Make spec ops an open beta

2k should do an open beta, so as to really stress test the servers. also when you do an
limited closed beta its very hard to tell how how the games actually working, example framerates.

Isn't the first stage of any beta to test the servers in small amounts? Maybe they'll do an open one eventually, but I think we should probably be grateful for any kind of beta at all. BS2 didn't even have one (as far as I know).

Well they did not really say if its closed or an open beta? and beta is not always intended for just a server stress test, framerates and graphics performance test are a big part of a beta,
and keep in mind a game with a bad framerate=lots of lag.

nenous2 is right, i think to that 2k have make an open beta, because everyone play this beta and more people try this game and buy it.

it would get generally interested, and not by a bunch of chosen one´s

The only way into the beta at this point is by invite, that makes it a closed beta.An open beta would be available to anyone who wanted it.

I think doing an open beta could also hurt sales if not handled the right way. Look at how the 360 community is handling the MOH beta delay. It also seems that a majority of gamers look at betas as early demo play time instead of actually beta testing.

Although it could be useful to have like a month long closed beta for certain testing and then maybe an added week or two of an open beta.

I have to agree with you about MOH the 360 xbots are complaining so much, and my real
concern about spec ops, is no ps3 beta and it not that we did not get a ps3 beta its more to do with the fact that the ps3 has always had issues online after a game was beta on the 360 only.

lol Really xbots? PC and PS3 players probably wouldnt be far off of what they've been doing if the roles were reversed. I think your xbot comment pretty much proves that.

On topic though......The reason I brought that up was the huge amount of negative press that is coming from just a delay of that beta. And the fact that average, casual, whatever gamers cant seem to wrap their heads around the fact that a beta is not the completely finished product.

Reading some posts over there about how the game isnt polished enough to warrant a purchase and other nonsense.

Which the blame is also kinda on EA how they used there stage time (smoke and mirrors) at E3 to make it seem that it really wasnt a beta at all but a free glimpse of the finished product early for just preordering.

i would like to know how the current participants were chosen to take part in the beta, i for one am quite gutted not to get an invite already.

i am an older gamer with a lot of experience of fps games and like many would love the chance to beta test this, but from what i've read on various forums, there have been lots of kids given codes, obviously filling out fake information.
also i have seen many ps3 users getting codes, and claiming they will sell them on ebay.

why are genuine interested gamers being left out, isnt there a better way for them to select their participants??

    "Xbots" huh?

That's really all I have to say about that.

As for an open beta: I would like one eventually. What I would not like is for people to start whining because they "can't get access" when other people do AND for people to stop being greedy (looking at a few PS3 users here...). But, that would require me changing the entire structure of online gaming as a whole and the "me first" mentality of most gamers these days.

Simply put, I'm willing to wait. If I don't get to be a part of the beta, I don't get to be a part of it. It isn't the end of the world; I do have a life outside of my xbox/pc/wii/gamecube and I need to live it. I suggest that people stop being hung up on a bunch of pixels. Treat the beta code as a surprise gift; if you get it awesome! If you don't, then no harm done because it's a surprise!

I will buy this game even if i dont get to test it on the ps3 because i think 2K is still the best devs/publishers out there.

Haha, well, good for you, but that isn't what I was saying. 2k DOES make some of the most epic games out there (Bioshock = love, and I will probably be getting Mafia II as well), but my comment was more about the "gimme gimme gimme a beta key code now"* attitude. Dave's told us to be patient, that they are only letting small groups in at a time. I think we should take him at his word - especially those of us who DON'T have a beta key at all, nenous :P

*Mad props to anyone who gets the song reference, btw.

Sorry, guys! The beta will remain closed for the duration. I know you all want to get a chance to dig in on it and check out what Spec Ops has to offer, but I hope that you'll accept that this process--exclusive as it is--will make the version you get at the end much better.

As long as it makes the finished product as good as it can be then I'm all for it.

I hope you guys are able to get all the feedback you need from the beta, and that the PS3 version benefits from it too.

Typically,360 games ported to the PS3 don't turn out well.Hopefully that won't be the case here.

I Feel, the beta should be closed for a while to test for glitches and bugs, because sooo many people would just treat it as a demo, and not report feedback...
