Petition: Allow (optional) registration via Steam

    Commentary:

Now I, along with damn near every other hardcore Civ fanatic, is likely to go out and buy whatever limited edition 2K pumps out (And if It's like the Civ4 edition...). The problem I have here, is that I have grown to hate disks. I hate having to carry them around. I hate having to swap them out. I just hate them.

In wandered Steam, and instantly made Digital Distribution viable. I now buy any PC game I get through Steam. I get it sooner, and I never have to worry about losing the disk (And Valve has a system in place to kill the authentication system should Steam go offline). I've found myself tempted to get the Civ4 collection on steam just so I could avoid using the CD every time I want to play.

But, Steam offers a nifty feature. The ability to register certain games with the Steam server. Buy the disk, get a copy on Steam along with it. And that's what I'm pleading here. Allow us to register (optionally) Civ5 via Steam. Hell, you're already selling the game over Steam. Take it the next step.

Hell, I personally wouldn't mind seeing it taken farther. Utilizing the Steam service as the actual network and take advantage of Steamworks. Steam Cloud to keep all my saved games, Achievements, the works. But, there's that group of people who refuse to use Steam and I can respect that.
    --------------------------
    Anyway, the actual petition.

We, the signed, petition 2K games to include the optional ability to register Civilization 5 via the Steam Network.

    Signed,
    DrFedora

Throw me into the disk hating camp too, I only purchased 1 game on a cd in a while and it was because they allowed multiple instalations, no questions asked, and I wanted to put it on my G.F. computer as well. Yeah, no DRM can be a selling point.

Either way I'll probably pick it up on STEAM, I just hope it is only steam and no extra (GFWL) stuff required.

I daresay I am as big a Civ fan as any of you, and I want no part of Steam. You all can use Steam all you want to, but don't try and force it down my throat like the folks that made the Total War series is doing.

What's wrong with steam? Yeah, I didn't like it at first either, like back in like 2002 when it was first released. But, they pretty much have it running smoothly now.

Did you even read the thread or did you just see the word "Steam" and rage?

Yeah, I'm anti digital distro(except for freeware)... I personally like the disc check DRM methods, it's simple, and essentially idiot proof. I don't wanna be connected to the internet when I play(if I don't wanna be). And most importantly, if my internet goes down or I have to cancel it for some reason, I wanna be able to play my game.

You don't need to be connected to the internet to play games on Steam, just go into offline mode.

Well like I said, I'm advocating option registration (Which I made pretty obvious), the disk based DRM would still be there, but allow those of us that want to have the StreamDRM and the ability to play without a disk to have that option.
