    Leader Outfits

Hi, I'm new to the forum and have played Civilization since part III. I have been waiting for the Civilization V announcement for years and am very excited.

In Civilization III when you advanced though the ages your leader would be dressed to match the particular age you were currently in. I personally liked that and would like to see it in Civilization V, does anybody else agree?

I loved that feature in Civ 3. Sad that it didn't return in 4. I hope it does here, but I do doubt it will happen.

Totally agree with the idea, but now I'm having a hard time getting out the imagery of Roosevelt in a Loincloth and covered in war paint

I don't think they should be dressed to the age. They are more of a representation rather than an actuality. Think about it this way: if they dress the age they are in - then why not age them? But of course you can't age them because they live from 4000BC to 2050AD.

So instead of half-assing the reality aspect (dressing them proper, but not considering their age), it is better to simply make them be a representation of their leadership qualities. If you are faced with Ghandi for example, he will dress like he did at the height of his leadership and influence - in white cloth.

    I hope that makes sense.

You make a good point kingdmen.

I just liked opening a diplomacy window with another leader and seeing him dressed in a fancy suit. It made him look powerful and advanced. I just thought it added alot of dept to the game.

I'm big on reality, but when you can play with one leader through all of the ages I think that throws that bit of reality out the window. That's why I think it would still be cool to see the leaders change with the ages. Maybe not an outfit, but something to show that they are more powerful and advanced than before.

I really loved the feature of this in Civilization III, I really hope they reintroduce it in Civilization V.

instead of being dressed by the age, why not dress by the overarching theme? A civ that's focusing on war more than culture (or tech, etc) will have different dress styles than a civ which is religious.

That's a good idea MadDjinn. That could even be combined with outfits that represent the ages. An agressive leader from the middle ages could be dressed in chain mail while in the modern ages he would be dressed in a commander uniform.

But, that could conflict with leader traits. And even if you have a technically advanced civlization, that doesn't mean the leader would have be a book worm himself and dressed like a scientist.

well no, but he still wouldn't be dressed in a commanders uniform, or religious garb, if science was the most important thing for the civ (in the game). The leader represents the civ, so their garb would have to emulate the prevailing socio-political drivers.

I have been thinking of the same thing. I would much prefer to see leaders dressed in an age appropriate outfit. It just seemed so odd to me playing in an ancient age and seeing leaders with fancy suits on, and likewise playing in the modern age and seeing leaders dressed in ancient garb

Maybe based off of age and government type? say a modern day communism/despotism would be a military uniform?

well then why don't we all just climb up trees and sling our feces at each other (lol)

but seriously, i really don't think there should be any changes to the style of the leaders. i don't want my memory being taken up by trivial bits. i don't think it adds to the game. then again, its just my opinion, i'd still by the bloody game regardless =)
