Question Do you want a free mode?

If you could freely roam rapture with your friends, would you? You can go anywhere in BS1 and BS2 and you can see splicers roaming, try to get adam from little sisters, be attacked by rival factions, and hold a base anywhere in Rapture. your characters can be in game models like Toasty or muiltiplayer one's like jacob norris. would you play, or does this idea suck? vote now!

No, leave free roam for games like GTA and Red Dead.

I think that would be a blast. Bioshock is not really a open world game like that though.

I think it would take all the mystery out of Rapture because you'd see how small and linear it truly is. Think about open world games - Just Cause 2, Red Dead Redemption, GTA 4. These are game worlds with literally thousands of square miles to traverse. That's why they work. With the game maps in Rapture as they are, you'd be bored in a day, especially since we've pretty much already experienced everything they have to offer in the single-player campaign.

That's not to say though that level designs in Bioshock aren't absolutely fantastic. I remember playing the original Bioshock and just spending hours staring at the environment, dazzled by the water effects and the crisp clear graphics.

Some people complained that the designers used too much gloss mapping when designing the levels, saying that it looked like everything in Rapture was made out of plastic. But I love that effect, to me it makes things look more genuine and vivid, like the environment actually has some substance rather than just being a bunch of pixels.

The levels appealed to me like few games every did, they were so macabre and surreal that I literally wanted to take my time walking through them so I could soak up every last bit of their ambiance. And what a way for the game to start, Medical Pavilion has to be one of the most brilliantly designed levels ever in gaming. And it only got better from there, except for some levels at the end but we won't go into that

althea makes a pretty good point. if this idea were to ever happen, it would have to wait until everything else in bioshock has already been done. kinda like star wars: the old republic.

Not unless you could spend adam or something on upgrades and costumes?
Voting for it, but I'm not sure what you'd do in it?

If it did happen (would be cool as)... FREE DLC?

I think it would could be good but would quickly turn into the free roam of RDR,
just repeatedly spawn killed by some little kid with a high powered pistol.

It was fun for a bit, and with friends but it wouldn't be the same as competitive multiplayer.

There are many ways to do this, like when they first started rapture ryan worried chaos could happen and built a safe place miles from the city, in which many escaped to and bam, you have a whole new semi city in which you could build just for free roam.

What makes free roam work in other games is not being limited by the elements surrounding you, like an ocean, but if you look at the structures already in bioshock, there are several ways to do this. like using a vegas hotel as an example, layers instead of distance. Having rooms be adjoined by holes and starways for 50 floors, who knows.

But you could easily achieve the size of a normal free roam that way

I donīt like the idea of Bioshock as a open game. It schould be linjear as it is both in MP and SP. For BS3 i hope that one can revisit previous levels, and maybe be a little more open game. But just a LITTLE! No Red dead redemption thanks! /Johan

I think it could be pulled off with areas like arcadia and fort frolic. And in order to make sure theres no spawn kills you should be placed a sigfigant distance from your killer(s) so you can escape if you dont want to fight.
