For a certain achievement, you'll need her gifts. You don't NEED them, but it's easier.

Seriously Good at This is easier due to the vita-chambers. Don't worry about dying, kill as many splicers as you can and then go back and those enemies won't come back.

Brass Balls is very hard. Save after every new area you reach, I mean room to room. Save before hacking to, as a short circuit is life threatning.

I'm stuck at Avid Inventor, I always run out of some ingredient. And I can't find the last Tonic, got 52 (kinda' classic to get stuck on the last). But every other achievement is pretty easy (Historian was hard tough). I'm not going to attempt getting the Brass Balls, I don't have the patience.

Well, I don't know if it'll help, but you can check the tonics you've got against this list:

    Tonics (Found)

    Medical Pavillion
Hacker's Delight (Eternal Flame Crematorium) - In the left room near the Camera, use the furnace to push the corpse in. The Tonic comes out.

Wrench Jockey (Kure-All) - In the room left of the RPG Turret, crouch through the vent on your left.

Security Expert (Twilight Fields) - Farthest room beside the corpse on the hospital bed.

Static Discharge (Surgery Foyer) - On the floor on the right side of the hallway.

Speedy Hacker (Painless Dental) - On the desk in the back corner.

    Neptune's Bounty
Medical Expert (Lower Wharf) - On the ground in the middle, near a pool of water.

Wrench Lurker (Lower Wharf) - On the ledge near the Gene Bank / Gatherer's Garden on your way back to Fontaine's Fisheries.

Focused Hacker (Lower Wharf) - At the entrance to Fontaine's Fisheries where you surrender your weapons, use Incinerate to melt the ice.

Shorten Alarms (McDonagh Top Floor) - In room #7 upstairs, room code 7533. After you pick up the Audio Diary #37 it will play automatically. Once it's done, a painting will fall from the wall, revealing the Tonic.

    Arcadia
Security Evasion (Lower Concourse) - On a corpse where 3 Thuggish Splicers are fighting when you revisit the area (near Waterfall Grotto).

Hacking Expert (Research Laboratories) - On the reception desk right at the entrance.

    Farmer's Market
EVE Link 2 (Farmer's Market) - Beside a corpse near the Circus of Values machine, down the stairs from the RPG Turret.

Photographer's Eye (Winery Cellar Bottom Floor) - Top left-most room, looks like a little shack.

    Fort Frolic
Alarm Expert (Fleet Hall Theatre) - Left side balcony, closest to the stage. Access it by going to the balcony beside it and jumping over.

Frozen Field (Frozen Tunnel) - Search Martin Finnegan after you kill him.

Extra Nutrition 2 (Sinclair Spirits) - In the basement of Poseiden Plaza you'll find Sinclair Spirits, the Tonic is on a crate.

Electric Flesh (Fleet Hall Theatre) - In Cohen's Projection Room. You can only access this area after completing his masterpiece.

Medical Expert 2 (Main Atrium) - In the area where you construct Cohen's Masterpiece. After you do so, don't kill him and he'll walk over to a glass case and unlock it for you, allowing you to retrieve the Tonic.

    Hephaestus
Frozen Field 2 (Central Core) - In the side room out front of Ryan's Office, on a desk.

Security Evasion 2 (Lower Heat Loss Monitoring) - On a desk, next to an Audio Diary.

Damage Research (Lower Workshops) - Go through the crawlspace of the last room, Tonic is on a desk.

Shorten Alarms 2 (Geothermal Core) - On the way to Andrew Ryan, you'll pass this near a corpse, hard to miss as you walk over it as part of the storyline.

Olympus Heights (To access this area later, go through the bulkhead door at the very North part of Apollo Heights)

Clever Inventor (Suchong's Apartment) - On a desk beside an Audio Diary in the main water-filled room.

Electric Flesh 2 (Fontaine's Apartment) - On his desk, in the same room as Lot 192.

    Apollo Square
Medical Expert 3 (Artemis Second Floor) - In the bathrooms near the middle toilet.

Focused Hacker 2 (Hestia Fourth Floor) - On a desk. Get to the Fourth Floor by going through the Fifth Floor and taking the stairs down.

    Point Prometheus
Safecracker 2 (Little Wonders) - Downstairs in the Autopsy room, near the Big Daddy Pheremone.

Damage Research 2 (Mendel Family Library) - On the desk in the middle of the room.

Alarm Expert 2 (Optimized Eugenics) - In the Live Subject Testing room, on a filing cabinet in the back corner of the room.

Hacker's Delight 3 (Failsafe Armored Escorts) - In the Candidate Induction room, on a table near the Big Daddy Helmet.

    Tonics (Gatherer's Garden)
Locations indicate the earliest each Tonic is available to purchase.
Tonics with a * beside them are also found in the world. Do not waste Adam on them.

