    [Crash] Attempting to Hack

I am one of the many users who cannot get this game to run under DX10 / Vista32 bit (system specs: 8800GTS w/320mb, Core 2 Duo E6300, 2gb ram). Installed the bleeding edge beta nvidia drivers as of today, tried all sorts of things such as setting FullScreen to false in the inis, still crashes.

I've managed to get it working (beautifully) when running "bioshock.exe -dx9".

No problems (although I'd like to get it working -correctly- with DX10 when these issues are ironed out) - except when I finally reach the part with the security camera. Upon spawning the flying robot and killing it (or any flying robot thereafter), pressing V to hack causes the game to crash. I've repeated the demo now three times (frustratingly) with no ability to save and once i get to this point I crash if trying to hack 100% of the time.

Despite the fact that DX10 isnt working, I'd really love to buy this game, but if I crash when hacking seems rather pointless..

Anyone else have suggestions or experience the same problem?

Exact same situation as me. Only, I just went into start -> games -> then right clicked on Bioshock and clicked directx9 xD. That fix was amazing, stopped my loading screen bug (game freeze before the loading screen can even finish fading in). It even let me play the game, but then I tried to hack a turret, and same thing, just frozen screen (had to close with task manager). Also cracked when I tried to acess any other in-game tools.

I'd just LOVE to see a patch here soon. Been waiting for this game for a while, apparently still got to wait xD.

Vista Home 32bit, Intel Core Duo, 2GB RAM, 8800GTS

I've done the dx10 upgrade, I have the latest nvidia beta drivers. I cannot, under any circumstances, run the game in dx10. Black screen after the bioshock logo, need to ctrl+alt+del out:

Faulting application bioshock.exe, version 1.0.0.0, time stamp 0x46b7d7a9, faulting module bioshock.exe, version 1.0.0.0, time stamp 0x46b7d7a9, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x004604ef, process id 0xf70, application start time 0x01c7e4883901e090.

Tried running as administrator, disabling UAC, uninstalling drivers, re-installing drivers, uninstalling the game, re-installing the game (Steam). Nothing works.

I can, however, run the game with -dx9 mode, to a point. And that point is hacking anything, using any vending machine, or sometimes if I look at the game in a way that it doesn't like.

I realize that it's only the 1st/2nd day of the release, but this problem isn't one that just I'm experiencing, it seems quite widespread. Almost as much as I want a solution, I want to know how this game was testing, passed, printed, and shipped out to be sold when there are such widespread, glaring problems with it experienced by so many. I'll settle for a working solution, believe me, but this just seems out of hand. The fact that these problems are so common at release is only compounded by how hyped and anticipated this game has been for such a long time now. I'm very disappointed.

I hope something concrete and resolute is done soon.

suggestion: return the game until they get it fixed (if they get it fixed)
