    Cameos

Assuming a more narrative driven game than previous X-Coms.

It would be an interesting idea to include historical personalities into the game. e.g. having to cope with the demands of J. Edgar Hoover, whilst adhering to the code of Fidelity, Bravery, and Integrity. Having an oportunity to hire a famous scientist like Richard Feinman. Rescuing a celebrity like Marilyn Monroe (even though she died in'62 OOOH mysterious!)

Any other famous personalities worth fitting in?

I like the idea that you have. Somehow including starlets like Marilyn comes off as a campy idea to me, probably because she is so over-used as an icon of the times. She was beautiful and an important woman of Hollywood, don't get me wrong, but she has become like a logo or a word-mark... her image is just overused and it rarely if ever encompasses her talent or personality.

However the general idea of cameos from real life people... I like that quite a bit.

I'll be honest, I don't think it's a good idea. It makes the game sillier than it is ("Marilyn Monroe has been abducted by aliens, are you a bad enough X-Com agent to rescue Marilyn Monroe?"), and I just can't see the purpose behind it. It's an alternate 1950s/60s where aliens are attacking. Adding celebrity cameos, even timeperiod compliant ones, just brings undue focus upon said cameos rather than the game's narrative itself. It's an unnecessary distraction... And I just don't see why it should be included except for people to say "lol it's the 1950s."

I think it depends on how you integrate them in the game. If they are the main focus: You are right. But they could be used for small parts of the game. But it's true, if you do it wrong you'll end up with "Men in Black" and that's the wrong kind of athmosphere for XCOM.

I would prefer to keep any cameos in the background achievement events, or as bonuses (Feinman as a researcher etc). The focus should be on defeating the aliens, not on running errands and other sidequests, or dealing with drama.
