I did tell you I was on another planet!-such a shame,as only a very few development studios can equal their consistent ouput of quality games.I'll keep an open mind til I play it

Man this is truly eerie. I just stopped off today at the airport to buy my tickets to Hong Kong. A guy with a black jacket, dark sunglasses and greying hair passed by while I was waiting in line. Should've asked the clerk what the pilots name is......

Deus Ex........This game is truly a god above all others. All I can say is that the whole experience is great. This is a sublime game.

The genious of it is it's approach to level design and player choices. You are given a level, given some tools and the environment, and then you decide the style of approach. You can even mix it up: Tranquilize, sneak up and baton whip, buckshot, snipe, stealth pistol, pepper spray & prod, lure into LAM, riddle with machine gun fire, gas grenade.

Warren Specter created a narrative masterpiece that has such a complex and deep plot that I have not seen it surpassed in those regards in over 7 years. Can it be done again? I have huge reservations. Does Eidos realize the monstrous level of scrutiny they will behold once any small ounce of material from development goes on the web?

This may yet become a Duke Nukem Forever mountain of expectations. And the plot......ohhh the plot better make my holy flaps quake with every word and punctuation.

I swear to God if they [dub] mess [/dub] this up, I will make it my lifes mission to rewrite law in Canada so that I can murder them all.

Eidos Montreal huh? Like the whole game industry wants to get inhaled into Montreal lately ...hmm.
I hoped Spector would do a Source Engine based DX game with his JPS someday in the future, but there we go. I'm neither excited nor disappointed about the news atm, it really depends on the talent and desire of the team to make a new classic happen or not. Is it a dedicated team of DX enthusiasts who understand the franchise, or just another outsourced machinery that " just makes stuff to make money"?

Yeah, like I'm suppose to have omniscience about people's personal quandaries

He's only dead if you do not disarm the bomb that that plebeian mechanic spy puts on the plane. It's one of the few branching parts of the story.

Oh, this could either great or very bad news... I hope it will be at least in the middle or maybe a little bit towards the better part.

Deus Ex, one of the best games, ever! My all time favourite, brilliant game. Even better then SS 1 & 2. :P I've played it through so many times... Warren Spector is a god, no doubt about that.

Woah, I never expected you to know about my life, just chill. I rarely get worried anyway, so don't worry. I'm just being an ass.

There's only the two NPC's that you hold their fate in your hands. It's essentially meaningless anyways, one of them appears in the sequel regardless, the other doesn't matter past the first game.

Come to think of it, thats actually one thing I hope the developers of DX3 try for: A truly branching story.

The first one missed the mark by not allowing the player to choose joining the conspirators, spearheading UNATCO and becoming an agent of Majestic 12's planned future. Of course for Ion Storm that would be akin to virtually making almost two whole games, and that wasn't in their manpower portfolio. However, a studio with 40+ shouldn't balk at such a possibility.

@Raveness: I too was alittle dissapointed that you couldn't join the conspirators, as almost every other part of the game allowed for a big amount of choice.

Yes, that thing was a little bit on the negative side. But just think about it, with the short timeframe and not too high budget and not enough manpower, it wasn't really an option. It would be interesting in the new game but if they "only" make a game like the first one without this branching story, I'll be very happy.

It's not the fastest FPS, that's for sure. You really have to want to follow the story, I think, to really "get" this game ... especially since long stretches aren't even fighting but walking around talking to NPC! I like digging into a good story, so of course I loved DX because it gave me so much to dig into.

But I can understand how other people would find it too slow. The most I can suggest is to try to follow it at least to the end of the Lebedev part (the first 1/5th), and see if your opinion is the same, then you will at least get to touch on the basic crux of the game.

so wait, does it branch off from 1 or 2, cuz if it branches off from one, i would like to resume my role of ruling the world with dadleus, (though i think name changes when it combines with other AI) (Correct me if im wrong). That was by far the coolest possible ending.

Well, the original idea for DX3 that Ion Storm had before it went under was going to be a prequel set somewhere between modern day and DX1, which I think had some really cool potential, and nicely avoids the obvious problems with branching off from DX1 (how do you deal with characters you'll run into again in DXIW?) or DXIW (which just ... doesn't work, unless it's so far removed that it may as well just be a generic scifi).

But as for your specific question, we don't know yet what direction Eidos will go with it yet. Maybe they have a completely other idea that can still be cool, or a way to deal with the problems I mentioned that still leaves some continuity and a cool game. We'll see.

I can't let you get away with such a breach of DX canon, Borat

The AI at the end was Helios, a mixture of Daedalus (Neophyte cool cat) & Icarus (ED-209's socially awkward spawn)

I’m leery of a prequel idea in the context given. The backstory Ion Storm setup in Deus Ex was very smooth, left no real bumps to build a story off of. There’s nothing like in SS2 with its mention of the Battle of Boston Harbour during the Eastern states Police actions or somesuch. It was more a backstory of piecemeal social decay, and Page’s corporate and politico underworld machiavellian plans taking fruition.

Perhaps a set of missions dealing with Navarre’s adventures as an Israeli mech-commando, or the same for Gunther. Even so, I don’t see how it could come out of the shadow of foreknowledge that you would be involved in something more important in 2052, and whatever you do in a prequel is put on rails to conform as much as possible to the forthcoming material.

thanks for the correction, i am a little bummed out cuz i never got the chance to play DX2, it did not seem to be as good as DX1, so can someone tell me if it is worth to spend $5 on DX2 to experience it?

For $5 bucks why not. It doesn't hold a candle to the original, but it has its own merits. Get it on console if that is the $5 one, there's alot of consolitis features on the PC you'd be remiss to have to mod around.

so your'e saying go for it then? One more question, it it tied in with DX1 or is it a completely other story?

    For a fiver, I would.

The story follow on from the end of DX1, but then pretty much heads off in it's own direction. You do meet up with Tracer Tong and a couple of others from the original game.

BTW, here's a texture pack for IW. If fixes the overly compressed looking textures, and the fact that a number of the NPCs lool cross-eyed.
