Alpha centauri is too separated for an expansion pack. It would be too much like colonization which was basically its own little mini game rather than an actual expansion.
I would rather see a Call to Power style orbital layer(space cities and whatnot), and a lunar campaign where there is a lot of reach back to the civilizations back on earth. IE earth civs keep sending units to the moon to fight out battles for supremacy there. And of course the lunar cities provide economic benefits back to earth and the orbital layer.
I will definitely miss Alpha Centauri. It was awesome! Planet busters and terraforming. That was amazing.
Agreed. We want our turn-based science fiction strategy!
I would buy it.
I want Alpha Centauri!! Spartans! Santiago! Power and elite troops :P
(I fact I was just playing it 10 minutes ago :P)
Bye,

Orbital colonies, space elevators, lunar settlements, terraforming other planets...
Sounds very good to me.
it would be awesome if there was a multi-map layer if this was added. Somewhere along the way you could get to the moon, or elsewhere, but then you'd have to fight over it if anyone else came to take it. Keep the earth based game going, but add that extra layer for the future portion of the game.
I too support this notion.
I like this idea.
It keeps bothering me why you can't continue and improve your technology into future techs, like in Call to Power.
It would be such a cooler game if that option would be available.
Actually I'd even like much more than that to just be in the game, and not be in some strange mod or seperate game.
The Rise to Mankind mod went halfway there, with national wonders such as the Orbital Hotel, the International Space Station, etc...
Extra wonders/projects could include the Moon Base, Mars Base, Orbital Production Facility, Space Lab, etc... easily integrated into existing mechanics...
Alpha Centauri? Well, they released a whole separate game for that (with a cool backstory and all), and I have been waiting for SMAC II since, well, 1999, really![]()
The only problem is that 2K can't make SMAC2 because EA own the rights.
Maybe this is also why we don't see any space-based Civ expansions from Firaxis - as it opens up a legal minefield. A big fat shame.
I also think this would be a very interesting idea although I doubt it would be included in Civilization 5 but instead in a future expansion pack. You could enable it as an option and it would essentially double, if not triple, the length of a standard game since you'd have the task of travelling to separate planets to colonize those as well. I'd imagine they could even have a victory condition related to finding something critical on another planet or something.
Final Frontier?![]()
Seriously though, I appreciate your point, although I don't appreciate the sad reality of the legal situation... good thing that Shakespeare didn't have lawyers to worry about, or some of the most famous creative works in history might have been squashed in the courts...![]()
