Is it true this game can only be installed at ANY 2 points in time with your key? If so what happens if your key gets hacked and you CAN'T Uninstall the other hacked version?

Since I upgrade my computer soon -> How do I know I de-installed corretly? Do I get a "Your key was successfully given back. You can re-install whenever you like. 2 installs left" or something?
Well this is great. Kinda makes me wish I would have bought it from steam instead of a hard copy. I thought hey I remember the HL2 release on steam and it was a disaster lets avoid that again. Now I find if I screw up an uninstall or need to emergency wipe my system I can lose the ability to play the game entirely. OH but wait I get 2 times....yeah...this is ☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺....
Gersen in response the limit was not supposed to be imposed on the steam version because the protection was going to be steam itself. But now it seem that even they have the limitation and are rather pissed.
Liz since you posted in here I'm curious if 2k has any ideas that they might patch this out of the procedure or not? I mean it seems difficult but easily do-able even though most if not all PC consumers for this game had no idea. I am down to 1 install myself. My dual boot failed and I had to wipe my vista drive(which had it installed) so if I mess up I will require a new key. Again please answer Liz.
The uninstaller as in you insert the disc and uninstall it from an autorun?
I've unfortunately already uninstalled mine using windows add/remove programs.
Ah, understand. Thank you. Elizabeth said on other threat that you can get a new key if you run out of luck. just phone them up and they send you a new key. I understand that protection is needed but I find it a bit much.
I wish there was a system to protect the money I have given with the same amount of securitylocks (if bioshock shows serious flaw, then 2k lose 1 token of two. Another flaw and I have my money back. You can get the money again if you call me and give me patch that fixes the flaw, hahaha). Yes, I am joking![]()
Actually, I just tried this, and it doesn't work. Uninstalling off the DVD and from Windows is the exact same thing. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but it seems to me that there is no way to deactivate a key to get credit back.
Realy? This whole thing seems to have come out of an unicorn eating marketeers brain... Whats next? DNA samples XORed with BIOS checksum?I slowly come to the conclusion that this is only a big social study to find the limits of human patience, hahaha
I mentioned on the other thread about not even being able to get into the game on new hardware, that meets/exceeds the requirements and lamented over all the crap that PC users have to go through to actually just play a game when compared with console users.
Now there is this ...
It's always the honest guy that looses out right. What happens if 2k goes under? Or the servers are removed?
What happens if you want to play the game 10 years later?
Hate to say it, but PC gaming is no longer worth all this type of ☺☺☺☺ for me. Actually let me change that to : "I have to say it".
Problems are ranging from being unable to start the game, to multiple crashes, ridiculous widescreen implementation, and now this install crap.
That's PC gaming though right ... we used to being screwed.
DRM is BAD, Malware is BAD -- out of pure ethical reasons i would never buy this game. It's like buying cheeze but you can't eat it.
I'd say it's time for a chargeback. Software is considered a good under the Uniform Commercial Code, not a licensed work. Therefore, 2K has no legal basis for which to restrict your use of a good you purchased from them, especially after the point of purchase.
I think legal arguments are more or less useless to us as individualswe dont really have the means to call them up on it and if we did they just bury us with eulas and other crap.
your right and wrong.. yes there really nothing you as a single person can do , but no EULA is not gunna stand up in court period you AGREE to the EULA when you open the shrinkwrap, BUT yuou cant see the EULA before you open it which is called a blind acceptance cluase which wont stand up in any court room in america.
The legality of the EULA is dubious at best. Generally, in the past, courts in the US have sided against EULAs, especially ones of the clickwrap variety.
EULAs are generally what are known as an unconscionable contract. An Unconscionable Contract is a contract that is written to exploit or take advantage of one party at the expense of another. Linden Labs, makers of the MMORPG Second Life, recently had a good chunk of their EULA thrown out for that reason.
EULAs are generally used as a scare tactic rather than an actual legally binding agreement. Most people either don't know or don't bother to challenge EULAs in court and just accept them at face value.
Call your credit card company, do a chargeback.
If we let 2K get away with this other games will follow.
Can you imagine having to uninstall every game you own in order to be able to reinstall it later ? Imagine if you had 10 games that all used this system.
Its bad enough having to keep up with original cd and serials.
I don't want the added burden of how many installs I have done and on which pc's and do I have any installs left, etc.
Yes, i suggest doing the most to get the money back. This will put 2K inn a bad light with distributors and or stores. Other games will follow, and Malware is BAD BAD.
Action, NOW!
So if for some reason my HDD crashed, and I had Bioshock installed, i would only get one more install?
^ You are wrong. You can install and uninstall as many times as you want on your PC as long as you activated the key for that same PC. Its like branding a cow.
OK, I just unistalled the game and I got a "Game uninstalled successfully"
There was NO specific information that my key has been successfully withdrawn from your database.
There was NO information like "Your key now has 2 installs left again"
How hard could it have been to inform your customers. You are breeding pirates! I assume they laugh their a** of while reading this. Please stop it and support your customers better!
How can I find out the state of my key without risking to lose another install?
I will upgrade my computer tomorrow and see what happens... I am quite unhappy with this situation!![]()
