(Finished) The Rapture Character Cameo Contest

Here's where you can submit the best ones you've seen and made, as well as request their pictures to be made into audio diary portraits.

Let me see some of your guys' attempts, share your work and your methods! I tried to get as many elements in mine as possible, such as frontward lighting and the lighthouse stamp, but it wasn't terribly easy using an existing and unintended image of mine. I'm sure others have found better ways of doing this ^_^

I'm also welcoming the actual content of an audio diary, in written form (Thanks to AspirationRealized for bringing it up). You may post your diary content, as well as location, character name, and the image to go along with it if you please.

And if anyone likes the portrait I did, post a request and I'd be glad to try my hand at your pictures!

I'd only ask that the image I'm provided with be at least mostly cropped to the head and shoulder region. I'm not gonna turn a picture of you from your entire class photo into an audio diary

I was thinking to mention that as I was writing up the OP, but I didn't remember after finding the McClintock picture. Let me edit it in, and thanks for the reminder

And just to let you know now, yes, an Audio Diary would be welcomed as well. But try and match it to a picture, yes?

Oh wow, I really appreciate the mention. At the Bioshock RP I've been running, our members have been creating original audio diary messages and posting it in their character's profiles. I figured the concept would be a hit here as well XD

Lol nice, but I personally think that using real photos actually detracts from the accuracy, since the ones from BioShock are somewhat more cartoonish. But good job on the work nonetheless. But never feed the obese monster that is live-action anime.

EDIT: Sinclair Saucer, I'll reply to your diaries once I've read them all, since I'm currently just posting between deaths on Multiplayer

You used the perfect blend of slang and off-hand metaphors to make the dialogue appealing and not foreign

The content all just makes me shed a tear for Sinclair, since it seems like everyone (in one way or another) outright hated him. Don't they know not to hate the player?

I like that you put a little more background to their shared work on the Vita-Chamber. I also like how you put a lot of emphasis on money in the other diaries- it helped to point out how financial corrupt a lot of Rapture was, as well as how greedy some citizens were. My favorite is probably McDonagh's, not only because I love his character, but because you did the dialogue just perfectly, and made a believable situation in how an employee of Ryan would have reacted to Sinclair.

Did you model your picture after the BioShock 2 ones? I noticed a few subtle differences, but I'm not terribly motivated enough to look it up and check.

Thank you. I always picture there voices in my head whlst writing them. I plan to do more from other characters. Whether they'll be about Sinclair or not is a differnent matter. Probably they will.

I didn't work on it quite as hard as I did my own, but that's probably because after seeing the lack of uniformity in BioShock 2 Audio Diary portraits (something I never noticed during the game itself), I figured it wasn't as important as I thought before.

Also, curious bit that I noticed when working on that, apparently Jack had either visited or been employed at the Boston Harbor during his time topside. The little stamp on his image says something about it, anyways. It also has a date, looked like the third of September. Don't know what it means, but I thought it was interesting

Honestly, these are just too easy to do up to not oblige to silly requests

but their quality is still no where near KatMann's. Maybe hers works so good because it's got a pretty girl in it

Jack (Bad Ending)

Location: Lighthouse

Title: The Rapture Secret

Rapture's... no more then a graveyard. Now, I had my fair share of fist fights topside, but not once did I bust a guy in the head so hard with a wrench, that I was picking the brains out of my clothes. No, Rapture's got a different brand of hurtin'... That's nothing the surface ever needs to know about. But I've already got the blood on my hands, and I've seen what ADAM does, what it does to the soul. A man needs to know, that there's a time to build, and a time to destroy... Now I've got the bomb, and if mankind ever gets too nigh to the city, well... I won't leave no more of Rapture for them to worry about. (Younger Fontaine Accent)

Jack (Good Ending)

Location: Abandoned Bathysphere

Title: A Man Chooses

They told me... lies. They told me lies all my life, fed me what I wanted to hear, had me thinking I was fighting for what was right... While I was just running the motions. But the girls... They're the only real choice I've ever had. They were my one shot at being the savior, not of Rapture, but the purity that lay within it. Tennenbaum gave me the choice, monster or man, Rapture or Topside... I had a choice. I chose humanity. (Opening sequence voice/Mark Meltzer voice)

I think I finally understand the relevance of Schrodinger's Cat to BioShock. They put it in as an Easter Egg in BioShock 2, but the theoretical exercise really does apply to the first and second games. In BioShock 2, it is revealed that whatever ending the first game had, the story was able to progress in the same way. That said, in the canon, the game had neither the good or bad ending, but both. There's no way to really know because, unlike with the Schrodinger's Cat exercise, we can never open the box, unless diaries like this were found.

So until then, it remains that both endings actually happened.

I understand it I think. Your picture was a lot darker and life-like, which I think was the main difference between BioShock 1 and 2 diaries. The second game had a much darker feel to even the diaries, so I think I know what you mean ^_^

What program do you use? I have PhotoShop but GIMPShop works just as well.
