Thread: Voice casting.

  1. I'm going to wait until after ship to confirm or deny some stuff here as I want you guys to think of the characters, not the actors when you play the game.

    Yes!
I hate it when I know exactly who is talking, ruins the character for me sometimes.

Looks like we have to sit through the credits people.

A Ken quote is always Godly.

So it looks like we'll get an official confirmation from Ken after release. But until then, let the blasphemous speculation continue! XP

I'm pretty sure now I recognise a few of the voices,if Ken wants to confirm anything, other than the voice actors...a date for the elusive demo would be most welcome!

I think the great thing about voice actors is that they are so good that you forget who is playing them and they simply become a character. I know Michael Bell does the voice of Raziel in Soul Reaver, but when I hear Raziel speak in the game I'm thinking, "That's Raziel talking." Not Michael Bell.

The transformation is really rather incredible.

He will be in Jericho. A nice CM revealed the info.

And I have to say I've never had a problem with knowing the actor's name when I'm playing a game. Only if he/she does a bad job. But otherwise he is not "the" actor, he is the character.

Maybe Ken could reveal the info in the "In-Game Discussion" topic where spoilers can be posted.

Good point, thanks! While I know some people may not agree, I think the voice acting in System Shock 2 was excellent overall, and I never once managed to match up two characters who shared the same voice actor.

Well Armin Shimerman played Dr. Nefarious in "Ratchet & Clank 3," and Ken Levine has stated that there is some R&C inspiration in Bioshock so it may be a strong possibility, I'm all for it.

Sorry if this is seen as resurrecting, but I was watching the 7-minute b-roll clip, and I'm pretty sure one of the nurses is Susan Blakeslee.

Of course, I can't be certain, but I will say if they aren't they sound remarkably like her.

Well its been said, by ken himself, that all of the voice castings will be announced when the game is released, so on the 21st go to wikipedia or i guess you can just complete the game and watch the credits. Obviously wikipedia is much faster but playing bioshock is more enjoyable.

Who is talking in the first segment of the B-roll clip, the whole "sweat of your brow" thing - is that Andrew Ryan, or his assistant? It doesn't sound like the other clip which I'm fairly sure is Andrew Ryan. I'm almost positive the voice actor in the B-Roll is Armin Shimerman but I'm not sure what character is speaking!

I adore Juliet Landau. I actually had the privilege of meeting her at a convention last October, and she's one of the nicest people I ever met.

Well, the game has been shipped; I love every minute of it. I'm so involved with the game that I'm having a bit of a conscious crisis on some levels.

Now.. Can you tell us who plays who?? Please...???

I'm 90% certain that the voice actor for Sander Cohen is Jeffrey Combs. Y'know, the guy who played all those Star Trek characters - Weyoun in DS9, Shran the Andorian in Enterprise.

No one does soothing evil better. =)

Quite frankly.. I don't care what voice actors play which role in bioshock.. Cohen will always be cohen.. Ryan will always be ryan and atlas will always be atlas. It doesnt matter what they have done before for me. Bioshock really has great voice acting and script. One of the best in a video game to date.

  22. Indeed, Armin (a really sweet guy and an amazing actor) is Ryan and Juliet Landau, who played Drusilla on Buffy is the Little Sister. When Juliet did the "Mr. Bubbles, please get up" bits, it was almost unbearable to listen to. She really commits.

Both of which starred in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" the TV show. I don't know how accurate this little report was, but one name (I believe this is who it is, my memory isn't the greatest) was Armin Shimerman who played in both Buffy as Principle Snyder and Deep Space Nine as Quark. The article didn't indicate which character in BioShock he voices, though some have hinted at Andrew Ryan himself.

There was another female actress in Buffy, but I couldn't remember her name or which character she played.

I've looked over the internet to confirm this, but found nothing. Maybe someone here still has that magazine in question (it would have come out in July) where it is listed on the first page of the BioShock article, under the picture.

Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Unfortunately Glenn Quinn from Angel died back in 2003, so I doubt it is him.

You do realize Glenn Quinn passed away years ago right?

Its part of the reason the Joss-verse fandom always looks at that "If you need a hero..." speech from his final episode. He died relatively soon after that episode, and leaving the show.

    Voice of Atlas

Maybe everybody already knows this by now but I only got the demo yesterday. I guess that the voice of Atlas is Nick Jameson. He has done quite a bit of voice work but I would say that most gamers know this particular voice because it is the same as the voice Emon on X-Wing Alliance. In that game, Emon is the older brother of the player and is never seen face to face and he helps you out in the beginning with tutorial missions, just like Atlas.

This is just my guess but I think I'm right.

I'm fairly sure Atlas is voice uncredited by Aidan Gillen from 'The Wire'. He uses a flat Dublin accent from the 1950's. Like the way he pronounces 'artist' as 'arrrtist' is a very 1950's Irish way of pronouncing it. Shows you how much thought went into the role, seeing as this is when the game is set.

For anyone wondering, Gillen is from Dublin.

sorry, i know this is an old thread, but i'm interested in finding out who Atlas was. I don't know Aidan Gillen's voice at all, but who knows? It's definitely not Glenn Quinn since he died of heroin overdose in early december of '02. There's a special credit scene for him in an episode of angel fromt he fist season i think. Anyways - now people are saying its this Nick Jameson guy. Where was this info found? i can't find it anywhere.

    In the game manual...

I'm not sure, but I saw a list of voice actors. I'll go check.

The manual just has a list of the voice actors. There's no mention of who's who. You get more of that from the IMDB page. I wonder if the same person did Atlas and Fontaine's voice? If not, how was the transition between them done in ryan's office?

I'm pretty sure that Atlas/Fontaine (funny thing is that my brother's godmother family name is Fontaine) is voiced by Greg Baldwin (he took over the role of Uncle Iroh in Avatar after Mako's death). And I'm sure these two are voiced by the same person. Fontaine's yells sounds almost identical to Atlas (minus the accent).

On the IMDB forums, one said that Peter Francis James voiced Dr. Steinman (said that he remembered his voice from an audiobook). Can't be sure of that since I never saw any of his previous work.

I remember seeing somewhere on this forum that Susan Blakeslee (her role that I remember most is Maleficent in Kingdom Hearts) voiced Julie Langford and the Lady Smith splicers. I'm pretty sure it's true for Lady Smith because the oracle in God of War (also voiced by Blakeslee) sound exactly like her.

Some other said that Joshua Gomez (Baralai in Final Fantasy X-2, Parker in the new Turok game) voiced Johnny. I'm pretty sure he also voiced Kyle Fitzpatrick, but I can't be sure.

    Any other ideas?

i was wondering who did Atlas too...he did a great job with the voice acting nice accent

also if it was the same person who did both Atlas and Fontaine he is very talented to completely change his voice like that losing the accent

i loved the voice acting by everyone in the game, was very well done and just makes the game even more enjoyable
