Is the speargun really over-powered in single player?

I mean seriously. An Alpha series takes two shots to the hit, one hit kills nearly all splicers, this is on hard even!! Also being able to recollect the ammo after use is just ridiculous. Rocket ammo is a riot to use, so much fun. But this weapon is so over-powered in almost every situation.

I don't really think overpower issues matter in singleplayer haha. It's one of my favourite guns anyways, fun to shoot splicers and watch them fly and stick to a wall.

It shoots too slowly to be overpowered.

Hint upgrades, but back on subject, what are you trying to say? You cant always recollect the spears, sometimes they break, or at least they do for me.

Yeah you only get back like 3/5 of the spears, if that, in my experience. And isn't it only one shot kill on a splicer if you get a headshot? If not I wasted a lot of time on Hard perfecting those spears to the face.

It's the most powerful weapon in the game next to the drill when fully upgraded.

I liked sinking two or more rocket spears into a brute or big daddy then watch them fly across the room while still trying to get to me.

    Then...boom they get blown up.

Two regular spears to the Alpha Serie's dome and his dead. Just thump thump, Alpha's dead. Everything else takes a few extra blasts. The spear is so precise, making it OP.

    Oh, quit your whining.

It's a pretty powerful weapon, one hit weapon. But overpowered? I wouldn't say that.

In hindsight and while playing, the game is too easy.

Always good for putting down a traitor Alpha series after the Hypnotising Wears off.

oh, who cares how powerful it is. did you whine about the bolt gun in the first bioshock, too?

i love that weapon. that combined with the chameleon tonic = best thing in the game, imo.

I only ever used the Rocket Spears on Big Sisters and the occasional difficult BD that just wouldn't go down.

Other than that, who cares? ;3 It's not like it's the chemical thrower whose electricity could take out multiple BDs and Fontaine without breaking a sweat.

    Also I always thought the Alpha Series were surprisingly.. ahm... weak xD That might just be me, seemed like they went down faster than a Brute splicer, but a bit harder than a regular one~ eue;

I'm pretty sure that Big Daddies have more health than Brutes.

And if SIX splicers are coming after you at once, you're going to get shot a lot of times before you get that second and third shot off. Let alone the fifth and sixth shots.

If you catch them by surprise, you can often one-shot Leadhead splicers with a body hit.

Still; perfecting the skills needed to plant a meter-long piece of barbed rebar through someone's face is never a waste!!

If you fully upgrade it....then it's fun. Otherwise...not so much.

Depends on how you play...( if you use it or not ) This trip I'm not...next time though I will.

But overpowered....maybe when fully upgraded...especially when your head shotting BDs with it.

That's why it has a slow reload and you don't get it until middish game and probably have other weapons you want to fully upgrade before working on the spear.

If your getting swarmed it's useless...sniping is a different story.

    So no...it's not overpowered...

OMG the drill is overpowered! you would think it would take more that three seconds of drilling through a splicer's bodily organs to kill it! this game sucks! XD

This is more or less how we ended up with the balance numbers on both the Drill and the Speargun.

At some point, you have to step back and say, how much damage SHOULD sending a pointy rusted telephone pole through a man's head do? The answer, as it turns out, is all of it. Anything short of one shot kills on little guys just felt unbelievably weak.

This is the same logic we used to end up at the Drill as well. It had to do tons of damage, but we couldn't let it work forever doing tons of damage. So it had to have fuel.

The constant struggle of verisimilitude vs game balance.