Armored Shell (Medical Pavillion) - 20 Adam
EVE Link (Medical Pavillion) - 20 Adam
    Extra Nutrition (Neptune's Bounty) - 20 Adam
    Speedy Hacker (Neptune's Bounty) - 20 Adam *
Human Inferno (Arcadia) - 20 Adam
    Shorten Alarms (Arcadia) - 20 Adam *
Hacking Expert 2 (Fort Frolic) - 50 Adam
Frozen Field (Fort Frolic) - 20 Adam *
Wrench Lurker 2 (Olympus Heights) - 50 Adam
Speedy Hacker 2 (Olympus Heights) - 50 Adam

Thanks, Venom Wolf. Just got the last tonic (I had to photo a splicer). Now I've got 1000, and just started playing on hard without vita chambers (Brass Balls). It's hard, but enraged helps alot.

Brass Balls wasn't that hard, got it in a couple of days. It was a hard, frustrating achievement, but not that time consuming.

You, my friend, are not alone. I spent the past few days beating the game on hard with Vita Chambers OFF...I never once touched the settings during my playthrough. Just beat the game, and did not recieve "Seriously Good At This" OR "Brass Balls". I went back and checked to make sure I had the right settings on, and I did. I even beat Fontaine three times just to make sure. I still got nothing.

    Boy, talk about being robbed

There is something familiar about this but that doesn't matter. Good Job Man. I don't need this as I have every BioShock achievement. Too bad it took you two hours. It will be handy on these forums, especially for beginners.

I had to do the "Seriously Good at This" at least four times before I got the achievement. It seems everybody gets screwed on that one. I got lucky with "Brass Balls" though.

Does anyone have any suggestions on getting "Historian"? I have everything else except Historian. I didn't plan on getting them all but with one left, I want it! It seems like a very frustrating achievement. Great write up by the way. So any suggestions? Thanks a lot!

I read through to page 4 of this thread before the conversation turned into nothing but talk of bumping and stickying.

Why was an achievement screen not included in the PC release?
Why was the achievement code left in the PC release if it wasn't going to be used? (proof: the irony achievement - photo is developed, sound plays)

How can it have been "first for" xbox 360, when the xbox wasn't even named in the original press release?
    http://ir.take2games.com/ReleaseDeta...leaseID=183561
The first title to be published under the 2K Games label will be BioShock, a role-playing shooter for next-generation console systems and PC. Already anticipated by the gaming press as one of the most innovative next-generation titles, BioShock is planned for release in early 2007.
At the time of that press release, it wasn't even exclusively xbox - but it was always going to be on PC.

    well...
my friend had the same problem when he was working on it. He changed difficulty on the easiest possible and focused on only getting the "Historian" acheivment then when he got it he amed back u to hard and got the others.

so maybe try that, im working on historian right now, and am halfway thru, but im playing hard XD

Just got the the final trophy baby, survivor w/ no vita, finally got the damned platinum.

  26. #186
Brass Balls...I don't have it yet, but I do want it, and everywhere people say it is so hard to get.

I thought all you have to do is to run through the game on hard, and not using the Vita chambers? i.e. when you die and get revived in a Vita chamber, you just reload your last saved game instead of just continuing, and continue from that save. Therefore, never really using the Vita chambers to advance your progress in the game.. Am I correct in this?

This is what I am doing now, a wrench run on hard and no Vita chambers. I hope I am doing it right for the Brass Balls achievement? I have done this run in before without any problems, but this was pre-BB achievement possible.

Brass Balls is available as a achievement/trophy on both the ps3 and xbox 360 platforms. In order to have Brass Balls available to you on xbox 360 you need to download the latest patch (which'll give you the option to turn off vita-chambers). And just in case you don't know how to get the others you listed:

Historian: Find and pick up all Audio Diaries in the game
Research PhD: Complete camera research on all subjects (spider splicer, nitro, leadhead, thuggish, houdini, bouncer, rosie, security bot, turret, security camera).
Avid Inventor: Invent a total of 100 items (this is - based on my experience - supposed to mean that you need to press the invent button 100 times and successfully invent 100 items for each time you press the button). Any items.

Assuming you're playing on the 360. First you have to make sure that Brass Balls is obtainable on your system after you've downloaded the update for the game. But if you've already downloaded the update but the option to turn off Vita-Chambers disappeared then try the solution provided in this thread:

    http://forums.2kgames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39564

Without the working update, you won't be able to get Brass Balls. Even if you never use VCs once.

Did you download this update yet?
    http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/ga...545407d8/?of=3

If not, you'll need to do that first. Then you'll be able to earn Brass Balls. If you already have downloaded it, played the game on hard without using VCs, and/or the VCs option disappeared but still can't earn Brass Balls... Then you'll have to try the solution in the thread I provided in my previous post.

Check the main menu to see if there is an option to turn off vita-chambers (that option must be visible at all times in order to qualify for the Brass Balls achievement). If there isn't one, then follow the instructions in this thread to bring it back:

    http://forums.2kgames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39564

    Hope it works.

  40. Apparently for the Xbox 360 there's now a secret achievement worth 100 points, but it is not anything previously listed. Does anyone know what this is?
