    Battle Isle?

I'm trying to remember the first game that featured a hexagonal grid with one unit per hex. I think it was Battle Isle. Or were there others before that?

Battle Isle, if I remember well, was a great game for it's time. ...but difficult! If that style allowed challenging gameplay for Battle Isle then I expect it can do the same for CiV.

(...or maybe it just seemed difficult because I was only 12 years old).

I don't know if it was the first hex game, but I remember the name Battle Isle. I had Historyline, which was by the same developers (came out a year or two after Battle Isle I think). It was a great WW1 game, and if Battle Isle was as hard as Historyline it was probably quite hard, although I was only 12 or so back then as well

The first hexagonal game I played was Panzer General. The new battle system hinted at in Civ 5 will, it seems, be very similar to PG. Nice.
