Mouse pointer visible in menu, but not moving

Hi, everyone. I recently downloaded Bioshock on Steam, but I'm not able to play because once I get to the main menu, I CAN see the cursor but not move it. At all.

Tried everything I could come up with: updating drivers, closing processes, running in windowed mode, changing mouse acceleration parameters, etc., to no avail.

I think this is not the typical "graphics card too old" problem, since I CAN see the mouse pointer but NOT move it or select anything, which is the opposite of what most people get. My system specs:

Pentium 4 3.4GHz
1 GB RAM
Dual GeForce 7800GTX on SLI
Audigy 2 ZS
Dual boot WinXP/Debian

I have found a couple of posts speaking of similar problems, but none have been answered so far. I hope I have better luck Any help you can give me is appreciated.

I can see it occasionally for a split second but most of the time the mouse pointer isn't visible. I can guess where the menu options are sometimes, but it's frieken painful.

As it is I cannot play the most anticipated game of the year, and that vexes me.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had exactly the same problem with CIV IV and never ended up playing it because I never solved it. Now I'm playing on a DIFFERENT COMPUTER and with a different version of the game and I get the same damn problem.

I'm using an HP laptop with 4GB of ram a decent video card (either 256 or 512MB I can't remember) and running Vista.

i just got that problem but did a system check on the game found 15 missing file so once that downloaded again ill try and let ya know lol
