anyway...i think in terms of gameplay it looks a lot like gta iv
but where it sets itself apart is that it is heavily story driven and more immersive

id say this is a hybrid game of gta iv and uncharted lol

And anyone who isn't from any English speaking country can use any words they like. American style is probably the most used because of TV, games etc. but we get influences from others as well.

Of course comparing the two is okay up to a certain point. The games are still very different and this should be kept in mind when comparing them.

When someone says Mafia 2 is GTA in the fifties, people here get mad because it isn't. And everyone and their dog is saying that.

I agree with mcgee and this thread

coming from a hardcore GTA fan, this is not GTA4 or any other sandbox game for that matter

    It's mafia2.

This game has freeroaming but it focuses mainly on the story whereas GTA4 relys on freeroaming more then storytelling.

    Truth is this

Freeroaming is better to do in GTA4
Singleplayer story is going to be better in Mafia2

I guess as we get closer to release date more people will understand that Mafia II isn't another GTA clone. I even saw some reviewers realizing that, so there is still hope for M2 to become one of the highest rated games this year, and receive the credit it deserves.

The demo will be a huge eye opener. People will be like "whoah, these cutscenes actually have story in them in stead of some guy just talking some random s**t for two minutes and then sending you kill some gang members for no real reason or connection to the story."

No really, do to Mafia 2 amazing open world.
    But i get your point.

this game is not GTA in the 50's but it is Assassins Creed 1 in the 50's

open world but with liner story

    no multiplayer

    and cant swim

they just used updated technology (guns instead of swords) and a different group (Mafia instead of assassins)

    what a load of ****

Who in the **** compared (asscream)assassins creed to mafia2!?

The only thing both games have in common is that you can freeroam.

    Their are
No!!! ****ing horses or swords in Mafia2

Vito wont be taking it up the ass in mafia2

By the sound of this game it does seem abit like assassins creed, i mean nothing more than story the mainstream game play is no different. Its an open world game that is based mostly on story.

You wouldn't mind answering my questionnaire?

    1. Have you ever played Mafia 1?

    2. When you look at Mafia 2 what do you think (do you think gta, or saints row?)

    3. How much do you know about Mafia 2 in general?

    Thanks

    hahaha alright matey.
    1) Yes, long time ago back on the ol' PS2

    2) Mafia 2, don't look like either to me

    3) I'm not sure what you mean by how much in general, but at the moment to me it seem like a sandbox style that will focus on the story only.

Have you ever played Bioshock, or even Uncharted 2?

If a game has a good story, but with Mafia 2 the story has to be equivalent to current mafia epics, than just replaying the story is enough replay value, since you never become tired of it

yeah iv played bio shock, same kind of problem spent all this money on a game i finished and havnt play again, what kept me play RDR was the fact it has side missions, minigames and feature that allow you to DIY, make your own mini story. The gamplay of Mafia II looks good, the shooting , stealth missions whatnot but can you go do this again in your own way?

But what's the point of side missions? There all repetitive. It's like it creates the illusion of re-playability. But it isn't.

True but they don't HAVE to be repetitive.

I'd rather have 12 completey different side missions (and no more) to add more gameplay time and mix it up a little than have no side missions at all.

I think this game is better being compared to uncharted than anything else (due to it being very story driven and the development of characters).

Yeah but I like games that don't chose to become ADD. I like games that are linear, and always focus on it's story. Rather than GTA IV, or Saints Row where the side missions are the main character, and the story the side character.

you have a point and i know what you mean it the context of Mafia II, but it would be nice (gamers like myself) for it to be more open world, like call up "Johnny" anytime you feel to make a buck or two by doing some kind of protection racket mission, or doing a John Dillenger and hold up a bank, (one thing i did like about the godfather was the holding up banks) just a little bit more freedom after you finish or during your time outs where you don't want to do a main story mission, and i know the story has somthing similar and why can't i just go rob the bank mission all the time but its not the same, you doing the mission over and over and you get bored of it, where as if its more not as scripted side mission you take your own approach.

Well think as games as a movie. If a move is a classic, you can watch it over, and over again since the story is that good. The same will apply with Mafia 2.

But you can have both. It doesn't have to be one extreme or the other.

How will a dozen side missions (one available for every chapter apart from the last 3) make the game "ADD"?
