To Jordan Thomas - Get ambitious with Bioshock 3!

Time to get out your ambitious stick Jordan. Forget how "returing to Rapture would be too ambitious"...no such thing as too ambitious. If in 2007 someone said Bioshock II should have the player playing the role of the prototype Big Daddy, and that he could roam around outside on the ocean floor, everyone would of said that is too ambitious. And just look at Bioshock 2! Other than it has a lot of bugs for PC gamers, the game is a great success! Now is not the time Mr Thomas to worry about "too ambitious". If the Beatles thought that way, they would of never made it to America. Now is the right time to attack with FULL AMBITIOUSNESS! (if that's a word )

The most ambitious thing you can do Mr Thomas is to return us to the utopian city once again...mabey 5 years later. This time...as...(everyone knows what Im going to say) a big sister. That's right, a big sister. I know the difficulties involved with the mapping, since big sister can swim. That means she could swim around Rapture, exploring around every skyscraper. And of course nobodys RAM could ever handle that large of a map. But there might be a way you can limit her swimming to a half mile? Mabey she runs out of energy after that and must stay in a specific area...I dont know.

You'll figure out something I'm sure Mr Thomas. But be ambitious!

edit: And release an SDK so we can get ambitious too!

I like where you are going with this. However I feel that Bioshock 3 should be a prequel instead of another sequel. I do believe there is an SDK because if you search the Bioshock 2 folder, there is a picture that says "Bioshock 2 Editor" with a Big Sister in the backround.

Being a big sister seems a bit too much like trying to follow in Bioshock 2's footsteps of evolving the central character, besides i don't think rapture could really last another 5 years at this point. That and being a big sister seems like it could be too difficult and weird from a first person perspective considering how agile and fast they are supposed to be, it would be something like playing as an Alien in the new AVP game but also having to keep track of weapon and plasmid powers. Neat idea, but i'm still a big fan of the prequel concept i feel like there is still almost too much potential in the fall of rapture narrative, plus i'm kind of sick of post-apocalyptic scenarios in games, i'd rather take part in the apocalypse than explore its aftermath. Especially in the case of Bioshock.

If they dont release the SDK then they are just shooting themselves in the foot. Mods are what keeps a game alive through the years!

JT never claimed it would be too ambitious. He said it would be "very risky." If you look at that statement, you can see too obvious interpretations. One would be that he feels there is a safer route for a third game. But the interpretation that I came away with was that going back to Rapture will require a skillful approach and can not be handled lightly. Hence his statement that it would be risky. Skydiving is risky, but there is no doubt that it's fun as hell when done successfully.

Right, well I read it as if a Bioshock III would not include a return to Rapture...but that would be folly. Bioshock is Rapture, and Rapture is Bioshock. The two are (at this point) inseperable in my opinion.

Swimming around outside isnt the problem (look at GTA how huge that map is and they did that how many years ago on much lower capacity hardware...) -- buildings as long as they are non interactive (few have interiors) are lightweight assets.

Other threads here discussed the Big Sister option (and return of Eleanor if we need epic/twist potential) for the more 3D maneuvers the bigsis chars would be able to do (good thing Infinite theyve done more 3rd dimensional movement so that they can perfect it for THIS game....)

And yes mod'ing capability would give the game more weight.

This is a two year old thread. I honestly don't think that it needs to be posted in, especially to advertise threads that already exist on the front page of the subforum.
