    Question Fireflies

no, not the stupid tv show.......

So, the LS's like to mark their gifts with bottles full of fireflies.

But, that's the only place you see 'em TMK. Where do they get them?

(When I first saw the use of butterflies in the materials for BS2, I thought maybe there would be a.... deeper, funkier, horrific use of them.)

"I give you the light of (the fireflies), our most beloved (insect). May it give light to you, when all other lights go out."

If anyone can name that reference, I owe you a cookie.

    Fellowship of the Ring.

As to your original question, Janissary:

Maybe fireflies were in demand, and Fontaine had them smuggled into Rapture? It seems far-fetched, but it's certainly a possibility.

As to why they would be in demand... I'm clueless there.

I think that they get them from arcadia. I see them flying around the lights in the first game.

Very nice! I also would've accepted the Return of the king.

Perhaps they were raised in Arcadia and sold as pets?

I'm guessing "star", when Galadriel gives Sam the vial to light his way.

Can't remember the name. Do I get a cookie?

(And I swear on Codex's grave I didn't reference anything but my memory.)

I knew it would be 3 syllables and start with a vowel, probably "e", but that was as close as I could get.

So, C of the X, did you have to look that up?

My good friend who is a Tolkien encyclopedia walked past, looked at my computer screen and said "its Elendil, duh." I knew it was "elen" something.

I wondered about the fireflies too. I think they were probably bred in Arcadia and Eleanor had some Little Sisters catch them there.

Forgive me, but isn't it actually "Earendil" with an umlaut or two over the "e"? Earendil was their brightest and favourite star. Elendil was the Father of Isildur, who escaped Numenor across the ocean to Middle-Earth with the palantari and then went on to found Gondor? He had a brother too who founded the kingdom of Arnor, I'm sure... He's called Arnarion or something similar...

I wonder too....where did they come from? Maybe they bred them somewhere in their labs and they just replicated. Specially in the forest areas, such as in Arcadia.

    Question

When do LSs in their busy day have time to catch them?
