why 18 and not 19?
why 18 and not 19?
what's the difference between having 18 or 18+Spain in the original game?
I mean, there arent any mongols, or vikings or incas TODAY who can get angry if they dont see their civ in game, but yes spaniards.
Somebody at Firaxis hate us so much.
SID this is your fault.
The Dutch should be the 19th civ.... they played a mayor part in world history
Oh wow, I'm a bit peeved they left off Spain and some other civs too but you need to forget about it. They just want to squeeze every last penny out of us so they're leaving off some important civilizations for the expansion. Its a fact of business D:
I'm kinda annoyed the USA is included though, I hate when they show up in games because they just make no sense for the ancient and medieval eras.
Oh and the Dutch were pirates who tried to build an empire by stealing Portugal's.
Portugal should be there, they're always my favorite CIV, but I'm sure they will be in the expansion.
Since when was historical accuracy a requirement in Civ? The idea is to make a sandpit out of history. If you want to be pedantic about it, absolutely none of those 18 civilizations make any sense in an ancient era... pretty sure every single one of them was formed way later than 4000BC.
How about this - Firaxis are attempting to make each civilization more distinctive, more unique, give their leaders more personality and make interaction with them more complex and rewarding. It strikes me that doing that effectively for 18 different civs is quite a massive task. The more they add, the less time they can spend on each one.
Why does everyone get so petty-minded when their homeland is excluded? This isn't a diplomatic mission to appease all nations of the world, it's a strategy game. They're not trying to pander to people's patriotism, they're trying to make it fun to play.
Add to that the fact that they're making it as easy as possible to mod your own civs in to your heart's content, and I don't really see there's any issue at all. Personally I couldn't care less whether the included England or not... say what you will about their contribution to the world. Historical context is the realm of the Total War series... Civ is about making your own history.

1) Now the leaders need so much work that they have become the biggest part of introducing a new civ.
2) If you want civs to be historically accurate then play Rhye's and Fall. There they do appear at the correct time.
3) As not every nation can be included do you want to play with humans, dwarves, elves, orcs?
Only in a mod, but not for the main game.
I acknowledge that my country isn't in, but I'm quite hurt by seeing it as a City state.
But you see that I don's say that it should be in.
Ever heard of Mongolia?

I fully support exclusion of Spain on CiV.![]()
If there were 19, why not 20? If there were 20, why not 21? If there were 100, why not 101?
The answer, of course, is that it takes time to make game content, and they have to draw the line somewhere, if they are going to release the game before going bankrupt. I think the initial 18 they have choosen provide sufficient variety and flavor to the gameplay.
Moderators: Isn't there a rule against nationalist trolling? I don't think I'm the only one fed up with these Spanish whine threads.

Mongolia does exist. More importantly, the Mongol Empire was formed by a combination of groups which are now spread all across Asia and famously represented by the Tatars and the Kazakhs.
The Vikings were just the name given to Norse raiding parties. The Norse people still exist as an ethnic group including large portions of modern day Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Estonia (right, Estonians?). Furthermore, this group was the source of a couple other well known ethnic groups including the jumbled ethnic mess which is Britain, the Rus (most likely) and the Norman French.
While the Incan empire fell, the Quechua and Aymara people still exist in Peru. They are just Peruvians now, along with a number of other ethnic groups.
Perhaps, since Spain isn't in the game, you could take the opportunity to learn about other cultures.

There is, the 3rd 'sticky' thread by a mod. Its name:'No nationalist, ..., political trolling allowed'.
I think it should be enough of a reason for the moderators to mail to these trolls.
Who cares? For me, Mongolia is a much more interesting civilization than Spain. Adding Mongolia would add much more to this game for me than adding Spain. Guess what, I'm not from Mongolia.
You don't add civilizations only to sell games in those specific countries. You add them to make a diverse and interesting game. Adding Siam instead of Spain made this game a lot more interesting to me.
Well i guess if they allow Spain it would be unfair to not include the following
Byzantium
Vikings
Dutch
Portugal
and maybe Canada
cause Canada has never been in a civ game i played
and Spain has been in pretty much every
Stygian!
Couldn't you post about a would-be Conan mod? Stygia, Hyperborea-the-elder, Aquilonia, etc.?
Anyway, forum fighting always ends with the moderators banning at least one of you (Kaus), so for the sake of your own rights to post, stop it!
If this thread will be closed due to your childish behaviour, then...
I rather not finish this sentence.![]()
Could someone please explain why you've started 6 threads so far complaining about Spain not being in the game?
I could but I don't want to get banned.![]()
Las companias siempre se guardan cosas para robar con expansiones futuras.
Civilization 5 podria ser mas completo de lo que va a ser pero los desarrolladores se van a guardar cosas para agregar en expansiones (como warlords y beyond the sword) y poder ganar mas.
I always wondered if the Viking(which just means "raider" I believe?) Civilization were called Vikings in these games because if they settled on Denmark for example, the other Nordic players would be pissed?![]()
OP, get over it tbh. It sucks if you really wanted to play Spain but meh, they're not going to change it now. They're almost guaranteed to appear in the first expansion or through DLC. In the meantime, Civ V should still be a fun game which is the most important thing right?
England is essential I would trade any two civs for England.
And how does Rome starting in 4000BC make any more sense the the USA.
Rams... Not everyone speaks Spanish you know.
Translation of Rams post: The companies always keep things to rob with future expansions. Civilization 5 podria(can't translate) to be but complete than is going to be but the developers are going away to keep things to add in expansions (like warlords and beyond the sword) and be able to win but.
It's a very literal translation, but you can get the gist of what he's saying.

I certainly wouldn't be, and I don't think many other Norwegians would either. I'd happily play as Denmark when I wanted to play as the civilization most closely related to my own heritage. Maybe a small part of the reason why they went with "Vikings" is that they would cover all Scandinavian countries with one civilization, but I think the most important reason is that the "Vikings" are more well known and iconic.

1. The dutch were amazing naval and land fighters in the medieval and Renaissance periods. They fought off the Holy Romans and Prussia, annihilated the SPANISH silver fleet, and created a legacy that would and has lasted for centuries. Oh, and in case you didn't notice, The Netherlands are the #1 buyer of the F16 and the M1 Abrams Tank in the world- after the US, of course. They may have become weaker in the 19th and 20th century, but by the mid 21st I have no doubt that they will again be one of the strongest, most influential nations in the world.
2. If they didn't add in the US, there would be a huge drop in sales in the US. but your right, though. I wish they built the normal game kind of like Rhyes and Fall- where empires come in a certain points in time, not just all at once.
your welcome... If you can't speak english then use a translator.
