    A DLC check in

    Hey guys,

There are a couple threads on this topic, so I thought the most efficient way to get this out to you would be to begin my own thread.

I don't have much to tell you currently, but whenever I do, I'll update here. For now, I want you to know that the dev team is looking in to solutions for both the DLC map playlist request and the leaderboard reset issue. I hope to have more information for you early next week, but that depends on the devs and when they can provide us some good info.

For now, please know that the team is aware and they are looking in to what they can do to make you happy - and all your requests have been forwarded to them.

    MAY 19 UPDATE

    Hey guys,

Here’s an update on the DLC fixes. Currently, we have begun work on making DLC playlists for every BioShock 2 MP mode. That means you will be able to choose from the lobbies currently available as they work now, or, if you own DLC, you can choose to play only the DLC maps with people who also have DLC maps.

We are also creating a fix so that people who Rebirth do not have their leaderboard stats wiped. Unfortunately, even after working with Microsoft and Sony, we are unable to restore your lost scores, however, we are expediting a solution to keep this from ever happening again.

As for timing, we are hoping to have these fixes to you in 4 weeks. It will take about 2 weeks to code the patch and 2 weeks to test and certify (if all goes perfectly, longer if there’s any hitches in the process.)

I’ll keep you updating as we move through these stages. You won’t be getting a daily update from me, but whenever something important happens, I’ll post it here.

    Thanks.

    -Elizabeth

    JUNE 4 UPDATE

    Hey guys,

I have an update on the status of the DLC issues we’re working on for you. Currently, the Rebirth issue has been fixed by our team and is headed into testing. Based on how long the QA and approval process goes, I know this patch won’t be in your hands in the next two weeks, but when I have a definitive release date, I’ll let you all know. The map playlists have been delayed and will not be making it in to this upcoming patch. When I know more about that future patch, I will give you more details immediately, but I wanted to give everyone an update as soon as possible as to what’s going on over here.

Let me know if you have any questions, and again, thank you for your patience while we work this out.

    -Elizabeth

    JULY 26 UPDATE

    Hey guys,

The patch notes for 360 and PS3 are now up on www.cultofrapture.com - This will be coming on August 3rd. To give everyone a quick rundown of the state of things: This patch has the Rebirth fix in it for 360 but not for PS3 - the Rebirth fix will be coming to PS3 in the next patch. The PC patch is still being finalized and won't be out on August 3rd - when it clears testing, I'll give you guys another update and another set of patch notes.

We will have another round of patching, and I don't have a full list of what will be in that patch but, as always, when it's closer to finalized, I'll be updating you too.

    Thanks.

    This is refreshing!

I knew that all hope was not lost. It got a little scary there for a while, but it's good to know the team still cares about the community.

    Thanks for keeping us updated.

Liz, just wanted to say a quick thanks for taking the concerns posted here to the devs, and letting us all know that they are being investigated.

I hope we haven't added too much stress to your week

My sentiments exactly. Apparently people here aren't too keen on the motto: Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

How long again did we have to wait for the last patch? Was what we downloaded on May 11th even THE patch? I still haven't heard a clear answer on that.

Thanks Liz. Today I got the Aqua Incognita achievment, and I must say, the maps are great. I would love to play them more.

EDIT: and while you and Althea or on the topic, I may be the only one, but I haven't froze once since (which was my only problem I was experiencing before the patch), and I have heard some of my friends that say that they haven't been experiencing as much lag. I'm not trying to suck up or anything, I'm just trying to tell you my experiences.

I'm sorry if you missed the clear answer to that: Yes. Yes it was. There's a post about it on the Cult of Rapture so you can see what's in it, too.

Thank you for clearing that up because I know there was definitely some confusion among us as to whether if was just a patch to accomodate for the DLC or whether it was THE patch of lore .

I can't help but be skeptical

This is certainly a big u-turn, anyway. I hope everything will be fixed by the time I'm back on Live I miss the MP!

Think of yourself as lucky that you actually could read what people had to say about the DLC before buying it.

I have very minor lag issues, but only seldom does it occur.

The thing I really noticed is since the patch - no version of the game has frozen on me.

I think we all experience frustration with 2K on any number of issues, but 2K is faceless when we're griping about the various problems, and nothing can be blamed on any particular person. When Liz does come by and try to help, we have to give her the respect of separating the frustration with 2K and with the game from the person who is trying to help us, whether or not we think she should be more active in communicating with us or more forthcoming with some types of information.

