    Gil Alexander's Face

I posted this in one of my past threads, but I decided to make a new one just for this topic. What is your reaction to this video. As I said before, this video may be disturbing to some viewers.

    Introducing Gil Alexander's Face!!!

Just another reason why I thought killing Gil was a morally good thing to do.

During the LS sequence in outer persephone, what the heck is it with Gil's statue?

This has been brought up a bunch of times before.

    Should be in In-Game forum.

But yes, I agree, he's ugly and deformed and somehow hideously large!

Poor guy, I kinda liked him when he was sane.

I figured it was humane to put him out of his misery, whether he pleads for me to let him live, or not.

Gil has no mouth, from what I can tell by looking at the picture anyway, so how did he eat the flowers?

It's symbolic. If you killed him it shows you slaying a monster. If you saved him it shows you pulling a man from the monster, in other words despite everything you saw the man behind the monster.
At least that how I interpreted it.

anyway back on topic: he looks awsome in the concept art but not so much in the game.

I really wish they actually showed us this in an actual playthrough rather than only via ghosting or looking at game files.

It's like they went to all that effort for basically nothing, and sacrificed what could have been a really engaging visual by turning it away and hiding the entire thing.

When I was playing for the first time, I thought I'd come across a huge glitch and that he hadn't loaded or something. Felt like all my empathy was going toward an empty, red, glass jar.

I thought the lack of form was kind of the point, he wasn't the man he started out as or even the man he strived to be. In his view, he failed Lamb, himself, and the people of Rapture my not being able to harness all the knowledge and responcibility he was givin, and going insane under the pressure. I thought it was poetic that he lost his face by the time our characture reaches him. Symbolic of him loosing himself.

I couldn't bring it to myself to kill him, he's even funnier than Sander Cohen.

That is a really interesting question. Why did they ultimately decide to make him face away from the player? Did they think his striking resemblance to a fetus would be too much considering you can shock it to death? Why not make a different model then?

In the Artbook he looks like a cross between a fetus and a fish, and is lovingly referred to as "Fishbowl."

Who made the last minute decision to turn the figure around, or is this possibly a mistake and is supposed to be facing us? The game is MA for mature audiences, so it's not like it was turned around to get a better rating. So what's the deal 2K?

In the bik movie files, "GilAlexander_TurretTV", you can see something resembling a fish creature. Why'd they change it to generic eyes?

Well remeber when he said the light hurts his eyes. Maybe he was facing the other way to avoid the light. With all that ADAM injected into his body, he didn't really need to look at delta. He can just use his abilities to see anywhere he wants too. Like remeber when you turn the lights on for the first time and he swims down into the tank, then he says "I see you out there Delta!" So thats proof already that he doesn't just need his physical eyes to see things.

That still doesn't really explain why they took a perfectly good model and turned it around. There is a moment where Gil actually flashes and a message says something like "Whatever you saw, is no longer me."

You have to be looking at the tank because he only flashes for a brief moment. I'm starting to think that turning him around was a mistake because the only time you would even be able to see him is at that moment, and a little bit when getting shocked. This temporary flash of his image seems like they had planned a scary moment, but instead all we see is the back of his head. When Gil says "Whatever you saw in there..." it has zero impact because you don't really see anything.

If it had to do with story then why not have him face you, and then you see him turning away from the light? They intentionally made it physically impossible to even get on the other side of the tank. Which may suggest some last minute decision that Gil was too horrid or something.

Maybe they figured it would make an interesting Easter Egg for those curious enough to break the game?

Flashes? Don't you mean when you turn the lights on and look at the tank he swims down and screams in agony because, again, THE LIGHT HURTS HIS EYES? And then the recording of past Gil says "Whatever you might have seen in the tank, that was indeed. . . me!" He still faces the other way when you turn the lights on. . . maybe when recording those past audio diaries, he knew that when someone came to kill him the lights would hurt his eyes so he purposley turned himself around before Delta came so as to not cause damage to his eyes... Thats what i'd do.

I was extremely disappointed by this section. I read a magazine review which said 'We won't spoil it for you but there is a twist that rivals Bioshock 1 with a certain Mr Alexander...'

I was so psyched. I turned those lights on, my buttocks clenched and I was met with... A red smear with it's back to me.

Oh my God! That's the twist! The magazine lied!

They meant twist because if I recall, I have never seen one person in the city of Rapture that has been transformed into a giant, OMGWTF is that!?!, Monster. . . have you?
