I played Civ 4 and Revolution, mostly with Germany, because it had a power militar characteristic at the begining, Rome, just because it was Rome and Greece, because of its science development, even though Alexander from the greek was kind of gay. XD
I would like to play with the Portuguese if there were any in any civ game, because they were the first to discover new worlds and contributed to the Renacentist, mostly economicaly and culturaly and because I´m portuguese too.
Out of all the many Civilizations I'd like to see (and play as) in the game, I have painfully shrunk it down to a top ten civs. I thought very carefully about each one, and all of these that I have chosen were/are powerful, unique, and worthy of being added to the game (Refer to previous posts to see most of the civs I would like to see).
Assyria (The only World Power of history not to be included in the game)
Majapahit/Indonesia (Today the fourth most populous country in the world)
Maya (Unlike the Aztecs, Toltecs, Olmecs, and so on, they had been there all along)
Inca (The "Roman Empire" of the Ancient South Americas)
Spain (Spanish is the second most spoken language worldwide)
Sweden (A powerful figure of European history)
Mongols (Took over an area larger than the Roman Empire)
The Celts (Their culture and bravery in combat still inspire people to this day)
Ethiopia/Abyssinia (The only African nation to successfully resist the Scramble for Africa by the colonial powers during the 19th century)
The Netherlands/Dutch (Colonised parts of South-east Asia, South Africa, and South America)

I have always been a bit upset that civilization has never included Israel and David.
I agree, I would very much like to see Israel (It was one of the civs that just missed out on being in my top ten - the good news is, there is likely going to be more than ten new civs with all the new possible expansion pacts), since they have played an important role in history, and are largely the center of attention in the Bible, not to mention they have a very unique culture - which is always important when considering adding a civ.Originally Posted by FalseLion
I like Israel more because of their modern military machine. It is quite effective and in many ways innovative. As a historic civilization, they were obviously important, being the chief pioneers in monotheism (though some would contend that the cult of Akhenaton and Zoroastrianism rank among Judaism as early monotheistic doctrines).
I mostly played random Civs in Civ IV but when the Civ Gold mod came out I played with Sweden, I loved them for a cupple of resons. Millitaristic, great 1st gunpowder unit and the riksbank witch gave +75% gold. Not to mention they are the country closest to my heart.
Hopefully there will be a mod with them in the futur or mabe even in an expantion.
From Civ IV, I preferred the nations that didn't revolt for their 'revolutions', namely India so I could found Buddhism quickly; for a change tho I'ld play Inca or sometimes Greece.
Only problem with India was the freakin' pink color, I wish we could change the nation colors in Civ IV (and in Civ V ? )
As for earlier Civ games, if I remember correctly, I'ld almost always choose Greece.
India was pretty awesome for IV. But I usually played as Japan so Togukuwa (or whatever) didn't threaten me each turn.

and also of course the barbarians !!! i'd like them to be able to form countries and so on if you don't defend well !! its a surprise in nations ruling the world and gives something new to the game
In Civ 2 i remember from now that when you met a very big country you could split it in 2 when taking their center of power, their biggest or most important town. this was fun because you could make new powers emerge from dust, and give more depth in the gameplay
But what civs would everyone like to see in future expansion packs? We already have Rome, Greece, and Japan in the game. If you had to narrow it down to just adding only ten new civs, what would your "Top Ten Civs to add" be?

My all time favorite was University of Planet from SMAC and SMAX, though its been so long I cant remember why.
In Civ IV Vanilla was Russia with Catherine the Great for the Cossacks, and the combination of the creative and financial traits.
By BTS Mahmed II of the Ottomans was my favorite for the expansive and organized traits.

Being of Italian extraction, I usually gravitated towards the Romans. Of course, with the two UUs going into the Civ V iteration of Rome, I'll be certain to take an interest in making use of these in either my campaigns around the Classical Age or in defending my territories.
I've also played Germany to a great extent, but I'll also be looking forward to trying them out along with the English and the Greeks in Civ V.
That wold be a hard thing to do, I know my first choise wold be Sweden but after that I can only think of 1 more North american Native american civ.
And to be honest I whant them all to be in all the nations of the world. Allso hoping for a new 50 civs in one game modjust cous it gives the game more depth and makes it alot harder than with just 18, altho civ V might be pretty hard by deafult anyways.
Then we dont have to forget that if they whant to realese new civs they probably wold prefer them to speek there original language as whell so sometimes it culd be hard finding someone who dose just that.

I enjoyed playing the Celts in Civ 4 because of my own heritage. I'm looking forward to playing the Iroquois and Siam in Civ 5.... untill they add the Celts

ETA: Ethiopians w/ Haile Selassie and a South American power like Simon Bolivar w/ either Venezuela or Colombia, Sarmiento w/ Argentina, Canada w/ Borden and Trudeau, and yeah the Slavs need a rep. Any of these would be choice.