Liz seems to be infinitely patient and always willing to try and help, despite occasional missed PMs or ways we think or wish she should do things differently, and that's a lot to ask of anyone in a forum consisting of the most passionate, most vocal and most demanding of fans.

Liz can't go sit down with the programmers and show them how to fix everything. Liz can't go to Microsoft or Sony and tell their testing teams to hurry up and approve things before they get released. Liz can't tell the team in charge of patches what their update timeline or strategy needs to be. What Liz can and does do is read what we post here and then bring that information back to those who need to hear it.

    That's how I see it.

    Talking

Well although I am a little doubtful of seeing any solutions in the near future I'm glad at least 2k can answer questions, which is more than I can say for other game communities.

Thanks for the update Liz, I salute you!

Relight, although I think it very chivalrous of you to be defending Liz so vigorously, I think she would be the first to tell you, she's a big girl and can handle herself just fine

And besides, Zoobi and I didn't even mention Liz in our posts. Our comments were entirely directed at 2K's lousy track record of providing fixes in a timely manner. That's all.

    Can I call you Liz?

Well Liz, I've been very upset because of the DLC issues. I began thinking that it would turn out fine, but that quickly soured.

I thank you for adressing our complaints, and finally agreeing to work with us on this issue

so if they fix the leaderboard issue, would the people that had already rebirthed get their former ADAM count back or are we getting the shaft?

    Hmm now i'm confused Liz.
The post on the cult which listed what the Patch would fix didn't match what we downloaded on May 11th.Just for example, the Lag issue, seemed to be made worse for some, including myself. Is it possible that many of us received broken patches or does the connection issue lie with the Host of the room?

The host. 2K cannot do anything about someone playing the game with **** ass internet and getting host. : /

Ha! I have to admitt that I laughed pretty hard at that.

Although, from what I've gathered, Liz does care about the bioshock community on a personal level. She does seem to go out of her way for us alot. That being said, this is probably a panic order to try and calm us down. Liz reports to boss that the forums are in complete flames over the dlc, boss tells Liz to tell us to wait patiently and that they're "working on it". Judging from 2k's most recent track record, Liz will not provide community with adequate information for a very very very very long time.

Community members, cogitate on this. It took 2k THREE GODDAMN MOTHA****INGG MONTHS TO PROVIDE US WITH A PATCH that took .5 seconds to download and did VIRTUALLY NOTHING. In fact, it caused even more problems for many people. Even worse, the patch didn't even address all the key issues, vending machines anyone? Your telling me that after three months of supposedly "working around the clock" on a patch you guys couldn't manage to figure that one out? Can you imagine how long it will take them to sort out this mess?

Give everything back to 2k boston/Irrational studios. We'd like to do business with the professionals again please. Just going back and watching some JT/ 2k Marin interviews you can see just how big of a rookie studio they gave this thing to. They where basically just hoping to put out a game that would be accepted, their goal seemed to be to make a game that was just good enough that it wouldn't be slammed versus making a game that would be considered exceptional. Go watch Jordan's responses to some of the praise the game gets and you'll see that he's totally dumbstruck like "wow, you mean you think it's good? You think that we made a good game? Whoah! I can't believe it!" (last sentence is an dramatized for better effect).

I'd like to be able to expect excellence again (with regards to technical issues. You know, be confident that the thing will actually WORK) when I pay for Bioshock products. It seems to me that 2k Marin and whoever is currently working on the dlcs and patches for Bioshock 2 are incapable of reaching even minimal big publisher industry standards of providing for their customers in this regard.

2k should be ashamed and embarrassed. To even consider themselves to be industry leaders is sad judging from their Bioshock 2 history, this is behavior that we expect from a low end publisher, not from a name like 2k.

I appreciate the reply from Elizabeth; can't speak for everybody, but i'm not one to yell about balance issues, player conduct, or any of that. But this DLC issue was different; it was so clearly broken, in an obvious and ridiculous way, and the first official word about it was "yes, we did that on purpose."

Anyway, when the devs look at some stats and realize how often the new $$$ maps are coming up (read: basically never), there will be no debate. I'm sure they'll fix it, I'm just hoping it's top priority.
