Any chance of System Shock 2 hitting XBLA?
Any chance of System Shock 2 hitting XBLA?
I can't imagine there would be... it would likely be way, WAY too large for the XBLA game
I would love to see a remake, though! (New graphics, maybe the Bioshock engine, if it doesn't change the atmosphere too much)
A bunch of guys were making an intense Doom 3 mod that turned Doom 3 into System Shock 2. 2K shut them down.![]()
What takes most space in SS2 is the sounds and music, and those are uncompressed wav files. By compressing those into ogg/mp3 or whatever, the game should take a lot less space.
That said, I think the chances of this happening is extremly small. The Dark Engine got plenty of "faults" would make it a nightmare to port over to Xbox, and that if EA still have the source somewhere. And I don't think EA is eager to do something like this. Instead they seem to aim for butchering their brannds like the newly released Wing Commander for XBLA.
2k didn't. They just asked the project to change their name. That was all. The true reason why the project shut down is that the leaders lost their interest in the project.

Since the page is not available anylonger you need to use an webarchive.
Isn't System Shock 2 stuck in Intellectual Property Limbo, the company doesn't exist, but the people do, the publishers wont release their side of the right....etc etc...lol I dont know the ins and outs, as is evidenced here. Would love it to hit XBLA, as it would be an indication that the whole thing has been resolved and allow poor folks like me who cannot play it because it's lost in time, access to an affordable copy.(Ebay prices are ridiculous)
Or to deny 2K the rights to make another SS game.
I'd definitely buy it if it were to be released. But, wouldn't it be EA who'd be making a fortune?
System Shock? What's that? I have heard of it before, but I don't know if it is related or somewhat like BioShock. Yah?![]()
Why not buy the PC version off the internet? EA will be wasting their time porting an old game to the Xbox. And if it is ported it will probably not include cooperative play or multiple player deathmatch.
I wish it did, I never got to play the original version.
Yea there all awesome, I hope 2k gets the rights of Ss again since EA for some reason hits me as evil. I have a gut feeling there going to try and make a Ss3 and screw everything up by making it into say...a hockey game or something.
Look at you hacker, p-p-p-pathetic sack of meat and bone, panting and sweating as you run through my corridors. How do you think you can challenge a perfect, immortal machine....TO THE BEST HOCKEY GAME EVER!
COMMING SOON FROM EA, NHL SHOCK!!!1!!1
OMGZ, MUST BUY. IT'LL GO GREAT WITH MY SHODAN PLUSH!!!!1!11
EA for the most part has all the rights to System Shock 2.
EA hired Ken and crew at IG to do System Shock 2.
With IG, now 2K Boston under 2K's ownership, I doubt you'll see EA hire it's competition to do a re make of any of the Shock series or System Shock 3. Even before IG was bought out by 2K, EA wasn't interested in a follow up to System Shock 2 as it wasn't a money maker.
Heres where you can find plenty of info regarding the Shock series.

system shock 2 was a LOT like bioshock.
I would just like them to reissue ss2 so I could buy it, but make it where it is fully compatible with vista. I dont care if they remake it or not. or bundle it with bioshock like they did with the original dooms and doom 3.

Well firstly, your aksing the wrong publisher. System Shock 2 is owned by EA, not 2K.
I sort of doubt it
EA doesnt own the full rights to system shock. From what ive read around, they own some rights to system shock 2, like publication and distribution rights, but they dont own the property rights, or something like that. System Shock 1 is off limits to them. The company that made it, Origin Systems, didnt transfer all the rights to that game before folding. So yes, it is in a legal limbo.
