My *ONLY* Beef with Bioshock 2

Ok, I've earned my Platinum trophy and finished the game 3 times using different tactics and builds.

Now, my only beef with the game is... *drum roll*

    Great White Sharks.

There are NO Great White Sharks where Rapture is located (63° 2' N, 29° 55' W). The water is just too damn cold to support them...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Gr...bution_map.png However, a Great White can be clearly seen during the loading screen, upon arrival to Rapture, and when Siren Alley floods.

Please fix this 2K in an upcoming patch!

  2. Good sir and/or madam i think it's quit obvious that adam has altered this shark and it is now able to live in such depths because of said adam, any other explanation would be poppycock. /monocle

....never noticed the shark, doubt they'll take it out though.

In all fairness, 2K have a lot more important issues to deal with than a simple background shark..

What!! I found that to be pretty wicked!
Especially that really close encounter with the one in Siren Alley!

Maybe it was a Porbeagle shark or Salmon shark or something similar .. they can live in the North Atlantic and could be confused with a small Great White.

In the list of suspension of disbelief items, I think Great White Sharks rank about 141st in the list, right after the anachronistic proximity grenades.

It's quite obvious that this Shark is Fontaine in disguise.

A great white would not (I dont think) be able to stand the hydrostatic pressure of 4 (or is it 6) miles below the Atlantic.

Wow, where did you get those depths? No matter what you read, that's so far off it's comical. Light can't penetrate anything beyond a few thousand feet...so it absolutely must be shallower than that.

We discussed this a while back. Its actually a Greenland shark or something like that, not a great white (I thought it was at first too :P). Let me find it

So you'd rather have no sea life seen in the game at all then?

... Rapture is built on an undersea VOLCANO, and the water is thus quite a deal warmer than it might otherwise have been.

It was meant to be a clever compliment to the developers. Here is someone who understood:

So maybe he was mistaken about what type of shark it is, but that really wasn't the point.

Posts like this seem to either take him literally, or get lost in other details irrelevant to what the OP was really saying.

There's still a large gap of ocean between Rapture and the coastlines.

Hey I realize you are a pretty cynical person, and that is mostly my nature as well, but you normally come off as a pretty quick cat.

So when someone says they've played through the game 3 times, and stresses that their *ONLY* complaint is the sharks... you missed the "hidden" message?!?!

    I'm just surprised.

And they escaped from the Rapture Zoo we have yet to see. The volcano warmed water keeps them close to Rapture, as they would die if they wander too far.

    /debate

Well... I suppose I transfer my cynicism to others, so when someone says they found a fault, I figured they were just trying to be uber meticulous. I can see now how it was intended to be conveyed, it just didn't strike me that way originally. It came off as being another "you guys failed at making the game realistic" thread.

its head is two wide to be a salmon shark, and it does not have paricites on its eyes and its belly is to white to be a greenland shark. also the small squid in bioshock 2 bother me, if light can reach to raptures depth, than why are the squid only bioluminicent on top rather than on bottom as to blend with the surface. but i gave up with bioshocks many flaws as far as biology goes, after all the slugs have fish eyes and a large moth that looks like it belongs on a fish.

You have no idea how beloved that shark is to certain devs. I... well, I wouldn't suggest that you hold your breath on that one. =)

no offense to the thread opener...but a patch to remove a shark just because it's impossible for a shark to be around Rapture is just silly...they would have to remove the shark from when Siren Alley floods too at that..my opinion is,who cares about a shark and what does it matter?? It's just a shark, and it's just for looks, and it has NO impact on anything...and personally I think it's cool, but yea...it's just silly to gripe about something SO small that isn't even related to gameplay

Sadly many people don't get humor when its said on the internet. I have to keep stopping myself from using sarcasm (yes I know it’s the lowest form of humor :P) because people just get confused and it turns into a mess lol
Anyway reading your thread made me lol, ty for making my day

ummm well first off u are correct light cannot penetrate to those depths.
but second, and more importantly, it is about 6 miles down they say in the first game. if it is acutally on the oceans floor than it greater then 6 miles, Fontaine says 6 miles down sometime in the first game. plus there are many forums debating the depths of Rapture. but u are correct with light not reaching that deep (however deep it really is)
