What do you think about console-ports?

I heard a lots of people at the PC gaming board complained about the performance of Lost Planet demo. They said they're still getting poor fps even with a DX10 rig while the graphics aren't really better than the 360 version
It kinda reminded me of Deus Ex2 and RE4.

So, do you think all console-ported games suck as they're poorly optimized to waste your money on the PC?

No, I heard Jade Empire was really good on the PC and even better then the Xbox one thanks to the extra RAM, etc. However, most ports are bad due to the poor optimization by the team who's doing it, which could be due to lack of time.

    I don't think Jade-Empire is an exception.
A game once powered by an old Celeron 733MHZ and a Gforce2 level GPU machine which just being ported to PC recently.

I dont think Bioshock will suffer in the same way as lost planet, since as we know, there are two separate teams working on the respective versions.Sometimes console ports can feel a bit like an afterthought ,poor controls, laggy framerate ect .Ironically, the worst I've seen recently was RE4,a totally dire port of superb console game.

    Yeah, I hope Bioshock(PC) won't screwed-up because of multi-platform.

Btw, anyone know which is Bioshock's main-platform? PC or 360?

Like a lot of things it can be done well or it can be screwed up. I've played good ports and I've seen bad ones. I reckon Halo was a good port and I've never understood comments to the contrary. Halo plays just like any other FPS made for PC.

I think the test of a good port is when you play the game on PC if you don't know that the game was made for console and later ported to PC then it's a good port.

You have any source for that? If so, dang it!

Btw, Halo is indeed a poor port.

This question rests entirely on the shoulders of the developers doing the port. There are few excuses as to why a port cannot be golden given the time, money, manpower and respect of the platform. There are plenty of examples going both ways (failures and successes). Honestly, a poor port screams of laziness more than it does anything else, and most postmortems attest to that in one form or another.

Off the top of my head, a consolitis failure was Deus Ex: IW. A complete and rousing successful port was Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay. Middle ground was Stubbs the Zombie.

I don't really know how to feel about ports. Sometimes they are great, sometimes they suck. In completly in the middle on this one.

It depends on the quality of the port. If it's so well ported that it doesn't really show that it was originally a console game, then I'm happy just to play it, but if but if it's really really poor, then it's just disappointing.

RE4 is a prime example of an awful console port, whereas for example Riddick is really cool (although I'm not sure if Riddick specifically was a console port )

One of the earlier Rayman games was pathetic. I had to type my name using an on-screen keyboard, and there was no key remapping.
