    The Al Moravid Dynasty

They kicked England's ass at the battle of Tanger while England was at the height of its power

As special Units you could use the Black Guard (The personal army of and founded by Sultan Moulay Ismail consisted of black slaves collected out of West Africa, at its height it was a personal army of 1 million man)

You could als make the Moorish Civilization who ruled Spain and Morocco and parts of current Algeria and Tunis

Typical ignorant and arrogant speaking of usually Americans.
You also probaly think that Africa is one country with 1 president called Lou Lou Zoulou.

    Ignorance at it's peek.

Morocco played huge roles and empires in the Mediteranean scene my friend.
Learn a little bit of history.

Morocco and Ottoman Empires were both at the point of almost conquering Europe but where stopped at decive battles, The Ottoman in Austria and The Moroccans in the North of Spain at the border of France.

    Speaking about turning points
I wouldn't go around assuming he's American, especially since his profile doesn't say a word about being one. Plus, claiming ignorant=American is equally as ignorant and offensive as immediately dismissing Morocco as a "non-entity".

Now, to your argument, Morocco has seen some love in the 50+ Civ Civilization V thread, but it still falls under a lot of other African powers, such as Zululand, Ethiopia, Kongo, and Carthage. Although it has a strong history with the Barbary Corsairs and was a significant part of the Muslim conquest of Iberia, outside of the Mediterranean, though, they did not exert a great deal of influence on the rest of the world. Unfortunately, this tends to be the case with many of the potential African Civilizations, though many compensate for that in a variety of ways. That said, I would still rather see a nation like Ethiopia come next to represent Africa, or potentially Carthage, but that's just African nations; there are still other nations in the world that deserve inclusion (not the least of which being the Netherlands or the Maya).

In terms of powers, I'm aware that Morocco was quite the scientific nation, so obviously science bonuses are in order for a UA. I had a look at the 50+ Civ thread, and noticed that they had Black guards listed as a UU. They are a bit weaker than normal but can move after attacking, are cheaper to build, and workers can be "upgraded" into the Black Guards. I'd suggest giving a good read through of that thread. Never know what you might find or be able to contribute.

Enjoyed playing the with all factions with the classic Civ 2...The advisors were the best part of the game with their witty comments...I wish Sid could mod the Civ 2 advisors into Civ 5...

but in all fairness, both parties are guilty here. many people care about africa; it being the birth place of our species and the home of a/the great/est ancient civilization, egypt. however, not all americans are ignorant, many know a great deal about africa, so calling them as such reflects poorly upon morocco.

Thumbs up Hopes for future Civilization V addons

I loved playing the Celts in Civilization 4.
I wish that they would release an expansion for the Celts and also give the players the ability to choose once more between male/female leaders.
Would be interesting to actually see the Celts and the Vikings together on the map battling it out or teaming up. Lol

    New to Civilization

I am new to this series, is it okay to jump right in with Civilization 5 or is it better to learn with the older ones?

Just jump right in - I don't really see any advantage in playing the older ones first (unless you want to).

Rome is pretty handily a top runner for "Most Boring Civ" in Civ V. What a pity.

Rome was awesome in Civ Rev, but I particularly loved Spain. You get Navigation for free, which means you get it first, which means you get a free galleon automatically, which means you get to explore the oceans first, which you discover goody-huts and artifcats first. So de-lightful.

Gaians in Alpha Centauri. Mindworms (and bonus psi attack) made them the ultimate asymmetric combat units early on, allowing you to research in peace until rival factions started producing PSI-attack units where you just hit them with better tech.

    Twice? Really?

Well if we're talking AC, then I will kill any and all who play as the Believers with my University

Believers were a tough faction to play as. The 'swarm' tactic the AI always adopted with them was cool though. The amount of bases you attacked just to abandon in order to create lebensraum... University are probably my 2nd choice for victory points, them or Peacekeepers. But I preferred to play as Morganites, Spartan or Hive because I'd need a more drastic change in tactics so it kept things fresh.

there are still more deserving civilisations to enter the game...nowhere near as high as, the Netherlands.
...in your (respectable) opinion. Out of curiosity, would you care to justify your opinion? based on both cultural/historical heritage, I have a different opinion.

    or the Zulu

Hey the Zulu are important, they built an empire that almost beat the British with just a long shield and a short stabbing spear. And when I say almost they beat the British in 3 of the major 8 battles even though they where out gunned. That''s a feat that few can match. The Zulu also massacred Dutch settlers. I think the Zulu should be added in the 1st major expansion always. They had a huge impact on their surroundings, that is what matters. For Portugal, I think they should be added at the same time as the Zulu. Portugal's accomplishments are numerous, although not well taught. I want Portugal back. I enjoyed them in Civilization 4 and I hope to enjoy them in 5 although their Units won't be as useful.

    Well the Mongols where annoying.

    Hey the Zulu are important,
You haven't read the whole thing
"Portugal is high on the list, but nowhere near as high as, say, Carthage/Phoenicia, the Netherlands, or the Zulu."
"Netherlands or the Zulu". Why? is there any particular reason...?

Oh I must've missed that. Well I can see why the Zulu are higher, they played a HUGE part in South Africa's history, and even a Zulu tribesman is president. Netherlands, I have no idea though.

    Pardon?

Where's the quote coming from? I'm quite confused.

Although if I said the Zulu were more deserving, I have an opposite opinion now.

HEY The Zulu are just as deserving. A Zulu is South Africa's president. The won 3 out of 8 battles against a superior British force with short spears! They had 2 of the greatest Military minds of Africa's history! They make up the majority of all ethnic groups in South Africa, their language is a official language of South Africa. The gave the British their worst military defeat arguably of all time. They built an army of over 50,000 men! Keep in mind they went from a vassal to a power house in less than 100 years. Does that not count for anything? Shaka is one of the greatest military minds the world has ever known. Leaving them out is an insult.

Compared to Portugal, or the Majapahit? You know, two great empires, one of which was the most powerful in the world at a time?

Maybe not as powerful compared to them but they are just as deserving to get in as both.

Seeing as Africa is in dire need of more representation in the game, and the Zulus are a legacy Civ, it doesn't matter what anyones opinions are. Zulus will be added eventually.

The merit of a people do not qualify someone for Civ. This isn't a merit contest, it's a popularity contest. The civilization must either have owned a famous empire (Portugal), or be a popular period piece setting (Celts/Irish rebelling against Rome/England) or provide geographic and aesthetic diversity the game would otherwise miss out on (Majapahit/Indonesia).

Well said, the Zulus are quite popular in the English-speaking countries.
Zulu kingdom,1818–1897. The Anglo -Zulu war began on 11 January 1879 and the British captured King Cetshwayo in August 1879.
The Kingdom of Kongo (1400 – 1914), a regular Kingdom for more than half a millennium, isn't equally popular. Indeed, it´s a question of popularity.

If the Zulu aren't added I will be insulted. I learned about the Zulu from Civilization, I learned their culture and history WAY before most my age did. I have had this obsession with them for a really long time and if they are not put in the game, then... I dunno. HOWEVER They most likely will be added, it's just a matter of time before I found religions in Ulundi and take cities with my warriors.

I can see where he's coming from, though. It doesn't really matter if the Zulu may not deserve to get in from a historical perspective (which is debatable), but that the Zulu are a Civ tradition. To not include them when they have been in every iteration of Civ (including Rev) can be a let down to long time fans of the franchise.

I found somewhere that said it was, although it also attributes a similar quote to Ralph Waldo Emerson.
