Will System Link be supported for Xbox 360?

    2K devs,

All the videos I've seen which show actual gameplay look spectacular. I'm very much looking forward to this game's release. The main reason I signed up to the forums today was to ask you about System Link. I was just wondering if your game would be supporting it for the Xbox 360?

Although it may appear that LAN parties are a dying breed I can assure you they are still very active around these parts. I know that you supported LAN play with Borderlands (I'm not sure about Bioshock 2) and I hope that you are/will consider supporting it for Spec Ops as well.

My family and I live out in the country and, believe it or not, high speed Internet is not available here. We currently have five systems LAN'd throughout our house and we play nearly every LAN multiplayer/co-op game that hits the market. We were Gears of War fanatics, but eventually its shortcomings were just too much for all of us.

Spec Ops: The Line appears to be the multiplayer game we've been waiting for.

Thanks in advance... just in case you do end up answering this post.

    Sincerely,

    Keeshondown

Edit: Thanks for adding the System Link option for the offline community. We've been playing it for about a week. It has some of the best third person hit detection we've seen in an offline versus multiplayer (head shots are always a single round to the head... oh, yeah!). The only complaint it that there's no way to earn XP in offline games... so no way to unlock new weapons, armor, etc.. If you are still supporting this game, please offer this as an option through a future patch (perhaps when you release the co-op add-on). Thanks again.

Well 2K Greg (not sure about the spelling) does answer sometimes so keep your hopes up. LAN is all but dead, I go to LAN parties from time to time and they are still often being organised.

Just one thing, Borderlands may have the 2K label, the devs aren't 2K employees. So if you want to compare, it's better to do so with Bioshock 2. Unfortunately, I don't know whether BS2 has LAN option or not.

    Dinge,

Thanks for the advice. I've sent a PM to 2K GregK this morning. Hopefully we'll get a confirmation for LAN support.

That is my thinking as well, I love LAN and system link, just something about having everyone in the same room with no lag, it makes it an event. It does seem most publishers including 2k are quickly ousting the LAN/System Link option. It is a shame.

    2K devs,

It's been quite a while since I first posted the question (almost 2 years!) regarding LAN (System Link) for the Xbox 360. Now that the game is releasing shortly would you mind answering it? My family and I are all looking forward to your response. Thanks

    2K forum manager,

Today I noticed that the Spec Ops: the Line tab on the Xbox Marketplace has System Link: 1 noted under the Overview/Features. Does this mean that the full multiplayer game mode will support the System Link feature with only one person per console/monitor, or is this a typo?

If System Link is supported, how many Xbox systems are allowed to play within the LAN?

Would you kindly clarify this for me.

I was really happy to notice that Ghost Recon: FS has LAN (on PS3, probably on Xbox as well?) Anyways, in this game it would make even more sense since it's 4v4. I hope it's there!

    GimbleFIN,

We have been playing GR:FS LAN for the past few weeks. It is good fun, but is does have some serious issues:

    1. if someone is on cover and you melee attack them, you fall through the floor.

    2. the melee attack animation occurs at ridiculously far distances.

    3. the Bodark and the Ghosts have completely disproportionally distributed weapons. The Ghosts' weapons are far better.

Thankfully we only play LAN, so everyone agrees not to use the melee and proximity grenades, and the weapons are set so that the stats between the Bodark and the Ghosts align pretty well. I would hate to see how this game plays online. I can only imagine that it would be all spawn-trapping, glitching, grenade launching, "DETECTED" type of gameplay.

Here's hoping Spec Ops the Line has LAN. It looks like there is more freedom to move on the open maps. GR:FS maps are very small and narrow, corridor-centric like Gears of War.

To anyone interested in System Link. Yes, it is an option for the Xbox player... and it plays nearly flawless (i.e. your shots always count).
