Will the Differences Between Difficulty Settings Be Described?

Will there be a description of the differences between the difficulty settings in the interface (one thing I always wish there is and really appreciate when it is there)

...if not, can the team give an outline of the differences between difficulty settings?

I'm still not sure about this myself, whether there will be the usual 3 choices of difficulty or the dreaded adaptive difficulty.Has this been 100% clarified yet? its normally pretty simple to work out what affects on the game the difficult has.

EASY-enemies are less alert, take more damage, player has more HP,more ammo ect
    NORMAL-speaks for itself
    HARD.Increased enemy awareness,player takes more damage,less ammo.

Personally I find it annoying when the AI increases/decreases in ability (toughness, alertness, etc).

For example if there's a particularly nasty, agressive and frightening variety of splicer in Rapture, I think it should always remain as such, and perhaps on easier difficulty settings you just get more resources (ammo, meds, etc) to deal with it.

Me too. I've been playing games long enough to be bored with twitch gameplay and the grind of having to re-load umpteen times just to get past a particularly tough area— it's just not fun.

Higher difficulties (I think) are better when they involve extra goals and/or fewer resources. The Metal Age difficulty settings for example were really good.

I had a glitch whilst playing Chaos Theory where all the goons went to high alert as soon as I used 'Open Door Stealth' in a relatively noisy environment and it just bugged the hell out of me.

Good question that, indeed it's far better when there is a detailed description of difficulty settings.

I've been reading through some of the first impressions of a journalist who had a hands on with the game recently in New York-according to him the difficulty was pretty forgiving-fingers crossed for an extreme mode!

I wonder if you can adjust the difficulty level while playing the game. In Sin Episodes there is a slider that adjusts the difficulty based on what kind of challenge you want (as well as one for aid). The difficulty also adjusts as you play. If you're playing particularly well (i.e. it's too easy), then it increases the difficulty a bit to keep it challenging. Or if you keep getting your butt handed to you, then you can dial the difficulty down. Dynamically controlled difficulty would keep it interesting and fun, and of course it would still allow the player to increase it to insane levels.

you seem to be on a linking spree bigdaddy93

i would also guess that you were born in 1993?

anyway, adaptive difficulty. hard to program for, but so very worth it. if they can implement it right, it will surely keep me always on my toes

Wholeheartedly agree. Adaptive difficulty seems to be designed around first time gamers, or some twisted idea of "no gamer left behind". It flies in the face of any reality the game's tempo tries to maintain. It was abysmal in SiN episodes, and one wonder why such a formulaic shooter would need it in the first place.

From what the developer said, Irrational was very aware of the shortcomings of the mechanic from previous games using it, and severely reduced any ammunition/resource miracle drops & still maintaining the purposefully challenging parts to halt gamers progress and make them think hard of solutions instead of pandering the difficulty of obstacles or monsters to match the players lackadaisical approach.

there were miracle drops? thats just as bad as supply crates in hl2 that give you what you need most when you break them open (eg: health packs when you're low on health, and ammo packs when your health is fine but ur ammo isnt)

I want some challenging enemies, I know the Big Daddy is a challenge but what about some of the Splicers? They seem to go down kind of easily. Although I know certain types of ammunition are more effective so maybe that's why the splicer always seemed to get owned!?!

I like a challenge, but not so much that it's a drag. Also, it doesn't make sense to me when the AIs can take huge amounts of damage, for instance head shots with the TMP in Resident Evil 4 (Don't get me wrong, I love Resident Evil 4, but how many times do you have to shoot someone in the face with an uzi before they stop trying to eat your brain?)

From what Ive seen of the Enemies in Bioshock, with the exception of the BD's,they all seem to go down like flies! I'll be ramping up the difficulty!
