i loved in Civ 4 being USA with Roosevelt (had industrial bonus and something else.. forgot), but i am excited about England (naval power.... just love it) and some of the other new civs not been in before.
Looking forward to playin as the iroquois. I think theyv been made into a militaristic civ which i enjoy playing as.
I always played as the Maya and Inca. Guess i have to find a new Civ for V
I liked playing as many civs in civ 4.
America, Russia, France... just to name a few
In Civ IV, the Ottomans — because of their special unit, the Sipahi, which always seemed to become available at just the right time and could easily beat almost anything else on the map with its extra power and movement.

Usually the US or Japan, but I tried to play them all.
Vikings. Beserkers made raiding coastal cities so much fun
Plus you could eventually upgrade them to mech infantry, and still keep there no penalty from water bonus, and any city attack bonuses from promotions, which was unavailable to gunpowder infantry.
I loved India. I would always play as Asoka because of the Spiritual-Organized, plus I could found Buddhism in 10 turns, plus I got FAST WORKERS!!! Beast special unit.
If I were to make a list of my favorite Civ4 civs, it would go like this.
1. India
2. France (as Louis XIV)
3. Aztec (I love the Jaguars)
4. America (Industrial!)
5. Japan
6. Germany
7. Rome (for Praetorian)
8. Mongolia
9. Arabia
10. Persia
I think my favorite civ IV civ was India with Gandhi. At least, I almost always did great with him - it was because the specialist economy fit me best, and Gandhi, being spiritual and philosophical was the best fit, since a holy city from the early game was crucial, and it was usually better if you founded that religion in your own city.
My list of favorite civs in IV, or leaders rather, would be:
1. Ghandi, India
2. Alexander, Greece
3. Louis XIV, France
4. I forget their leader, but the Vikings
5. Catherine, Russia. She's hot ;)

That was when she was older. Firaxis is depicting Catherine while she was still young. A picture of Catherine the Great when she was younger can be found here. That picture looks similar to Catherine in Civ IV.

lol I've seen a few paintings of her to know she was changing in style. The Civ V rendition of Catherine the Great came as no suprise for me.

I think I'm right in recalling that this was the portrait they used in the Spanish diplomacy screen in Civ II (as was the Catherine the Great portrait I linked to a few posts ago for the Russians?). Do you think the introduction of pretty female rulers in the later versions says anything about the game as a whole?
This is obviously overlooking the Civ version of Victoria of course, who looked like diahorrea in a tiara.
One last thing, who else has declared war on the Russians due to the sole reason that she'd slapped you in the face in the opening diplomacy meeting?

I don't think the introduction of more attractive women throughout the series has anything to do with Civ. It has to do with their audience.
I don't recall her slapping me in the face. Maybe it's just amnesia.

I tend to try and build and research rather than go to war. Nevertheless, it's loads of fun playing Civ III as the Mongols. Their special unit was a Keshik, which was basically a fast moving knight, but it was so cheap that you could build one per turn per city, no matter how small your city was. You'd end up generating so many Keshiks that you could overrun the world just by weight of numbers. Who needs universities anyway?
I liked using the English, as Victoria. Her economic bonus helped a lot, as did the bonus from the Wall Street building. And the Redcoats were pretty useful unit, at the critical time when a lot of the AI would still have a lot of longbowman and such, and musketmen, the redcoats more easily took care of enemies.
Not sure off the top of my head who I will play with first in Civ V. Probably will just be a homer and go with America

Greeks, Romans and Chinese. They were some of the greatest civs during ancient times, only to be ruined by incompetent leadership. I've always wondered what the world would be like if each of these civs had lived up to their full potential.
Zulu is my favorite..simple and just wants to war with everyone!!!
I always played as the Holy Roman Empire for that glorious Rathaus, and Charlemagne's Archery/Gunpowder units boost.
-75% Maintenance is powerful.
Also, the Dutch and Portuguese for their buildings. +1 gold or +1 hammer, always fun.

Why? Navy SEALs. Plus, the bonuses for FDR are pretty nice.
I really liked the egyptian civ, for their wonders building abilities, their chariot !
The Roman empire for their pretorians !!!
Also liked the babylonians ! for their archers. maybe it was in civ 2 i don't remember
and many others !
Actually, I'm a Thai...So, I'd play Siam as soon as I get the game. LOL
This is a great Civ, industrious and spiritual so they build wonders quickly and have no anarchy between changes in civics or religion; these goes build up over time. Also, the war chariot and monolith, because, let's face it, will all build stonehenge first, are great to have at the beginning of a game.
I also like to play with England as I am English or any civ that is industrious.

Favourite of all time? Ummm... Any of the civs from Civ 1 - especially the Americans on an Earth map - lots of room to grow!
For Civ 4, I've enjoyed playing Tokugawa with the Babylonians (gotta love being able to mix and match!). I usually went with a cultural leader, but then discovered how nice of a match Tokugawa's bonuses are for the Babylonian bowmen to help sweep the map clear of barbs, and then later for the gunpowder units!
Civ IV, I played a lot as the Dutch, Carthage, Greece, Persia (The only civ I play offensively, Immortals are incredible), Russia and the Celtic, I usually played as charismatic, creative or financial leaders.
Civ Rev, I played as Arabia(Fundamentalism FTW), Greece(Hoplites FTW), Zulu(Fast warriors FTW), France(Cathedral FTW) and Russia(2 Food Plains FTW). Sometimes, the Aztecs.
I'm looking forward to play as Russia (I always love to play as the Russians), Greece (Same), Persia and England
I find that I liked playing the Inca in CIV IV because the special unit replaced the warrior, giving me an advantage in the start of the game.
In both civ 3 and 4 i liked playing the Celts, Celts, Celts and Celts.
for a change of pace i enjoyed playing

I liked playing as Germany (no, I'm not), their Panzer was fun to watch crushing longbows
