The Pheromones

In Bioshock 1 we all know that the Splicers were all controlled by pheromones that were mixed in with all the plasmids and tonics during the Civil War. What I'm asking though is how does he manipulate those pheromones in the splicers to do his bidding?

pheromones weren't mixed into the plasmids. pheromones are in the air and are used to get them to do ryan's bidding. i don't think it's ever stated what goes into the plasmids that allow mind control through pheromones. you should read about what they(pheromones) are, that'll make it pretty obvious.

I thought it was Fontaine that threw in the monkey wrench of the plasmids and the addiction scrambled so many peoples brains that Rapture fell into chaos that Fontaine tried to gain power as Altlas.

It also sounded like much of the 'control' came from controlling access to Adam.

My impression of the pheromone system is:

• they are distributed by the ventilation system, over which Ryan had control;
• they are not specific, they just communicate simple things like "come here", "leave here", and "become aggressive".

With those 3 commands, you can do a lot for defense.

As to your question; I believe he manipulated people to do his bidding by driving them crazy with these pheromones. Kinda like being hypnotized into doing what he wanted.
