    BioShock 2 DLC Announced

New DLC announced for BioShock 2:

New York, NY - February 22, 2010 - 2K Games announced today an aggressive post-launch downloadable content plan for BioShock2 that extends and enhances the single and multiplayer experiences by adding more glimpses into the award-winning world of Rapture. Downloadable content will be made available soon beginning with the Sinclair Solutions Test Pack, available this March from the Xbox LIVE Marketplace for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and Games for Windows-LIVE for 400 Microsoft Points and from the PlayStationNetwork for $4.99. Future expansions into the world of BioShock 2 are slated to arrive over the coming months and will continue to expand on the stories of the denizens of Rapture.

"The fans who waited in the snow, rain and cold for the midnight launch of BioShock 2 have spoken and their message is that Rapture still has many fascinating stories to tell," said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. "Downloadable content is a key part of our efforts to continue to entice the fans that have made 2K a household name - we intend to deliver single and multiplayer content that respects and expands upon one of the greatest fictional worlds ever created."

Sinclair Solutions Test Pack, the first of several planned downloadable packages, contains a number of customization features that will allow players to further their character's development in BioShock 2's multiplayer modes and provide a deeper multiplayer experience. The pack includes:

    * Rank Increase to level 50 with Rank Rewards
    * New playable characters Louie McGraff and Oscar Calraca
    * 20 new trials*
    * A third weapon upgrade for each weapon
    * Five additional masks*

*Some items are only available after a player achieves a rank of 41 or higher.

In the coming months, 2K Games will also be publishing downloadable extensions of the single player experience that provide new insight into the world of Rapture. These packages will include more narrative, new tools and new challenges that extend the lore and fiction of the failed Utopia under the sea.

Oh man, I'm so excited to hear this! Looks like we are finally getting the two missing MP characters, the criminal, and the playboy. I'm also excited that they've allowed us to extend ranks up to 50.

The new weapon upgrades also interest me. I wonder what kinds of things they'll give us for the weapons....

Amazing. Can't wait. Reading that post made my day.

Not that I didn't expect DLC at some point, I just didn't expect it quite so soon.

This is the best news I've heard since the release of the game! I hope a patch fixing the bugs is released right before this. The game is on it's way to being perfected 100%. This is great!

I'm really happy to read that there is single player DLC that will expand the story!

March is just a week away too!

Is it wrong of me that I just squeaked with excitement when I read this?

First off: Multiplayer. I'm guessing those characters are the two who's "disappearance" we've been querying the last week. The customization thing is interesting too. I'm going to need to start playing multi a little more, I think, to get some of these additional masks

    Single player: Holy. Crap.

Additional story? Maybe additional "stories," to be more precise?

I need to get a bigger xbox harddrive...

Absolutely not, I did a little too.

I'm really excited to hear that they're planning on expanding Rapture beyond what we have now. The idea of following more of Tenenbaum's story seems very possible to me now. I also think we might get more of a story explanation of the Big Sisters, as they weren't explored as in depth as some people could have hoped I think

Yeah, I would love to see Tenenbaum and/or this mysterious Ava Tate. The sisters... Eh, I can accept the storyline on them, I think. They are about as in depth as the Daddy's were in the first game, so...

Oscar is definitely the playboy. His name is listed in the artbook. I am sure the other guy is the jailbird.

This is exciting news, I will definitely pick this up!

I am really pumped for the single player DLC. I can't wait to learn more.

So far it sounds like the DLC is exactly what we had hoped for. I'm hoping the single player stuff is as big as a new area, or even a side to the story. Something with Tenenbaum or Mark would be perfect.

Just don't make us retread the same areas to reach the DLC. I want to go back as another character.

Even though I would like the dlc to explore new areas, I'd like the ability to go back through the already played levels, and would like new game plus.

DLC is some serious business these days. MP gets all the attention, but 2K is smart. Single player DLC! You got my money 2K.

    I also sqeaked a lil...

Wow, that is awesome. Much better than just a map pack, this is actually something more imaginative.

I wonder how they'll handle the rank going up to 50.

They can't just base it on the numbers, because anyone who keeps playing after they reach level 40 will already have a lot more ADAM than whatever the level 40 amount is. They'll have to calculate it based on our current ADAM when we start the DLC.

I also wonder this some people might just become automatic 50s if they have enough adam already I'm assuming. Also what does this mean for multiplayer's story, are we going to get more messages from sinclair solutions, what about jack's plane crash, ryan told the splicers to deal with him . Also I hope that we don't have to beat the game all over again to play single player dlc, I hope we can just jump right into it.

Sweet! Multiplayer DLC will be good but the single player DLC will be awesome no doubt. Now 2K just need to fix the PS3 versions framerate and I'll be good to go...

I didn't see this is the other article, but, PICTURES!! http://kotaku.com/5477309/bioshock-2...ions-test-pack

I just realized that two new characters means more audio diaries. That's my favorite thing about the multiplayer.

Sounds good, but I really want something like the extras that came with the original on the PS3, where they called trials? I really enjoyed them.

Ah, thanks for the pictures. That means the criminal and the playboy are definitely the two new characters we're adding in.

I really hope the expansion for single player is along the lines of the length of some of the GTA DLC's, they were awesome and really worth the money!

Some interesting comments on Kotaku. With DLC coming out a month after the game has been released - and likely already finished when the game first came out, since we see DLC credits in the game credits - why wasn't it just included on the disc in the first place? It's definitely a marketing thing, and to continue interest in the game and especially in the multiplayer.

I wonder if companies ever consider giving out some DLC for free. I know the price is already announced, but if 2K concentrated on fixing all the bugs FIRST (a much more serious concern in MP AND SP than getting new content), and then gave out this one for free as a thank-you to everyone for putting up with all the problems the game has, just think how many people would be praising them for a job well done... and I'll bet sales of the next DLC would be through the roof.

My excitement is a bit torn on this announcement. Initially I am very excited for new content. I just finished (last night) the single player campaign and would love some more. So, the promise of more single player is fantastic. I can't wait. I also enjoy the multiplayer and reading they would add content to that also got my hopes up. However, the multiplayer content being added seems like it should be a free update. No new maps?!?! You get a some new looks (which they had finished already and held back) and 10 more levels. This is the sort of thing a multiplayer game should be adding for free to keep folks interested and playing while they make more maps and then sell those. It is... disappointing that they are charging for it. The multiplayer population is not very dense. This will not help draw players back to the multiplayer of the game. If it were free I think it might (or atleast keep some people around). Then, new maps for a fee will add to the population. This just feels like they held stuff back to charge $5 for later. We need some new maps in this DLC.

    Amen!

Counts # of maps in multiplayer... counts # of hours spent playing multiplayer...

So far I've played each map for about 3 hours!

Just to correct you on this one, it was actually included on the disc.

What you're going to download is going to be a unlock key of 22kb, just like RE5 versus mode.

    "New dlc" really, hahahahhahahahha