Good idea but we need to determine the strengths and characteristics of that custom Civ. Jagged Alliance 2 had a 'psych test' that determined the characteristics and skills of your custom character via a series of questions - I am sure our friends at Firaxis could have fun with that
A custom Civ is a great idea but it needs to be more than window dressing. Also perhaps custom civs should not be allowed into multiplayer games as there may be some serious unbalancing issues.

I have always loved playing as India. For ideological reasons more than anything. With Gandhi as my advisor I would build a strong and powerful economic country of peace. We were the brightest and the most technologically advanced, but our military was nothing to scoff at. We had a powerful military with a strong defended boarder. Any war that was brought to our land was pushed back. We are peaceful meaning we wont start fights, but we will finish them.
Once again the Spannish and the Portuguese civilizations forgottenDang, I play this game since the first version and the only versions I really loved was Civ2 and Civ4 Beyond the Sword.
What's most enfuriating about these 2 civs once again left out of the "original" civs that come with the game is the fact that we now see civs like the Songhai, the Siam and the Iroquois... what the hell??? Are you guys trying to enter with the game in new markets or you just being forgetful?

I'll agree with most of your choices ... but the about the dutch the came very late to colonise countries. In the world's timeline of colonization/discoveries Portugal and Spain were the only two world powers for most of the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries.

After winning a few cultural and technological victories in Civ IV BTS I decided I wanted to have more wars / military "fun", which lead me to playing Cyrus (Persia) in Epic and Marathon games. Because Cyrus was the only leader to gain great generals faster and at the same time use less XP for promotions.
This way I stationed enough generals in a city, so I could produce level 5 (with right civics even level 6) units from start (so my whole army was being produced in that city).
On naval maps I liked the Dutch because of their special building.
And the USA of course for the SEALs and the Mall.
Dying to get but don't know if I meet specs. I have an Intel G45/G43 chipset - does this meet minimum requirements for the game? I don't want to buy a game I can't return let alon play.

Usually I play Civ IV as Celtic, German, USA, Rome and also Russia a few times, because of Catherina, hehe..
The Civs I would like to se in the future, would be:
1: Denmark: First because I´m danish. And because once it was a powerfull european nation, with one of the strongest navies. Also the eldest existing monarchy i the world, with kings like Valdemar the Victorius, or Christian IX also known as "the father-in-law of Europe"
2: Afghanistan: A very cultural, proud and hard working people. They can grow thing out of nothing. Also great warriors (I´m not tihinking Taleban, thoug they are to (Have been depolyd there)), they have kicked a.. on both the Russian and British empire. Always have been very good guerillas.
3: Hanseatic League: Once a powerfull economic alliance of trading cities and their guilds that dominated trade along the coast of Northern Europe in the later Middle Ages
4: The Boers/Afrikaners: Very hardcore settlers and figthers, also good guerillas. Held Winston Churchill POW during the Boerwars.
Speciel unit: Charlize Theron..
5: The Inuits: A very hardcore artic peoble, wich have settled northern Canada and Greenland several times.
6: Israel: Cradel of christianity. Powerfull military and intelligens. Have beaten all its neighbours in several wars.
7: The Papal State/State of the Church: Think about how powerfull the Catholic Church and it´s leaders have been in the history.
8: Scotland: Whiskey, Bagpipes, Castles, Braveheart, Sean Connery
9: Poland/Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth: Poland have long and great history, with wars, diplomacy, culture and religion. A leader could be Lech Walesa, the first democratically elected president of Poland.
10: The countries in the Balkans: Many of the countries in the Balkans, especially in the former Yugoslavia, have a great and exiting history trough the times.
And to the people who suggested Ireland. Another speciel unit could be: Boondock Saints..
Portugal and Spain should be in the game, after all in the XVI century they discover the world and build empires where the Sun never sets.
Personally in Civ 4 i always palyed with King John II and the portuguese, carracs were a major asset.
i just think it's unforgivable that Portugal isn't mentioned... we ruled the world for several years, pioneered the Age of Discovery, invented several instruments that made navigation a reality, conquered and discovered India, Brazil, ...

