carries over into the new story; making Delta Eleanor's biological father. It adds depth to a pretty shallow plot
The reason for the script error is simple! In the beginning stages of BS2's storyline, Eleanore and Johnny Topside were traveling together in a plane or boat, and Sophia had their transportation shot down for the express purpose of kidnapping Eleanore and taking her for the Utopia project. Don't ask me how, I didn't write it, but somehow Sophia knew Eleanore had the perfect genes or something.
Of course, the story was DRAMATICALLY changed a couple of months before release so we have this... A pile of confusing story and script that doesn't make much sense either way because of the jumbled mess.
Honestly, that is the only reason for her to associate Delta to the surface. I would like to see a better explanation (one based in reality and not conceptual excuses).
I don't think Delta is Eleanor's biological father (possible unlikely). Like she said at point, "Love is a chemical. We give it meaning."
Who Eleanor's biological father is is unimportant. Only the meaning she and Delta give their bond.
I just think the whole quote goes, I agree with ManicSheep. "Johnny Topside" was never really a part of Rapture. He just stumbled upon it one day.
I don't think it was meant to be a strong suggestion that they were related or had anything to do with each other before Delta...well become Delta. If you didn’t know that they were going to make them related in the original story using that line to say that they are is a big stretch. Yes in the original story it was going to be clear that they were related and that could explain why some of the lines seem as tho they can be taken either way but the original version was thrown out so isn’t really all that relevant to the new story.
I think I remember form somewhere (sorry I can't remember where so this is pretty unreliable) that the "love is just a chemical” speech had a few other versions. One where you clearly where her father and one where you clearly weren’t (she says something like "I know you’re not my real father") so they did play with both angles.
I think in the end they left it fairly ambiguous with nothing really solid either way ( I think 2k is leaving things ambiguous to often to be honest)
I also think making Delta her biological father would have actually made the plot alot shallower not added depth tho obviously that’s just my opinion.

I just realized that this entire line is a MAJOR goof. Think about it... When did Eleanor EVER go to the surface in the story we have now? She was created/born in Rapture and raised by various people within Rapture. Even if she DID go to the surface, what friend from the surface came down to Rapture with her, and also had to watch die?
"...But mother took the one person I knew from above and murdered him in front of my eyes... Father. If I could only find a way to bring him back..."
HUGE mistake! How would she know ANYONE from above!?
And who exactly does she find a way to bring back to life?! Her Father... The story was rapidly changed in a matter of a couple months before the game's release. I feel the holes everywhere but this right here is actual proof of how suddenly changing the story like that screwed stuff up on levels we can't even imagine.

Yeah ... I never knew why Eleanor threw such a hissy fit about the fact that Delta was the one person that she knew from the surface. OK, Johnny Topside was a surface dweller. So what? Topside is gone, and Delta has replaced him. His past (of which he knows nothing) will not help you, girly.![]()
She constantly calls Delta "Father". It is annoying as heck. Sometimes I just wanna yell "I AIN'T YOUR DADDY!". Is that a hole in the plot, or just the Pairbond's lasting effects on her brain?
i think she meant meltzer? correct me if im wrong...
The surface is kind of the untouchable place to someone born in Rapture right? So just having ONE person that has been there before, knows what goes on up there, someone to hold their hand as you traverse the great unknown. I think that is why she was so enamored with the idea of someone, anyone, from the surface being able to assist her.