anyways, in Civ IV i usually played Cyrus (i think) of the Persian (they started in the best spot possible on the real World map), and i miss religion on this version...but it's a great game.
I really, really would like to see the Hebrews/Israel with King David speaking Hebrew (Aramaic would work too, as that was also spoken in the day--that said we already have two leaders who speak Aramaic). I think to stave off some controversy they'd have to focus on the ancient Hebrews and mention the Diaspora in the Dawn of Man reading--but not have any modern unique units or such. You'd hear (sometimes rightfully) protests that Civ may or may not be unjustly glorifying Israeli military action in the Mideast (that said I have sympathy for both Israel and Palestine--both have suffered).
Portugal with Henry the Navigator or King Joao II again would be nice. Some nice sea bonuses to offset England's would give some nice flexibility when choosing a naval civ.
Celts are a must-have. Everyone loves Boudica's legendary aura, and everyone also loves Celtic music and woad-painted warriors. Rock of Cashel as a wonder would be nice, not seen it in Civ. :P
But I'd also like to see Korea with defense and science bonuses--maybe Commerce bonuses too, given their modern era boom and their invention of digital broadband media and such. King Sejong as a leader (reading when you first meet him, or making new Korean characters) voiced by a fluent Korean speaker, Hwachas to defend against comp AI--and possibly Arirang or traditional Korean court music for the music track.
You know, I think the Koreans and the Vikings WILL appear in expacks--they are the two civs that have city-states in the game currently, but Oslo is defo going to be Viking land when the expack/DLCs hit, and I suspect Seoul will be too. King Canute the Great of the Vikings (who ruled England as well as several Scandinavian countries)? Or Harald Fairhair (who conquered land for the sake of a woman and didn't cut his hair until he finished, according to a legend)?

Civ III - for some reason which I no longer remember I always played Greeks.
Civ IV - Mansa Musa(Mali) and Huayna Capac(Inca) were my fav(I loved financial)
Civ V - well since we have Askia of Songhai now which is more/less replacement for Mansa Musa and Malinese Empire we proly wont see him anymore but I am hoping for Huayna Capac/Inca with some nice civ ability.Still no fav civs atm in Civ V but Arabia,Russia and Songhai are close.

It was Canutes father Sweyn Forkbeard (Svend Tveskæg) who conquered England. So when the english today is singing "London Bridge is falling down", it is refering to the day the people of London burned and destroyed the bridge over the Thames, to prevent the Vikings advancing.
Harald Fairhair (Harald Hårfagre) Was according to Snorre Sturlasson, the first king to rule the entire Norway ca 872-933. According to the legend he wanted to married the daughter of a rich man, but she didn´t want to have him because he wasn´t powerfull enough. She was wondering why he havn´t conqured all of Norway, and he took up the challenge and promised not to cut hes hair before the quest was completed, wich he could after ten years.

The Water Rats, the Canadians had the formidiable job of dealing with the SS Panzer divisions, and clearing the deeply entrenched German troops through much of the North. The Nick name of Water Rats was coined for there fearce water fighting.
The North Atlantic, what more can we say prior to the US involvement, and even after. The defense of the vast Majority of the US east coast, the protection of the Convoy, fell to the Canadian Navy. Although comprised of smaller ships. 1/2 of the Ships supplied during WW2 Came from the RCN. By the end of WW2 Canada had the third largest Navy, and considering had a population 1/10 of the US, and not being a Maritime power like Britian, it was a huge acomplishement in such a short time. The advent of the convoy escort Ship the Corvette was a huge contribution.
The RCAF provided the majority of the Aircraft from the Convoy protection, flying from Bases in Newfouldland the Maritimes, and Bases in England.
By end of WW2 Canada had the forth largest Airforce in the world. With 1 million troops in Uniform, it was a huge accomplishment for a country 1/10 the size of its southern friend.
Aircraft well the Arrow, is the undisputed king, of its time. Canada also produced the first North Americian Jet powered Passenger plane. Oddly both of these Avro Projects where killed by US pressure.

When still a commonwealth nation, we defended our homeland with Local Milita's from 3 US invasions.
So as far as Canadian Units, I would recommend the Avro Arrow, or the CF100 Canuck. The wallable Corvete with its 4 inch gun, or the RAM tank, Cruiser, or Valentine. And possibly the Storm trooper

So does Canada have a right to be in? Sure, we where a British Colony who lived on the same continent with an agressive Americian Neighbour, who we defended our lands in 3 different occasions. Remained unique, and became best of friends with our southern friends and share the largest undefended border in the world with.
We made huge contributions to some of the greatest technilogical break throughts. We have invented many items we all use every day, but take little credit for. We are a relaxed bunch, but when our back is up against the wall, can duke it out with the best.
We long where our southern neighbours defender of the north, at one point in the 50's fielding the largest interceptor force in the world.
We prefer peace to war. But when called to war, we have in the past fielded a portion of our population to fight that is unmatched by most countries.
So yes Canada has a right to stand as a young nation due to its proud accomplishments, and our friendship with the world.
I would like to see the Zulu added again, I never played them, but I would always sit them for the AI's player. Good times

I have pretty much stuck with civ 3. I didn't like the changes after that, but can play that one until I get to the 1900s, then I stop and start a new game

We had the most experienced soldiers for three centuries from 1500 and 1800 AD. In Civ4, I always liked playing India. Loved the faster workers. In Civ5 (whenever it gets fixed so I can play a full game without it crashing on me), I'm thinking I will like England, too. Although, there are several others that I am curious to try.

Seriously dude. I'm really glad you are proud and knowledgable about your county. I admire patriotism...especially when it is founded in actual knowledge, as yours obviously is. But...I thought the post was about what civs people liked playing IN THE GAME. We're talking about a game, not real life.
